Shhhhh!!!! You're giving me away!I thought Dan was hiding out in your saloon this whole time.![]()

Thanks Don,Nice to see you are home again after that long trip you were telling me about taking last month.
It's interesting about the night visitors up your way.
Oh...Glad you were only scrapped up.I stopped street riding after a hit & run years ago by an old man in a very broken down car - He didn't know he hit anything. Fortunately I didn't go under the car but it scared me. The guy turned left in front of me. I was only going 21mph but I steered hard right, hit him parallel hard, slammed my left palm on the windshield as I went up on the hood and fell back onto the ground. I was clipped in and thought for sure my carbon fiber frame bike was broken but it wasn't. I was able to get up and ride home though a little scraped up. Pretty much stopped riding after that.
Glad you prevailed but more glad (gladder? ha ha) you weren't seriously hurt! You were VERY lucky 2 times and I was too. Did you actually get any money? At least a new bicycle?Oh...Glad you were only scrapped up.
I've been hit by cars twice while bicycling. The first time a woman scooped my handle bar up with her Lincoln. I had to pound on her hood to get her to notice. She slammed on the brakes and I went flying forward. I was able to get my feet un-clipped. Back then we only wore bicycle caps. I was scraped up but my bike was toast.
Second time. I was riding and saw a guy on a cross street looking to make a left hand turn. I was going about 25MPH. He turned to look and never saw me. I was looking right at him. No way for me to stop in time. I had enough time to prepare to get hit. I leaned in to his hood and flipped the bike on the hood. My cranks shattered the windshield. That time I stayed clipped in. Cut my legs pretty badly. I stopped riding after that.
I had to go to court in both cases because both insurance companies tried to blame me for the accidents. I won both cases. The second case I had drawn pictures and taken photos of the accident site. When I was through testifying, the judge asked "You don't have any more drawings?" I said no. He then said "Those were very good." The judge in the second case was an avid bicyclist.
Thanks, me too. I did get money and a new bike along with Bell helmet. I felt like I was wearing a toilet bowl on my head.Glad you prevailed but more glad (gladder? ha ha) you weren't seriously hurt! You were VERY lucky 2 times and I was too. Did you actually get any money? At least a new bicycle?
Naw, You do what your comfortable with.I tried taking my bike over to the Bowl in my truck but I still felt fear so I stopped. I probably should have pushed through it.
Ha ha, yeah me either. I'm a LOT older than you but I spent plenty of time laid up. I think kids fall into categories.....I remember walking into emergency because I got something stuck above my eyelid. The nurse said, "Walking in. That's a good sign. Usually you're on a stretcher."
Fortunately, no it was another helmet. The accident made me think I should buy a better helmet, then I stopped riding so very few miles on it. There were two long-ish stickers inside the helmet but they are worn away from being in a crate knocking around with other bike stuff for years. I don't see any date in it.Dan,
Do the replacement pads update the expiration date of the helmet? Usually helmets have a expiration date stamped inside the liner. Just like cheldrens car seats, etc.
Is that the helmet you were wearing during the previously accidents?

Dan, I trim things from the ground and pay someone to use a ladder. Just had Ixes trim 10 feet off the top of two oak trees and open up a tamarind tree in the back yard so I can throw a cat through it (Florida hurricane thing). If you have a problem that can be fixed with money, it isn't a real problem.Best to hire that out now. I used to cut the neighbor's eucalyptus trees that grew over the wall. I'm to old to climb or use a rope saw anymore. The neighbor doesn't care for me but I still ask. I also let him know that I will pay for the removal of my side and he is welcome to add on to have it further trimmed. He always says no.
I should have checked in on this ^^^^^ thread about the alive and ambulatory" comment before today's activities. Can't put a price on staying alive and ambulatory.
I'd hire that out in an instant before becoming a post in the WTF thread with your ladder perched on a scaffold perched on a couple of cement locks perched on some Homer buckets, etc.....

Last thing you want is for the aholes at Dome Hepot to help you. Have you seen what they can do to a lawnmower?Big job there Dan. Somebody must do it. So It was you today and a trip over to home Depot for help tomorrow????
If that helmet is around 5 years old and kept in a shed, it definitely doesn't have the effectiveness that it once had. If I were you, I would replace it. All helmets degrade over time, heat and sun doesn't help either. Stay safe.Fortunately, no it was another helmet. Dan,
Get one of theses.
I'm sure you have a paint extension pole.
I just checked and these cobweb brushes ^^^ are cheap but they don't attach to an ordinary threaded extension pole. But I DO have a long pool brush and I THINK it's head attaches with a little tab that like this brush requires. If not, I'll likely figure out a redneck approach and buy one anyway.Dan, @LeonardY has a great idea. As a pool owner, I suspect you have a pole or two for you pool cleaning chores. They sell that big fluffy cobweb brush in a pool pole version. Mine came with the house 27 years ago.

Of course Amazon carries them: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0026T5404/?tag=atomicindus08-20
More like 10+ years old or older. Why do they lose effectiveness? Does the foam or whatever become dried out/brittle? Or maybe the opposite, dried out and hard. I've been accused of having both a hard head AND having a brittle noggin, ha ha. Yeah, ok I'll start looking for a new (cheaper!) one.If that helmet is around 5 years old and kept in a shed, it definitely doesn't have the effectiveness that it once had. Bangs and bruises, as well as heat can damage the EPS foam. How well you care for your helmet, how often you use it and where you store it can all effect the life span. Kids helmets have the shortest life spans.More like 10+ years old or older. Why do they lose effectiveness? Does the foam or whatever become dried out/brittle? nor replacements because some inevitably break. I have all that stuff in my garage though.
I noticed I typed AZ after it posted but I'm in a campground with pretty lousy wifi so it wouldn't let me go back and edit it til now. Hopefully it'll work this time. Right now it only shows a place holder for the photos, not THE photo for me anyway.Gallup, ( …that’s in New Mexico) is lovely this time of year, Dan…
Dan by chance did you know about or checked out ValvoMax Quick drain valve? We drove up to Atascadero (California central coast) Tues to pickup a grand daughter (age 9). Drove back and took in Dodgers Opening Day (night!) Thurs. Our other two (4 & 9) were here on Friday all day. Makes for a bit of a mad house with them here so I can't get anything done but they are very well behaved, they're just little and full of energy and of course, adored.
Friday our son drove down after work. He's 'bustin *** working full time at a hospital, going to school full time to be an RN and still an excellent father to his daughter. Tough life right now but he's getting it done. Today I did an oil change on my Gladiator - SO damn easy with the Fujimoto petcock I installed at the last oil change. Didn't get a drop on me or the driveway, love it. Mowed the lawn, yada, yada, then to surprise him I did a front brake job on his Subaru when he fell asleep. He brought the parts and wanted to do it but his plate is overflowing so I knocked it out quick.

Never heard of it before but I’m sure it would work fine.Dan by chance did you know about or checked out ValvoMax Quick drain valve?
