New here, and happy to see a place to find like minded people. I am semi retired. I now work for myself as a professional handyman. Being old school and having done many jobs over my adult life, I’ve amassed a good lot of tools. I was taught that if you borrowed a tool twice, you need to own one.

I look around my small shop and see I have duplicates, triples And even fours of some tools. My question is, are there any other people in the world that when someone asks “ do you have an offset ratcheting screwdriver?” They can say 5 of em.

I have exactly as many tools as I need to use, I have duplicates but they are in my tool chest in the garage, workshop in the basement, in my tool belt, or tool box in the truck/camper. I try not to have excessive amounts of any one thing so I can have excessive amounts of everything!

Gotta make room for new stuff!!

OP that is just Sick, just plain Sickness that you have, why everyone on the GJ knows that you buy a tool for one or two times and then you just throw it away! Can you ever imagine having so many duplicates of so many tools just pure sickness op you need help in a bad way...

Good thing you found this site of Tool Anonymous or (TA) not to be confused with the AA tool web-site; because op we can put are hands on you, err tools and help cleanse your body and spirit and rid you of all your bad tool sickness.

Everything is free of course just leave your phone number and in a short time maybe 100 different GJ members that live close by will pay you a visit to rid you of all your sickness.

doneby--Welcome to GJ! You will find many people here with similar interests. Sad to say that if you only have 4 or 5 duplicates of tools, you are behind. GJ will show you that your tool collection is so small and pitiful that you will spend your new found retirement time spent adding to that collection. The real question is, "How many tools are too many?" Good luck with your quest.

It's a sickness that I share. It all started with my Father who's motto was always have a pair and a spare. Well, I've got at least 50 tape measures in both metric and imperial. Maybe six of seven circular saws, minimum of 30 routers (I really like routers and that's a very conservative estimate) but the worst is the 50 top of the line spray guns from SATA, Iwata and DeVilbiss along with 30 or so from ASTRO who makes the best cheap guns. Then there is the hundred or so sanding blocks and the 25 Dynabrade and AirVantage air sanders with the occasional Hutchins and National Detroit thrown in. Multiple welders and at least 40 grinders. I just hate changing bits on routers and abrasives on grinders so I dedicate machines for each purpose. I've had an 1/8" round over bit in a PC 690 for at least 25 years. It's probably stuck in there. Am I sick, probably yes but I don't drink and I've never been married and tools are a hell of a lot cheaper than booze and divorces so it's not that bad. If I had to do it all over again would I, damn right.

I acquired a complete set of Weatherhead sockets in a bundle purchase recently at an garage sale. I had no idea what they were until I Google'd the part number. Haven't used them yet, but having a farm, I'm sure the need will arise one of these days.
