The Green Snap-on Tools ****

My driver dropped off my new CTR717GDB this afternoon. I know it’s new, but damn if it isn’t already my favorite ratchet. SO much easier to swing around and hold up than a 3/8.

Looks sweet. I'm tempted to buy one. Any example where the extended 1/4" is more useful than short?

Intake manifolds, exhaust manifolds, some pulleys, brake line bracket bolts, bumper mounting bolts, door hinge and body panel bolts - I’ve noticed this thing really shines in areas near painted surfaces where you don’t want to mar or scratch a painted surface, or don’t have the room to fit the body of the regular “short” powered ratchet. I can already see where this is going to be a rock star for interior work disassembling dash panels.

LOL I would have never picked up the 1/4 long neck if I hadn’t gotten the 3/8 first - I just never thought it would be stout enough. After using that 3/8 for a few weeks, that’s when I figured you were right and the long 1/4 would be even better. Definitely not disappointed so far.

My first green Snap On piece. The 9" talon grip pliers. I'm gradually upgrading from Klein and Knipex to Snap On. Man these things feel good. So much more substantial than my Knipex 8" long nose.

Totally agree, I'm doing the same thing. I loved my Klein long nose until I tried the Snap-on, and now I'm switching over most of my pliers to Snap-on. I'm still a fan of Klein, but I really like the feel and strength of the Snap-on pliers.

Only bit of green from today’s visit from Snappy, CTLU861G. This light was one of the reasons I wanted to get into 14.4. So far I really like it. It’s adjustable too, which I wasn’t expecting.

I already have the black set of these, but saw in the catalog that Snap-on makes a green version of the 1/4” (TM4CSAG) and had my dealer order me one. I love these spinner handles with the female square drive in the end - I find them handy in so many situations. This also extends my 3 week streak of ordering stuff my dealer didn’t even know Snap-on made... [emoji1]

Not from anything I’ve seen - my dealer said he couldn’t find a green one in the system when he looked either. It’s weird that they would bother to make them only in 1/4”, but that’s probably the most common use for these...

[emoji106] Glad to hear you’re liking it. It takes a lot got me to grab my 3/8” CTR761 now, and I LOVE that ratchet. This 1/4” has really impressed me.

There was a promo going on with the comfort grip ratchets on the truck when they stopped by today. Ended up getting the straight and flex versions in 3/8" drive. Figured the green was appropriate for posting in here. Originally went with the regular handles, but purchased a 1/4" drive roto head a couple months ago and really liked the grip on it, so figured I would give the others a try as well. Stuck with the regular handles up to this point since I figured my uses around the farm would beat up the softer handles. But why not have both to use depending on the application? I really like the dual 80 ratchets, so more is always better, except now my top drawer is running out of room.

Continuing my pattern of trading for foam sets… Traded my SOEXM710 set for this SOEXM01FMBGX set that came with the green foam organizer. Now I have to convince myself that doing the same for my SAE set is worth it…

I bought a couple of sets of the pliers too, they are nice racks. I can’t get behind the foam wrench sets, they take up too much space for my liking, they do look nice though!

I agree, and wound up going back to the plastic tray for my wrenches. I like the way it looked, but when I went to start grabbing wrenches to actually do some work, I found it took more time/effort to get the wrenches out of the foam organizer. The plastic is grab and go, and takes up less space too. Good part is that I was able to sell the foam organizer pretty quickly for $100, so I actually wound up getting three free wrenches out of the deal.

I don’t think those hose clamp pliers are worth owning. I had them for one week and made my driver take them back. They are not as good as the blue point (I think made by Lang), I have some of those and the SKs and they are sooooo much better. IIRC the lock is really easy to pop open by accident, but they generally felt wrong compared to the all metal ones.

So I ordered the 1/4" long neck ratchet as well after I picked up the 3/8" long neck ratchet.
That was on 3/26. After a month or so of waiting for it to show up, I told my dealer to 86 the order.
Well guess what showed up yesterday? The damn 1/4" ratchet and of course I had to buy it.

I'm not sure if it will see more use than my 3/8" ratchet, I just got it yesterday, but I will say the weight difference is significant.
I wish Snap On had a mid-length 1/4" socket set in the impact variety. I don't even own chrome sockets these days. I may pick up the 1/4" impact swivels today (to go along with my 3/8" set) if my dealer still has a set available.

Overall I'm very happy with the 14.4v line thus far. The 3/8" impact has enough to pull lug nuts and everything feels great in the hand.
I may continue the journey and slowly change everything over from Milwaukee.

I've sold most of my Milwaukee recently. In fact, I'm seeing if I can sell my Milwaukee M12 non-fuel ratchets (1/4" and 3/8") now that I've got these Snap On ratchets. I doubt I'll be using the Milwaukee.

@AJHD That 3/8” impact keeps calling me. I keep hearing great things about it, but I’m not sure how I’d like the toggle trigger. I might have to see if my dealer will loan me one to compare with my DeWalt DCF902.

Congrats on finally getting your 1/4” ratchet! I use my 1/4” ratchet way more than my 3/8” now, but I think that has to do with the fact that my 1/4” is long neck vs the standard length 3/8”, where yours are both long necks. And also like you said, the 1/4” is noticeably lighter. I’m not going to upgrade the 3/8” to long neck until they come out with the long neck brushless. I got a chance to play with the new CTR861 on the truck last week, and it’s really nice - those lights on the end really make a difference, and I like that it has the same grip that the long neck ratchets have. Good thing it’s not out in green yet because I might not have been able to resist trading up.

To your point about chrome sockets - I use impact sockets almost exclusively, and was actually thinking about getting rid of my chromes, but I finally ran into a situation where a 10mm impact was too thick: battery terminals on a Toyota FJ Cruiser. Out came a chrome 10mm to the rescue - guess I’m keeping them after all!

My driver dropped off my new zeus workstation this week. I traded in my verus edge workstation. The zeus is definitely more responsive when compared to the edge. I've had the edge since 2016 and it served me well, but the new workstation is sweet in the extreme green, something that was not available when I bought the verus edge.
