I’m getting a borla muffler welded in my truck exhaust and the snap on truck pulls up, I’m in trouble....
It’s been 10 years since I’ve been on a tool truck, it was nice talking to the owner and looking at his tools. The ratchet was something I had been planning on ordering from the website, glad I could support a local business man instead.

get a replacement handle for an SDD8 green screwdriver and drill it out. fits perfect...

Is that for 1/2" or do you/can you use those with 3/8 ratchets? Or would you use the SDD4 or 6?

thats for the 1/2"
if you're doing the 3/8 you need a SDD6 handle. but it'll be bigger than the FLHD handle on the 3/8. the FHLD have a reduced shank size and is also shorter. I used a SDD4 on mine for the work truck but had to cut 7/16" off the shank on the FHL 3/8 ratchet. the D in the hard handled FLHDs means reduced diameter. you can see the shank differences in the second pic, both 3/8 ratchets. long one is a normal flex head long handle soft grip and the little stubby shank is a 3/8 hard handle shank. the first pic shows the length of the soft grip FLH 3/8 compared to the grip that comes on the FHLD
(which is the same length as an SDD4 handle but just a smidge smaller diameter.

You don't by chance remember what size you drilled them too? I can always measure it when i get the old handle off, I'm just curious what size gave you a good interference fit.thats for the 1/2"

off hand I don't. I took the shank and slid it in my empty drill index for size, and then went 1/64 smaller. lol. just be careful you don't drill all the way through it.

. Stayed up all last night reorganizing the shop. I've bought and sold a couple boxes to get where I'm at. I drove 300 miles and traded a rolling fox body mustang (1200ish bucks) for the last piece of my puzzle... my MR Schmedium is almost done. still need to shim the right box before locking down the end cab that ties them together. I'm pretty happy.. a lot of CL and LEtgo pieces the last 8 months or so have made all this come together, but a lot of legwork to make it affordable. lol
this was my old setup. red box cost me a legit 450 bucks off craigslist. sold it for 1500.
Drove 300 miles one way to trade for this newer KTL1022.. Starting pouring half way home... urgh

As far as the replacement handles are concerned, I may add that currently Snap-on manufactures six 3/8 drive hard handled ratchets that come in green. Instead of using replacement handles off screwdrivers, you could just order the 3/8 ratchet handle. The part number is FHD80-12G. It would still need to be drilled out a bit to put it on a ratchet that originally came with a soft grip.
As for the new 1/2" hard handle ratchets the only one that is out yet TMK is the 25" long flex head. SHLFD80AG should be available to for your driver to order. Hopefully 3 other varieties coming.
BTW as Angrybeaver said you could order SDD6 or SDD8 screwdriver handles in green and make them work but Snap has 2 better options. If you order the SDD5R1RG part number on here it is perfect for 1/2 ratchets in that it is stamped Snap-on and USA only no screwdriver part number. you missed everything I posted. the shanks are different diameters and lengths between the soft grips and the hard handles. if you order a handle for an FLHD80 and put it on a soft grip, it won't fit...it will need drilled out and 1/2" of the shank cut off. the length of the FHLD80 shank is posted above with the soft grip on top of it. there is 2" difference in length of the shank.
I had two 3/8 snap on replacement handles for the FHLD ratchets.(not screw driver handles).

I have not shortened a shank to make a handle work but only because I guess I just wouldn't choose to modify the actual ratchet itself. ok, I didn't want people to buy the 3/8 hard handle like i did and expect it to be a direct swap on a soft grip like you had made it sound... because thats what i did. I own a couple real hard handled flexes but wasn't selling my beat up work truck models for a loss just to turn around and buy new.
I've only painted the overhead locker and that little lista double door locker on top of the end cab. for all the more that is seen, its a close match. I would not however attempt to paint a complete box, locker, or hutch with it, if that makes sense

I really wish Snap On would stop wasting space on the logo, that tray could be so much more efficient. If I used all my trays, I would need four drawers just for my screwdrivers. Some are better than others, but having the logo is silly.

I agree that it is a waste of valuable drawer space. I was just thinking abut tossing out some trays when I added this screwdriver set as that drawer now can't hold all those similar tools in one. I was thinking of maybe doing foam in that drawer to pack everything in.
The old trays used to nest everything tight together much better. I think they do it on purpose to eat up box space and get us to buy more / bigger toolboxes! I like to stay organized and with multiple jobs working at the same time (tools scattered all over 2 bays) I rely on that visual of an empty tray spot to remember what's where and find everything when I clean up. Some sets, like the 2 jaw pullers, I have just cut the tray in half and threw away the unnecessary extra portion.

Honest question for all you green junkies - Do any of you regret starting your green collection?
I'm just starting to replace a lot of my cheap tools with Snap On so I don't have much of a collection yet. It's driving me crazy because I love the green tools but it seems they're almost always harder to find and command a premium price (on top of the Snap On premium). Every time I come across deals on Craigslist it's always red and I can't deal with that color mismatch. Sometimes the green stuff sells for more than new because it's rare and I don't have a Snap On dealer to "see what's new on the truck."
For example, I'm trying to buy the big 12 piece screwdriver set (SGDX120). There are a few new/like new red sets for sale on eBay for $200-250 but no green. Previous listings show some green sets but they typically sell for closer to $300. Deals are out there but I'd rather spend my time wrenching than checking eBay and classifieds 3x a day!
If you were just starting to build up a collection would you go the green route again? I have a feeling that starting a green collection is going to cause me a lot of pain over the next 20 years....
PS: Why does it seem like a huge percentage of the new green Snap On stuff on eBay is from the UK?

None of my tools match, long as they work I dont care the color, that being said I buy as little from snap on as possible, but I do have a multimeter, high leverage green side cuts, pick set, and hammer, a side from my box. I break then replace, so far the cheap has lasted well even sockets on the Milwaukee half inch m18, I've never understood how people break tools, lol
