The 2008 market crash killed my plans for a 3,264 sq. ft. garage/workshop (pdf link):
Daily driver upper 2 bay garage: 672 sq. ft.
Project vehicles lower 3 bay garage: 1,656 sq. ft.
Wood workshop as partial 2nd floor above 2 lower bays: 936 sq. ft.
3rd rear lower bay is enlarged with no 2nd story for lift. This bay extends into a paint booth.

I did finish phase 1 of the project to change the grade and direction of the driveway.
The driveway project required:
Fill: 1,200 yds. (75 tri-axle dump truck loads)
Gravel & Process: 180 yds.
Topsoil: 180 yds.

Total cost for driveway with me as GC = $30,000

Here’s a link to (too many) pictures of the driveway project.
(First page has mouse-over before and after pics)
Many of the pictures were taken from me sitting on the peak of the roof.

What’s nice about this design is that the 3 lower bays are completely hidden from the street view.
Now I just need to come up with a scaled down, affordable version.

The project took a year longer than expected. Within a week of bringing in the 1,200 yds. of fill, there was a “cease and desist” order in my mailbox from the Town Hall. Apparently, the max amount of fill/dirt/gravel you can bring in over 1 year without a permit is 200 yds. I also learned that one of my neighbors works in the Zoning Dept. Keeping it all from eroding away for that year was a major pain.
