Between 265 & 485 SQ/FT The "Glendora Garage"

It's been SO damn hot here! Spent the last couple days trimming shrubs front & back and getting cooked by the sun. Today I thought I'd work on some rearranging in the garage around the new fridge that blocked some of my Wall Control pegboard.

I doubled the height above my clean bench and tried to arranging the stuff. I can't tell if I like how things are arranged until I take a picture and live with it a few days. I hate pegboard when they try to put everything they own on it all haphazard - pings my OCD! ha ha.

I added the drill holder/power tool battery rack on the lower right and moved the paper towel bar/shelf to the upper right so I could hang the $25 Costco First Aid kit there closest to the house door. Right now it looks too busy, too crammed to me. Not sure what I'll put in the upper middle area. I also need a surge protector mounted on the right side to plug in the Milwaukee battery chargers.

I would move the drill bit set to the left of the tin snips...
Swap positions on the drill holder and the pliers rack.
That puts the bits and the drills on the same vertical plane.
Ditch the tape holders, they take up too much space.

Don't forget to put a timer ahead of the battery chargers. That way they won't be igniting while you're asleep.

All good suggestions. I’ll try them out, take some pictures and see how they strike me.
I had the shelf with paper towels to the left but the auto door closer hinge thing makes the door slam and the towels fall off! That’s why I moved it to the right.

Kay, what kind of timer? Would the kind I plug into an outlet ahead of Christmas lights work? The kind with a round “clock” thing you set? I’ll let it it power up between say 8-5-ish. That way if I ever get a fire I’ll be awake to know it’s happening! I’ve had them plugged in 24/7 - NOT w/batteries charging - but never felt all that good about it.

Wait.....when you said drill bit holders I thought you meant the ones in the smaller red Milwaukee folding bit holders. You meant the green enclosed box, right? I can move the to the right directly over where the drills are now and it'll all be in one vertical plane. The Towel shelf would move toward the center. Not sure how I feel about that but I will try it.

What's out of sorts now is the Crescent wrenches and open end wrench rack are not together, either vertically or horizontally. I'll have to play with that a bit to see what looks good and is most "use-able".

Dan, my battery charger power strips are connected to count-down timers. Rather than the chargers powered on every day for a time, I press a button to turn power on for a set amount of time and it shuts off until I press a button again. The one in the garage is hard wired...

...and the other is a plug-in in the workshop.

On your hardwired timer I assume both outlets to the left are controlled by it? And on the plug-in one there is an outlet on one side only? Since I have two battery chargers it'd be helpful if it had two.

Dan, the hardwired timer only controls the top half of the duplex outlet and I plugged a multi-outlet power strip into that one. The battery tender for the Corvette plugs into the lower half so it always has power.

Yes, the plug-in timer has only one outlet. I plugged another multi-outlet power strip in there as well. If you don't want a corded outlet, Belken has a direct plug-in three outlet plus two USB charge port brick that can plug into the plug-in countdown timer.

So THIS happened yesterday afternoon.

It was late afternoon before dark so Cal Fire really jumped on it hard. It was started by an RV catching fire up on a road that goes through that area. I'm guessing about 1/2 mile as the crow flies from our front door. Two scoop planes, two Sikorsky(sp?) dual rotor, heavy lift helicopters and a bunch of smaller copters got right on it. Came in VERY low overhead. I missed getting a pic of the plane but could see pilots clearly

Later, the fire flared up again on a higher ridge but they jumped on that too. As we went to bed it was out but there were eyes on the area to make sure it didn't flare up overnight. Whew, all's well that ends well.

I know that feeling well and I've seen those pilot faces up close too. Glad it all turned out well for you. This heat is no fun for those firefighters but they are cool to watch as they work for our behalf. I put the man lift up as high as it would go to watch them work a fire just behind me last year.

Hi Don.

Yes, I'm really impressed with how quick they were to respond. The first small helicopter was circling almost immediately and I think it called in the calvary. The two tanker planes were there in under 7-8 minutes from when I first saw it, then more small copters and finally the big two rotor heavy lift ones.

Yes, because it SEEMED obvious they would put it out quickly and we'd not have to worry about evacuation, etc.

When it flared up again an hour later on the upper ridge, the helicopters had all left. But they must have gone to refuel or something because as soon as one came back they saw the flare up and must have radioed that they needed more water dumps. They had the flare up out in just a few minutes.

They seem to be pretty well built other than one of them had a full extension slide installed backwards from the factory. No biggie once I realized why the basket wouldn’t pull out.

The double decker units have an upper back bracket that screws to the rear wall for stability.

Direct from my computer they kept rotating 90* to the left no matter what I did.

So... I uploaded them to Photof*ckit and even though I went through the steps I normally go through for whatever reason the computer wouldn't copy them even though it said it had! I THINK it's because the phone saved these photos with the HEIC suffix instead of the JPG suffix and I have no idea why nor how to change them from one to the other. I'm still trying. Not because these pics are so damn important but not letting this defeat demotivates me!

I'm not familiar with the "NEIC" sufix, but this may or may not work: copy one of the photos into a new folder, change the HEIC to jpg and see if you can post it to your page. HTH.

Especially when the shelf is up high. Unless my girlfriend uses a step ladder she can’t see anything other than whats up front. Pretty pleased with this little project.

Hey, for any that remember my folly in buying/setting up & ruining a Fiat 500 as a toad for my RV - Here’s another project on it.

It’s so small & low that the fascia drags on parking lot concrete stop blocks. Since modern cars are put together with plastic clips the fascia has started to pull away from the body & looks like ****.

Today’s project is to put it back as close to factory-tight as I can. I’m hoping for the best. Thanks to YouTube for a tutorial on R&R’ing the fascia.

Already jacked tires removed before remembering to take a “Before” picture. The 4 torx screws I’m pointing to on top & a few more underneath plus a few in the wheel wells is all that holds it on. I’ll post in-process & After pics later.

Yeah, I don't know why it rotates 90* counter clockwise. I tried editing but it doesnt work.

Anyway, just the 4 bolts across the top, unplugging lights and it came off in 5 min.

The passenger signal light had 2 of 3 mounting tabs broken off and the light hadn't been working. My test light took a dump so I couldn't tell if there's power to it.

Runs to Home Depot, Harbor Freight and a side trip to Costco, getting Halloween decoration out for my girlfriend and I didn't get back to it. More to come.

Kay, actually the worst part of that picture isn’t my long neck. It’s my fat belly. As a neighbor told he, he’s put on “The COVID 19” as in pounds. I have put on a lot because I have indulged my addication to Cokes. I was buying the 35 can flats from Costco. I just finished the last of them and I’m not buying any more. I’ve got an appointment for a physical the end of October and I plan to see what cutting them out does for my weight. Of course the Cocoa Puffs don’t help but I’m not buying anymore of those either.

THE HISTORY: (edited for brevity)
We bought it to use as a toad. I accidentally left it in gear, towed it and the timing belt broke and the pistons hit the valves, engine ruined.

YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED:
I ultimately found a used engine with 30,000 fewer miles than the 82,000 the car has and had it installed.

This car has had its issues. It was in an accident at some point - found small glass shards under the rear seat. That MIGHT explain why the passenger window has fallen off the lifting mechanism twice. OTOH, the windows are very large and that may have been caused by a poor Italian design. Also, it is so low to the ground from factory the front fascia is EASILY “caught” on parking lot concrete stops. That’s results in pulling the fascia loose.

OVERALL:

It’s not a “bad”car like the old Fiats are described. The engine was my own stupidity. It drives well and though it is not fast it is fun to drive in a go kart sort of way. FYI: I briefly considered replacing it with an Abarth. They are a LOT of fun. I’d love to have one but will never buy another Fiat 500.

I forgot to post "After" pics of the Fiat but it came out fine. The front fascia fits tightly and totally stock appearing EXCEPT for a slight piece on the driver's side where a little piece of the brown plastic was lost when it first pulled away. Oh well. Not worth fixing and painting, we'll live with it and the car runs just fine.
