...wondering. It looks like there are at least two other members here that are building FFR's. I was just wondering how many of us that building a FFR product.

I was going to build one, but there's basically no way to do it without putting $$ in Shelby's pocket when you buy other parts. I can live without one.

I have no idea what his aviator is, just looks like a black square for me.

Only FFR I know if is Factory 5 racing, but I didn;t know they made kit cars.

I think he means Factory Five Racing.

Here is the website http://www.factoryfive.com/index.html

A good friend just bought their supercar kit.

I don't have a single item of Shelby licensed material on my car. With what he's been doing in court lately, I've lost all my respect for him.

As far as "fake fiberglass roadster" even the ones coming out of the Las Vegas Shelby shop are 'glass. Unless you shell out BIG $$$$ for the aluminum body.

Careful, he'll probably want some royalties for using his name in this thread.

fake fiberglass roadster?

Indeed. I know a couple guys that have 'em. Only one of 'em made the mistake of trying to explain to me how "legally" it was a '65. He's a nice guy, so I didn't laugh at him too hard as I asked him to explain to me how his '65 got a 4.6l modular Ford in it.

Depending on the donor chassis, they can be decent cars.

I'm building a Cobra Replica here in OZ. I've just clocked up 10,000 hours working on it. A long time you say....I haven't noticed it at all. I've modified and rebuilt everything. My garage is a mess but my car is ugly BUT getting better.

It's on my list of purchases before I die. I have been planning on building it with my yet-to-be-born son.

What a great kid he is....

FFR prompted my garage build.

I was never into convertibles until I got my S2000. And I'm a FWD guy. After I got my S2000, I realized that if you want to have fun in a car then convertible and RWD is the way to go.

So I've been looking at FFRs for a couple of years to replace my S2000. When the economy tanked, the prices dropped significantly on completed cars. They were about $30-35k and now you see cars at $20-25k.

$20-25k is well within my reach. Last fall I found a decent one for $18k, I even told the wife to pack a bag we're going to Wisconsin this weeked to pick it up. But they generally dont come with a top and I don't have a garage. So where would I put it?

So that prompted me to finally get started on the long planned garage.

I was a big fan of Shelby. So that's one reason I look at them but the other reasons are:

225hp in a 2200# chassis means they are fast
they are the most popular Cobra kit, popular should mean easier to work with
not a Ford fan, but the 5.0 is a good common engine that should be cheap to hot rod

I've hot rodded unpopular cars before. I don't really recommend it. :) One of the best things about Hondas is how common they are. Parts and information are readily available and generally cheap.

If you want an affordable 225hp in a 2200# car generally you have to get a kit and if I'm getting a kit I want the most popular one.

I have what could be considered a mark 1 1/2, which was made before the initial trade dress lawsuit and they started calling them mark1, mark2, mark3, etc.
It has chassis improvements that where incorporated in the mark2 frame minus the updated door hinges, lower door support and backbone, which i'm going to weld in myself anyway.
FFR 2982 delivered the week of September 11 2001, I worked on it for a year before I got married. After that my wife had "other" things for me to do like remodel the house and yard.
After an 8 year hiatus, and of course stockpiling upgrades, I'm back to working on it again.

Fiberglass body yes, but a tubular ladder frame like the originals and cnc cut aluminum panels. Like other kits the body isn't a "structural element".
I can't wait to dust a viper for a fraction of the cost.

One of those pictures you saw would have been mine. I've got a FFR Mk3.1 kit that arrived almost exactly one year ago.

I'm currently just beyond this stage (no new pictures)

I've got the engine buttoned up and running and did a short drive just the other day - to the end of my driveway and then back into the garage. :bounce:
