We sold our house 10 months ago and did a new build. Which meant new garage, wahoo. It took 7 months to build the new place and durring that time we lived with the inlaws. While doing our move all my tools and garage **** was in storage. Jeep and bug were at a friends farm, and the Caprice was in my brothers garage. I was lost for 7 months. Well we are moved in and the house and the honey do list is done. Now begins my garage build.
I am sure you can all picture a new empty garage so I wont post those pics or the ones of it full of moving ****.
The space is 19x21x12, yes 12' ceilings. That is where the major building is happening. I have SOOO much vertical storage space and I am going to use it.
First I started with some shelving. All the material for the shelves was sourced from the building of the new homes around me. You would be surprised on how much good or brand new lumber they throw away.
My major plan for storage was a loft above the garage door. My cousin is a structual engineer, and he works for the company the designs and builds the floor joists and roof truses. He helped me design this so it would fall on me or my car. This was not built out of scrap wood. But in all it only cost around $250 to build.
I have a 2x6 ledger board attached with 3"5/8 Simpson Strong Screws, this going along the sides and a 2x8 ledger on the front wall. THe beam that spans the width is a doubled 2x6 hung by 2x10 Simpson hangers. There is a center beam that is a doubled 2x6, it spans from the front wall to the cross beam. And then everything is hung with Simpson 2x6 hangers. Tonight I will be putting in a vertical support that will attach to the doubled up floor truss in the ceiling. And then to cover it all is 1/2" sheathing.
Oh an here is where my Caprice has been staying. Love this pic.
More to come has it happens. I still need to do paint, electrical, floor, lights and whatever else comes up.
