I forgot to post the AFTER of the aluminum scoop shovel refurbish project from post #2652 above.

It works, It looks a lot better and the wood is no longer falling apart.
The rivet that attaches the shovel head was a bit loose - I hammered that to swell it and that fixed that. I couldn't find my very small triangular file so I couldn't square out the holes for the carriage bolts to sit flush with the metal surfaces. Oh well, I can live with it. I won't notice them....eventually!

On to the next thing that needs work.

PS: The shovel is now about 1-1/2" shorter than it was due to rot. But then?... So am I....and more or less for the same reason!

Gonna need a LOT of labor to pay these prices, especially diesel since I own a diesel pickup. Fortunately it's a 3.0
Duramax and I get 19-20 mpg around town which consider amazing in a full size truck body. I've gotten a high of 26.7 mpg on a trip though it doesn't truly make the price any less horrible.

Duramax and I get 19-20 mpg around town which consider amazing in a full size truck body. I've gotten a high of 26.7 mpg on a trip though it doesn't truly make the price any less horrible.

It's one of the reasons I order onesie-twosie stuff online over going to the store. As well as saving up all my stops in one trip, unless it's an emergency. A trip to the store is minimum $10 in gas, plus wear n tear. Sure brings the price of half a dozen screws up into the ridiculous range. Going to an NWA meeting costs almost double that. 1 meeting a week makes it near $1000/year. I'm having a serious rethink about a lot of things.

Same boat here though the Tool Box Truck gets around 12 MPG. It weighs over 9K. I try to ride as much as I can because mid 30s MPG for the bikes, but temps in the 90s are a no-go for me these days.

The other day I was talking to someone about family “Sunday drives”. They were incredulous. “You drove around with a car full of people with no particular place to go?!” Sounds ridiculous nowadays.


And remember my previous rant that prices NEVER go down. There MIGHT be an exception but I think the few exceptions are strategic. Yes, “old man shouting at clouds”!

I just bought a second pipe and tube sander because the brown truck would deliver it for less than what a round trip to Phoenix would cost me to retrieve the one I have sitting under my weld table there.

Ok, home from RV-ing a few days in San Diego. The original idea was it would be cooler there - it was NOT. Just as humid. Pretty sure you guys in Florida/Deep South will be "playing tiny violins" for us. Local news says this has been record humidity for Southern California. They even printed this little chart and advised we've been at about 76-77 dew point so "oppressive". Hell yeah, and friggin awful. Normal for us is usually about 50 inland and closer to 60 near the beach towns.

Long ago in my working life I worked for Rockwell on the Shuttle Orbiter program and had to go to both Houston and to Florida. Bad as they were - and they were bad - neither was quite as humid as these last two weeks have been. But of course then I was in my 30's not my 70's.

The same station is now priced at $8.59 for diesel. Holy guacamole! And it's the only station that sells #2 diesel in town that I've found. I don't use "Bio" or "Renewable" in my 3.0 Duramax as I was advised when I first got it and it has never thrown an emissions related code - fingers crossed it continues.

A relative has a Costco that sells diesel but it isn't #2 so I won't use it.

I use this in my trucks. I try to avoid questionable fuel, but have used it on occasion without a problem.

If you're worried about contaminants, I used to install these huge filter-separators with a gigantic bowl on all my diesels. They were sorta like a Dahl, but bigger. It's been 45 years so I don't remember who made them, but they worked a charm on ****** diesel. I even had one on my boiler and furnace and water heater when we heated with oil.

I honestly don't know why I was advised to use only #2 by the dealer's service manager but over time I have come to trust the guy a lot. He has saved me literally thousands of dollars in a number of different ways. So I trust the guy and he has dealt with these trucks since they came out in 2019.

He also advised not to screw with the trucks software. Don't "tune" or "delete" it. This small 3 liter straight six manages to put out a LOT of power to tow over 9000 lbs and supposedly get over 30 mpg. In my case the highest I've gotten is 26.7 mpg but I consider that fantastic.

Now thinking about the idea of the #2 diesel I would think the issue isn't what it might contain more than what it does NOT contain vs. Bio or Renewable.

I saw an article today noting that diesel prices in some areas have "broken" the station displays. They can only go up to $9.999.

Saw a similar comment about the pumps in (some?) locations. You've gotta think pump manufacturers planned ahead though. Maybe some very old models though.

I remember in the 70s, when the pumps couldn't go over $.999, and they started tacking stickers with 1s on them. Guess we'll see that again.
