Re: The Green Tools ****

I’ve been looking forward to a set of these for a while, and when I started using them today they’re even better than I expected. Everything about these is superior to every other pair of snap ring pliers I’ve used - from the grippy handles to the quick-release mechanism for converting them, to the correct orientation and formation of the tips for each use. VERY happy with these. And the the best part - they come in GREEN haha...

Re: The Green Tools ****

My 100th Anniversary ratchet set finally came in... And you know I had to immediately swap those boring grey hard handles they come with to GREEN [emoji51]

I have one green handled Snap On ratchet so far.Going to switch out two red handle Snap On ratchets to the green handles, these have the soft grip handles. The way I saw they come off is soak the handles in very hot water first and they come off.

Yep, VERY hot water is your friend. I straight up stick the handle end of the ratchet in boiling water for about 2 or 3 minutes. The soft grips take a bit longer to come off easily. These hard handles came off after a few minutes in boiling water with no problem at all.

Interesting, I would have thought the hard handles would be more of a PITA, I have done several of the soft grips, got to get that red off as quick as possible!

I thought the same thing - the soft grips gave me a fight, so I assumed the hard handles would be a huge pain. Not the case at all - the hard grips came off in about 1/3 of the time it took me to remove the soft grips (using the same hot water method for both).

One night I asked my GF to start a pot of water boiling so it would be ready for me when I got home. When I put the ratchets in it, she was like, WTF, I found out afterwards she had added salt since she assumed I want to make pasta. ;)

Picked up the new “flank jaw” pliers with the hex grip built into the jaws. This is one of those tools that I never in a million years I thought I would need until I saw them on the truck, but I have used the SNOT out of these things since I got them last week. Already one of my favorite pair of pliers:

Interesting. My normal 47ACF pliers are probably the most used tool I own, besides ratchets and sockets. Next time I'm on the truck, I may just have to buy this new version too. Didn't even know about them.

So these followed me home yesterday... They were on current sales flyer and my truck account balance was down to a comfortable amount, so I picked up an early Christmas gift for myself.

I'm normally a Milwaukee guy, but I've been wanting these for literally years. And honestly, it's not that much more than buying the comparable M12 versions. In fact, I think I will be buying more 14.4v tools, these things are nice, can't wait to actually use 'em.

Yeah, I've already got a running "wish list." Any suggestions on what I should get next?

My Snap On guy is getting a new truck full of new tools end of January. We'll see what else follows me home with my tax returns shortly there after.

I love the drill, the reciprocating saw gets a lot of use. The ratchets are what I mostly use, I see you got the long neck brute. I like that one for the torque but it is a little slow so that's why I have the other one also. The magnet boots for the batteries are awesome. I have like 13 of those. I stick spare bits on the battery on the screw gun. I also stick screws and small bolts there. I also have the bluetooth speaker, it's not that loud but I had to have that.

The brushless screw gun is on my list. I know Snap on is expensive especially when you compare to Milwaukee, and Milwaukee has great stuff, I have some at home. Besides the cost, I can't complain about the Snap on stuff. I have had a few warranty issues and 1 out of warranty repair. No hassles getting repairs and since the service center isn't far, I got them back in a week

The only 14.4 tool I had enough trouble with that I don’t own one anymore is the polishing tool, Milwaukee makes a far better version anyway. I mostly use the ratchets, they are better than the Milwaukee for sure. Drill is nice, impacts are ok, but if you want any power Milwaukee makes a stubby 1/2” drive that is an animal. I am most likely going to trade in my impacts and get something more useful. I am waiting for a 1/2” ratchet both long and short, that would be really nice.

I just ordered my 1st 14.4 green tool from snap on. I'm not a huge fan of their cordless, but im giving them a chance because I like the long reach cordless ratchet and curious to see how it compares to my milwaukee.

Re: The Green Tools ****

When I changed batt platforms at work, I considered the current snap-on 14.4v li-ion. My old ct4410 14.4v nicad 3/8 impact held up great. But the snap-on cordless stuff is just too pricey for me. I got my ct4410 from the student program, at around 50% off

The snap-on ratchets look nicer than the M12 but I've never actually used any cordless ratchet. But I honestly don't even use my air powered snappy far7200 or my older model bluepoint 1/4 ratchet a huge amount

The ct761 impact is nice, I've used one, once or twice, and they seem to hold up well and the butterfly trigger is nice... but not a lot of power with 120 ft/lbs, my old ct4410 14.4v nicad has more power on paper with 150 ft/lbs

I think I saw that snap-on makes a cordless die grinder now, they have a bunch of different lights that run off the 14.4v

I did not buy the Snap On tools for speed or torque ratings. I bought them because I like them, because I want them. They each have features that interest me. I would only expect these 2 to be the beginning of my collection. Also, I'm not concerned with warranty.

I also don't intend on selling or otherwise stop using my Milwaukee tools. In fact, I've been meaning to buy the M12 right angle die grinder since they started being carried in store.

I'm not a one tool for everything kinda guy. I have multiple impacts and ratchets. Each is different and each have their strength and weakness, for different jobs.

I really like the 14.4 impacts, the trigger is forward and reverse just by using the upper or lower part of it. The issue I have is they are not powerful at all. I would use this analogy, Snap On is selling you a nut driver for the price of a ratchet and Milwaukee is selling you a long handled ratchet for the price of a short handled one.

So happy, I’ve been wanting a black/green Techangle for a while, and I’m even more happy it was the new 5-125 ft/lb range - this will cover 99% of what I do. Getting it on sale was the icing on the cake.

Also tracked down one of these guys in green, been searching for one for what feels like forever:

Bought this green screwdriver kit when Snap-On corporate used to rent the small Toronto Convention Centre and do a public tool sale every fall. 50% off, bought quite a few other things back then as well.

How much was that techangle? You can PM if you'd prefer. My driver showed me one about a month ago and I was shocked by the price; wondering what it runs on sale. I could use one.

I gave $490 for it. It was part of a BOGO deal that my driver split up (ATEC125FHLLG) that pairs the 3/8" Techangle with a 3/8" green hard grip extra-long handle flex-head ratchet (FHLLFD80G). I've already got all the ratchets I need, so my driver split the kit up.
