optimizing the main cuppy product has reduce print time from 23 hours a pop to just under 8 hours while increasing flow and speed. between printer upgrades, modifiers for strength where needed and increasing profile speeds/temps

Broke the Zamak cage holding the traverse gear for the carriage on my Atlas 12x48 lathe, so I made a new one out of Taulman 910.

messages_0(9).jpeg

Now I don't have to search out a new 90 year old casting, and the polycarbonate/nylon alloy of the Taulman is about as tough as the old casting. Plus, I can keep spares on hand for when this one fails.

Tell us more about the Taulman 910!
It's cool stuff.

It's an "alloy" of nylon and polycarbonate that is harder than straight nylon, but not as brittle. It's also more dimensionally stable (it doesn't shrink or grow with age/heat like PLA or PETG).

The downside is that if you live somewhere that ambient humidity is > 5%, you've got to dry it out, as it takes up water readily (like nylon). You've also got to print it very slowly, and it takes a lot of heat to print (250°C).

Hey guys, I have a new Ender 3 S1 and on every print I get this one blemish, like a seam, on all my prints. PLA+ or ABS doesn't make a difference.

Any ideas what might be causing it?

My son got to open up his birthday present ender 3 neo max today. Not really printing flat, maybe a dip in the plate? Also didnt realize I would need a computer worth a **** to run a slicer program. Cant run it on my wifes mac book too old. His google laptop doesnt run it either. And my computer isnt gonna cut it either. Prior to printing anything i did a leveling of the bed with the program and I also used the thumbwheels to set it level with a piece of papers thickness at each corner. Not quite sure where to go from here yet. Any suggestions? My buddy who prints stuff all day suggested sending it back to Amazon. His suggestion was a bambu originally but for an 11 year old I wanted to stay within budget. Will see what tomorrow brings when we play with it.

if by Google laptop you mean a ChromeBook, then you can run Cura slicer on it.
See here for details. https://chromeready.com/4992/install-ultimaker-cura-slicer-chromebook/

Yeah, if you want to just print, an Ender of any stripe probably isn't the best. Prusa or Bamboo all day for that case.

Cura should run on most things short of a 486, though. Here are their system requirements.

The 3 Neo Max has automatic bed leveling, so just make sure it's in the preamble G-code you're feeding the machine from your slicer.

Here's the G-code I prepend to all the jobs I send to my Creality CR-10 (with ABL, direct drive, dual Z motors, solid bed mounts, and a 32-bit board)
Code:
M117 Print Starting...
M75 ; Start Print Timer and Engage Fil Sensor if USB Printing
M117 Antiblob retract...
G92 E0 ; Reset Extruder distance to 0
G1 E-2 ; Retracts filament to prevent blobs during probing
G92 E0 ; Reset Extruder distance to 0
M84 E ; Disable E Motor for probe accuracy on direct drive systems
M117 Homing All...
G28 ; home all axes
M117 Homing Z Probe...
G28 Z ; home z again
M117 Generating mesh...
G29; auto bed leveling
M117 Heaters Recovering...
G4 S10; wait for heaters to recover
M420 Z0; Z fade
M900 K0; LA

You'll still need to slice it before sending it to the printer, whether it's bambu or any other.

Running a set of these 3 train whistles

Debating running a large bucket full of them for Halloween give a ways

Screenshot_20231022_215929_OctoApp.jpg

They turned out well and sound pretty good for something with 20 cents of plastic in it and made at home. With standard speed settings, .2mm layer height and PLA can fit 18 on a Prusa bed and it's saying 10.5 hours a print so plenty of time to get a large bowl of them made and maybe use up some of the tail ends of various spools sitting on the shelf.

My X1C would probably print three times as many in the same time. Just saying, this is the perfect excuse to buy one...what a tragedy it would be if you didn't have enough train whistles for all the neighborhood kids!

More like 2.2x as many if running stock settings :)

I know because my brother sent me the link and I then asked how long it was going to take to run the set of 3...and it was roughly 2.2x as fast as the Prusa on stock settings :)! He's getting fancy with that AMS and is doing a color change for lettering on the top side. Think it was just over 5 hours on his X1C without the color change and lettering on a full bed of 18 whistles. ABS on the Voron with stock was faster than the Prusa but not X1C level...going to play with some taller layer heights and more settings on there and see how it does.

Ah, another great "take home" toy idea for the grandkids. Loading up a batch for printing this afternoon. Thanks for sharing!

Glad to help! I looked at some of the other whistles online....didn't like the volume level of some of those...was ok with them being annoying...didn't want them to be that loud and possibly harmful if small humans blew them inside. Probably still not going to send the train whistles to go home with daycare friends as I want the staff to still like us :)

First full bed off the Prusa done....tweaked speeds a bit to get the next round down to 9:40 from the 10:35 this set took.

purple whistles.png

Same 18 are on the Voron in ABS and it's at shade under 6 hours with some speed tweaks which is probably as fast as I'll try and go. That lets me run something overnight, then if I stay on top of it 2x during the day. Not sure what the target total qty is....probably in that range of 200 or so. Running before it's just older kids isn't a horrible thing

New House, New Garage, New 3D Printing Projects.

One of these Gladiator cabinets lost its foot in transportation.
25 mins on the printer and we are level again.

I'm new to the game. Bought a Bambu P1S with AMS a few weeks ago. Pricey, but i wanted plug and play. Seems the cheaper units require mods and programming, I wasn't interested in that.

Been playing around with little test prints - toys, bread clips, a citrus peeler, tire tread depth guage in two colours. All flawless prints so far.

Last week I installed Starlink and printed some wall plates and through wall grommets. Yesterday, i needed some new feet for my Costco plastic shelves.

All of these have been sourced on line, the depth of items people have already designed is amazing. My next step is to get into design but I need to source some free design software first.

Fusion 360 is free for personal use.
Tinkercad is a free web-based design program that is easy to use, but it is very different than a true CAD program. It is great for throwing simple shapes together, but lacks flexibility for complex designs.

For basic needs, the easiest thing to use is Microsoft's 3-D Builder. Truth be told, unless I need something fancy or complex that requires me to break out the CAD software, 3-D builder allows me to generate things in the space of a few minutes just by manipulating shapes (generally adding and subtracting, its *very easy*) that would take me far longer to do in CAD.

Maybe others are more advanced, but I have been using CAD software for over 20 years and find that for simple stuff, its overkill.

Would you mind sharing a link for where one can go to use the free, personal version of Fusion 360? For the life of me I couldnt find a non-subscription version of Fusion, so I have been using OnShape.

The P1P showed up last night. Unboxed it for the kid this morning while he was at school. Benchy was flawless. Should have bought this the first time around

Anyone have a good idea why I can't embed Imgur image addresses?

Extra long (6.5") doorstop as extra protection for the water main from the door as a temporary solution.

An Apple Watch band holder for the closet.

A few hooks to hang up a rear hatch cover while not in use.

Desktop Zen Garden for home office.

Imgur blocks or at least used to block GJ and any other sites that had any sort of marketplace / classified section because it goes against their terms of service. This was a reply from Imgur back in 2016.

Within our TOS, we do not allow the usage of imgur as a content delivery network on any site that has a section dedicated to selling. This is considered advertising. (much like eBay is blocked as well).
I do apologize for this inconvenience. I look forward to seeing you further within the community.

As in starting a build with ABS and then switching to ASA mid-print, or do you mean just using ASA instead of ABS?

I would suspect the bind between dissimliar materials may be an issue but they print at the same basic temp so it should at least grab.

For what it’s worth, I pretty much print almost everything I do in ASA these days. It’s decent filament for most general use stuff.

anyone printing with ASA over ABS?
I print both. ABS is cheap but the stink factor is noticeably higher. ASA is really nice for the few outdoor prints I have done because of the added UV resistance, but its typically 2X the price of ABS. At least the brands I buy (Polymaker, eSun, and Overture)

My sons latest prints. We had some issues with the generic pla we were using from Amazon, cracked in the fresh roll of bambu filament that came with the printer and let it rip. Was really impressed at how good it printed. The print quality is excellent with the bambu filament. Used a whole roll on building his enclosure. Still need to finish the hex grids for the opposite side but its looking good and he thinks its cool 20231107_181003.jpg

Knocked out the hex grids for the kid while hes at the grandparents house so we can finish his install when he gets home today. Got our order of filaments in yesterday from bambu and in anticipation of that we made some spools to hold all our new filament colors. Used creality filament to print the spools and they turned out well. Now that he has all these color choices he is asking about the AMS setup to do multi color prints. Kid better learn to rake leaves or start a side hustle if he wants that one. 20231111_092821.jpg
