I thought you guys might like to see the photos that were
taken at my good friends Enigma workshop.
He's a world renowned expert at restoring Enigma cypher machines
that were used by the Germans to encode their secret messages
during WW2. Hitler was so sure the Enigma code couldn't be broken
he never even bothered to change the code.
First the British at Bletchley Park broke the 3 rotor code and then
the USA at the old NCR plant at Dayton OH broke the 4 rotor German
Navy code.
I've been lucky enough to work with Jim restoring 2 enigmas, one
that went back to the NSC Crypto Museum next to NSA HQ in Ft Mead
Maryland, the other one the NSA gave to the Bletchley Park museum.
If you'll follow this link;

You'll see photos taken while we were working on one of the machines.
They are fascinating to work on. Think about the fact that there are
a billion billion billion possible combinations and the enigma is purely
mechanical, in it's coding, the only electrical part turns on the light
blubs of the encoded letter.
Be sure to click on the button at the top of the page to visit page 2
where you'll see photos of Jim's amazing workshop where he makes
every part of the enigma machines the interchange perfectly with
the original parts.
I'm waiting on a call from him to come over and help him with another
machine that's on it's way from the Air Force Academy that needs
repair and refurbishing, I can't wait...
