I could understand for a real long/remote journey. But keeping a mobile workshop and parts department in your car to drive 20 mins to and from work every day is a little excessive to me.

True, I just have no reason to take it out, and no place in the garage to store it if I did.

I rarely have 6 people in the pickup, and when I do, I just toss the stuff in the bed.

I agree with most of the above, and a road trip kit requires more than around town. Aside from changing a tire, you need the tools it'll take to change a hose or a belt and get you down the road, back to civilization. Can't imagine doing much more than that by the side of the road. Along with duct tape, a roll of rubber tape to quick fix a split hose is a good idea.

You never know when you are going to need tools or for what you are going to need them for. Its a pain in the *** not have a tool or be stuck somewhere for any length of time. The amount of space and weight it adds is pretty irrelevant to me because I already have the tool box on my truck and even 200 lbs of stuff isn't noticeable in my F-250.
