Man, you ALMOST made it through a long post with spelling & punctuation NOT triggering my OCD. You even used “then” AND “than” in the same sentence correctly and then just as you were turning into the home stretch you used “to” when you likely meant to use “too”. Maybe the damn autospell kicked you!

Anyway, yes out of that long post my at times severe sensitivity picked out that one little mistake. But I agree with your thoughts.

Opps, sorry, misusing the word to and too is an easy to overlook mistake to make.
I have a cousin I was really close with when we were boys. He moved to the Pacific Northwest after high school and I didn't talk to him for a lot of years until I did again on Facebook. Love him dearly but he hasn't a clue when to use "to" and too". He tends too use to like this........drives me crazy but I don't say anything of course. Ugh, have to bite my tongue or in the case of Facebook, bite my typing fingers!

If only "to" and "too" were the only misused words! Try "your" and "you're", "their" and "there" -----------
Ha ha. (TO ALL OTHER GJ'ers WHO KNOW ME). This GJ'er doesn't know me too well do he? Lol.

gilr, if you search you'll find I have posted threads about all of those words and of course things like "breaks" vs. "brakes" and on and on.

I've also thrown a hissy fit here over why the EFF can't anyone spell?

And why do people write out "y'all"? I can completely understand saying it if you were brought up in parts of the country where it is commonly used. But I do NOT understand the need to write it out. Do people think it gives them "cred" off some kind? And of course I have a cow about people who did NOT grow up saying it but have co-opted it out of some sense that it makes them sound like some celebrity (who also DECIDED to artificially adopt that term).

And of course all these things I have b!tched about has caused me to be called a "nazi" - which apparently is the label you earn for being you know....literate..... But in my case I'm not so literate I just use spell check and I read the printed word - which is another complaint because that is frequently incorrect too these days.

I've been saying y'all forever, puppy. More than half a century before I met any of y'all. I learned it at my grandpappy's knee. And he started learning it around 1870. And if you think that's bad, he married a Victorian Scottish girl. You can imagine the linguistic education I received coming up.

Of course you're a Nazi. So what? Smart money has it that you teach by example. You do your best, and others will do theirs. If it doesn't meet your standards, just remember that we're not in high school anymore, and chill, dog.

So, even spell check won't save you! Seriously, while it bothers me that our educational system produces people with so little literacy it just makes me shudder! Grammar and spelling and proper verb usage has almost completely gone away. One peeve of mine is when supposedly educated journalist will use "it has got......" Just drives me crazy, but it has become the accepted norm apparently. In any case it is time to get back to your regularly scheduled tasks, maybe even anchor your Gazebo down with some suitable Tapcons??? :)

DOn't care about saying it as I posted above. I don't understand any need to write it out.

PS: Don't call me puppy, doll!

Maybe I should post this question on the Electrical sub forum but how can I add a 120v outlet to these exterior lanterns? Each has 3 of the smaller style bulbs. We want to hang a large lighted red bow on each gate column for Christmas decoration and they would come on when the lantern comes on in the evening. Yes, I could just run an extension cord - and I might have to do that if there's no GJ way to do it the way I want.

Were I in your shoes, I'd set the lamps on extended bases and scab a GFCI with a weatherproof cover onto that.

Or put a square box under the lamps, with a square to post adapter and put a horizontal GFCI on the side of the box.

Or, you could get one of those bulb base receptacle things, and drill a hole for the extension cord into the bottom of the light. Then when you pull it, you can just cork the hole and put the bulb back.

You could use something like this. But, I assume you need a candelabra base - might be tougher to find. They do make candelabra base adapters that will accent a standard base and these would screw into that.

They have the candelabra base ones on Crapazon.
I finally got around to looking at Amazon and found this. I didn’t know the small or “chandelier” light bulbs have numbered sizes. Still not sure what size mine are but I think this will work. As you say Kay, I can drill a hole in the bottom of the lantern housing for the cord to extend through. Then plug it when I don’t need them the other 11 months of the year.

In a bit I'll go pull one of the bulbs and see if the base number size is printed on it. I never knew they had numbered sizes! I'm most definitely NOT a "Sparky" guy. If it required me to re-wire the lamp I doubt I could figure it out. Anyway, on Amazon the various ones are listed as E12, c E29, and E36.

If it's a little chandelier bulb, with a tiny screw base, then E12.

I assume there is someplace online where the full variety of base sizes are listed?
I've only ever seen ones I will call "normal" or usual light bulb base size and two smaller ones. For lack of a better description one is just smaller than the "normal" and the other is REALLY small, like maybe 1/4" diameter.

Google "light bulb base chart". Several variations of what you're looking for.

E12 is about half an inch in diameter.

Thanks you guys. Yes, I figured it should be a relatively common size. Thanks rharman & Kay for noting it is a three bulb fixture which likely = E12 which = "candelabra" size. We only put 2 bulbs in them because they were too bright. Having one unused light socket will work perfectly for one of these adapters when I hang the big Christmas bows. I may only leave 1 bulb inside the fixture or even no light inside so the Christmas bow lights show.
