We sold our house 10 months ago and did a new build. Which meant new garage, wahoo. It took 7 months to build the new place and durring that time we lived with the inlaws. While doing our move all my tools and garage **** was in storage. Jeep and bug were at a friends farm, and the Caprice was in my brothers garage. I was lost for 7 months. Well we are moved in and the house and the honey do list is done. Now begins my garage build.

I am sure you can all picture a new empty garage so I wont post those pics or the ones of it full of moving ****.

The space is 19x21x12, yes 12' ceilings. That is where the major building is happening. I have SOOO much vertical storage space and I am going to use it.
First I started with some shelving. All the material for the shelves was sourced from the building of the new homes around me. You would be surprised on how much good or brand new lumber they throw away.

My major plan for storage was a loft above the garage door. My cousin is a structual engineer, and he works for the company the designs and builds the floor joists and roof truses. He helped me design this so it would fall on me or my car. This was not built out of scrap wood. But in all it only cost around $250 to build.

I have a 2x6 ledger board attached with 3"5/8 Simpson Strong Screws, this going along the sides and a 2x8 ledger on the front wall. THe beam that spans the width is a doubled 2x6 hung by 2x10 Simpson hangers. There is a center beam that is a doubled 2x6, it spans from the front wall to the cross beam. And then everything is hung with Simpson 2x6 hangers. Tonight I will be putting in a vertical support that will attach to the doubled up floor truss in the ceiling. And then to cover it all is 1/2" sheathing.

Oh an here is where my Caprice has been staying. Love this pic.

More to come has it happens. I still need to do paint, electrical, floor, lights and whatever else comes up.

Damn, thats a low Caprice. What's your suspension set up? Coils or bags? Looks like it JUST fits in there.

It's on bags. A 5 gallon tank with 2 Viair 444c compressors. I am going to redo the set up this winter. Hopefully will be putting in a Accuair Solenoid Valve. With the white walls on I have about 1" of ground clearance on the oil pan, I have a set of low profile tires on 15" rims and with those I have 1/4" of pan clearance.

Re: The Estrogen Escape 2

Thank you. I am trying to plan out my set up so that it looks and functions good. The last garage was a hodgepodge of shelves and cabinetry.

Nice progress so far...I love those high ceilings.

I've been looking into openers recently and I'm seriously considering the same one. I'd be interested in what you think once its installed.

So finnally started working on the garage again. I picked up some 1950-60's all metal kitchen cabinets for $60 on craigslist. I thought the guy was listing them for $50 a piece, nope 50 for all of 'em, I gave home $60 cause neither of us had change and I was more than surprised that he just wanted them out of his garage.

Started working on sanding down the cabinets to paint them Banner Red, which is the color I found to match my Craftsman tool box.

There is a tape line on the handle, can you see the difference?

My step Dad found these cabinet handles at Hobby Lobby. Right now I love the ones that match the door handles on my Caprice. But I would have to re-drill all the cabinets a weld the holes. Or I could go with the Chevy emblem pulls. Either way I have to weld up some holes.

Well long over due update. This slow moving project has picked up steam, again. I lost motivation for a long time.

So far I got most of the elecrical done, each side of the garage has it's own breaker. Still havent painted the walls but that is the plan this weekend, hopefully, if the weather stays nice. I picked up some used and nicely patina'd corrugated metal. Built some more shelving and a tire rack. Finally installed my Liftmaster jack shaft door opener. It is soooo nice, with our bedroom being above the garage, this thing is worth every penny. You can bearly hear the door opening and most of the noise comes from the wheels rolling along the track. Now on to the pics.

Electrical done and corrugated metal going in.

I was on a super budget and need to bend my coduit so here is what I came up with from the scraps laying around.

Tire rack

More shelving will continue from the tire rack to the back wall. I just need to go raid the construction dumpsters for some 2x4's.

I got the work bench/area cleaned up a little bit.
ry%3D400

And here is a shot of the under loft lighting.
ry%3D400

Also here is the wife's new project car. And by that I mean she drives it I work on it.
ry%3D400

ry%3D400

Also a few projects laying around

Had a another bug that was junk, but had a good motor. Pulled the motor and am going to do a mild build for some more HP's.
ry%3D400

ry%3D400

Also built this a few years back for my daughters.
ry%3D400

I picked this one up last week and will build another for my son.
ry%3D400

Also I am in the process of rebuilding my smoker.
Here is the old one, it worked good but the metal of the 55gal drum was too thin. Any wind and it would drop temp 10-20 degrees.
ry%3D400

New one is almost the same size. Using the smae fire box but this one is built out of an old water tank. It will also be a reverse flow smoker.
ry%3D400

ry%3D400

Those, along with my projects around the house, I have my plate full.

Here is what keeps me warm, a perfect 60*, in the winter. I am going to change the mount a little, probably bring it closer to the wall.

ry%3D400

ry%3D400

Also a few shots of the rolling work bench/ welding table. This also needs some finish work in order to be perfect.

ry%3D400

ry%3D480

A little more progress on my smoker. The lid is almost finished.
