I picked up the set of Gearwrenches at Sears that comes with the ratcheting stubby screwdriver. The screwdriver seems nice, I dont think the mechanism is as strong as my Snap-ons but it seems to handle load pretty good so far.

The thing I dont like is the "foreward-fixed-reverse" selector is backwards.

I dont know if some nincompoop put it together backwards or what, the arrow that should be "on" actually makes it go "off".

Anybody else have this problem? is it normal?

I havent checked the stubby handle yet. I also bought the 56 pc ratcheting set and didnt really notice either way if the directional was reversed or not. If it is, it didnt seem to bother me too much.

I liked how Sears has the gearwrench 18 pc set (the 7 pc wrench set + the stubby handle and bits) on sale for 29.99. The stubby handle alone is almost half that cost (12 or 13 bux).

chris, I believe that the wrench sets typically have 8 wrenches. They stripped the sets of one size - probably a larger one, and then put the stubby in its place. Although a bargain, Sears isn't as generous as they seem, seeing as how the 8 wrench sets went for $30 on sale as well.

That could be, for some odd reason I remember the metric sets all being 7 wrenches but the SAE set being 8. I think the smallest in that stubby screwdriver + SAE set was 3/8", Im guessing they took away a smaller one (the largest I believe is 3/4", I wouldnt figure a set like that would come with something larger than 3/4")

Hmm, you might be right, maybe it was the 5/16" that they removed? I do remember the metric being 8 pieces too, though, since it was on clearance last year.

I thought the set had 8 wrenches. Maybe I'm wrong... I'll have to look at the fractional set I bought the other day when I get home.

A little off topic...
Last year the $30 sale priced gearwrench sets were 10 piece. My g/f got me a metric set for xmas.
