Been on GJ for about 10 years now and I’m finally getting around to redoing my 3 1/2 car garage. I have a two and a half main bay and a single attached bay that’s at 90 degrees to the main bay. Basically I’m going with proslat slatwall from the bottom up to 8 feet on nearly every exposed wall with the last two feet and ceiling being painted satin white. One unique thing I’m doing with the slatwall is that I’m going with 4 feet of light grey, 2 feet of a charcoal grey, and the last two feet will be light grey. My storage is going to be the Sams Club Seville Classics Ultra HD line. Then I’ll be getting the Liftmaster jack shaft door openers so I’ll have a nice, clean ceiling. Lastly, I’ll be getting a full flake either aliphatic or polyaspartic epoxy floor but that’ll probably be a few years down the road . This is going to end up being a multi year project but I’ll get the bulk of it done in the next few months. Organizing all of my nails, screws, nut, and bolts is definitely going to take the longest amount of time. I inherited a buttload from my father in law. Here’s what I’m starting with. So far all I’ve done is got my lights in.

Lights up. 9 in the main bay and four in the single. All led’s I grabbed last year at Sams. They were on closeout for $15 a two pack. Score! I cleaned them out of every last one. They each had pull chains which I decided to remove, put in some new j boxes and hardwired the ones at the ends. I also shortened the cords as needed so there wouldn’t be a bunch extra hanging down. Once I install my jackshaft opener that one offset light will be put in the right place.

Looks like it'll be quite the workable space once you get it set up !!

I hear ya on the organization of the nails and bolts and such. I have a few (ok 12) ice cream pails fill of misc hardware that need to be gone through. Last winter I dumped one of them on the shop floor and sat down with a 6pk and had at it. Felt good to get it done until I looked at the other pails that were still full.

When you put in the new openers will you also lift the door track up as well ??

Thanks! I like it. Wish I had room to expand to a fourth bay but I don’t have the land to support it. I’ll leave the track where it is. I don’t need the extra height, I don’t plan on installing a lift.

Been out of town for work. Finally got back to do a bit of work in the garage. First row of slat wall is up! All studs marked. All boards installed. It’s not perfect but it’s pretty good. I like it!

Second wall of slatwall up. For the most part I like this product. However, the panel fit is a bit inconsistent. Some of the slats lock together very securely and others don’t. They should also recommend that you use a rubber mallet or something to make sure the new piece is firmly abutted to the previous piece so that you get a more consistent gap. The lines on the two panels are a touch off because I’m still figuring out the little nuances of working with proslat. Still pretty pleased with how it’s looking.

Got my sheet stock storage up. Made it out of Superstrut. It’s the first time I’ve ever worked with the product. I like it. It’s very simple and straightforward to put together, very intuitive. Getting to my stock is going to be a bit more difficult, but I prefer it being out of the way. I may be slow, but sooner or later this’ll all come together.

I look and read most of the threads but do not comment very often. I like the three different colors of the slat wall. I assume your painting the white after it's all installed?

The small thumbnail pics may turn some people away....larger pics make it easier to read and not have to click on each pic to enlarge it.

It’s actually just 2 colors. And yes, I’m painting the upper part and ceiling satin white.

I'm watching; and I like the slat-wall. I too have used the Uni-strut before, but would have hoped that more would have liked it... I used it to hang my NG furnace at the old house. Keep chipping away!

Finally got my first of two jackshaft door openers installed. So far I absolutely love it! Smooth, quiet, the electromagnetic lock is awesome, having an app where I can check the status is useful too! I was able to bring all the wires right behind it so it was a nice, neat, clean, installation.

I have some Proslat in my garage too. I had peg board and am really glad I switched. The hook kits are expensive though. I found some at Lowe’s that are for a different system and did a little bit of modification to them. They are about 1/4 the price!

FF: sorry I didn't see your thread before, but happy to see you are sticking with your plan of ORGANIZING your existing space.

I like the hanging unistrut and I put some together with bits and pieces and nuts and bolts that i had laying around. did you do the same or did you actually buy unistrut connections and where did you buy them?

keep at it and don't feel like the lone ranger if you post and you don't see comments for a while. another way to get more posts and views on your thread and hence maybe more help is to put a link in your sig line and also post more on other members threads so you'll get to know them and they'll see your link.

cheers!!

I got all of the unistrut from Lowe’s. I used their stuff so I wouldn’t have some mismatched odds and ends. All in it was about $100. Thanks for the tip about linking my garage in my signature!

Not to mention I bought a pack of golf lessons at Golftec. Best $ I spent on my golf game yet! My swing is finally starting to improve.

Sweet! I’ll have to go look. I have been having a bit of luck finding stuff on CL, Letgo and what not.

I like your slatwall. What made you decide on it versus some of the others like ProSlat or Rubbermaid? Following.

Okayyyyyyyy.... what made you decide to choose ProSlat brand versus the 50 other brands?

Mostly price. I was afraid that the mdf version would swell and disintegrate if it accidentally got wet, so I chose one that was solid pvc. It was the least expensive of the vinyl slatwall products. I had the Rubbermaid version at my old house and I feel it didn’t have the flexibility with single tracks as opposed to a solid wall of slatwall.

Nice start to your garage organization. Did you put any consideration into a Man cave at the new garages of Texas? I like the slatwall system your using.

Sent from my iPad using The Garage Journal mobile app

That’s the company where you buy a garage? I would love to have done that, but that’s way outside my budget. I’ve only got about 10 years or so till retirement so I’m socking away as much $ as possible.

Finally getting around to doing some more work. I’ve laboriously gone through all of my fasteners and organized them. Now all that’s left is to build the storage rack for all these boxes!

Nice storage boxes, now you just need to organize the organizers! What are you planning some sort of shelving unit? Make sure you have a spot to rest the box while retrieving the required items mine usually end up on an open drawer of my toolbox.

I’m planning on it. It’ll be about waist high and have a few extra slots for expansion. It’ll probably be built out of 3/4” ply with 1/4” for the shelves. Plus I’ll put casters on it.

Well, it’s been a really long time since I’ve done anything on the garage. I lost my great paying job and took a HUGE pay cut! FU COVID!

Anyways, enough complaining. I found a fantastic deal on these flush mount lights at $30 a piece and decided to swap out my existing lights. It’ll be a much more clean install with zero wires and j boxes showing. Plus, I think it’ll put out a much broader beam and light up the garage more evenly.
