Five months ago my garage flooded during the ever popular hurricane sandy. I've been over sea and am just now getting back to clean up the mess. My house was designed to flood, I knew it would happen eventually but I was expecting to have time to prepare. I didn't happen that way. Most of my storage is off the ground so most of the high dollar stuff survived unscathed. The one exception was my craftsman pro air compressor. Despite spending three days completely submerged while plugged in it appears to run fine. It did however have 15 gallons of rusty nasty water in the tank. I'm trying to decide on a way forward with it. I'm thinking replacing the oil would be a good idea. Should I try to coat the inside of the tank with something or just run it till it finally rusts out? I'm also worried about the relief valves should I replace them or just run them and not stand ne'er the compressor?
Also anyone know how much oil the 25 gallon compressor needs? I can't find the user manual and sear's website is completely useless.
