12" Double-Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw With Laser Guide - #69684

image_21486.jpg

When I discovered that Harbor Freight was updating (in reality, UPGRADING) their 12" sliding compound miter saw, I decided to remain patient and wait until purchasing this tool (which I had been eyeballing for quite some time). I can now say with complete sincerity and integrity that GOOD THINGS COME TO THOSE WHO WAIT !!!

The updated 12" DUAL BEVEL sliding compound miter saw is an improvement from it's predecessor model in nearly every way. I love that the motor is now located behind the blade unit rather than adjacent - allowing for much less potential for interference. The miter base itself is a significant improvement as well - with clearly defined measurements and relative detents for the most common stops.

One of the MOST significant improvements, in my opinion, is the laser guide - which is now integrated just below the saw unit (where is SHOULD be) rather than attached onto the side (as it was in it's predecessor model). The laser is bright and true - and the 60-tooth carbide tip blade that came with the unit cuts through wood like a hot knife through butter. I was even impressed with how well the included dust bag caught a good deal of sawdust during cutting operations.

Bottom line ... I am VERY impressed with this latest update to Harbor Freight's 12" sliding compound miter saw line. It is, in my opinion, every bit comparable to it's much more expensive "brand name" equivalents - making this saw an AMAZING investment for the Home Hobbyist/Homeshop/DIY'er enthusiast.

:D

Wow that mitre saw looks nice. It's cheap. Oh well I'm happy with my metabo.

I think you mean these blades

http://www.harborfreight.com/planer-replacement-blades-pack-of-2-94990.html

The one you posted is for the bench top planer. the right ones are only $5.50 USD

Yeah, I should have looked closer. On that same page that popped up at the site though I noticed a bench plain (Item #97544) for $10 and a jack plain/mini plane set ( Item #92553) for $15. Think I may look at them next time I'm in store.
Anyone have them already? Is the shoe flat? Decent steel in the blades? Frog castings rigid?

really now ...? and only 3 post .....to your name ..... we have the same sets at work for the general population ( if we buy name brand ones they last about 3 seconds and are 5 finger lost ....:dunno:) and there not bad not as good as the gold bondus but not bad for the price,

a better picture would the allen not fitting and a name brand one that does ...not a new set in a garbage can....:wtf:

( yes everyday i have allen bolts that name brand wrenches do not fit..... allen heads are notorious to be damaged very very easily. i either file or pean them every day and rember to clean the heads out before you even try to loosen one....

Quick update for anybody doing research on the Harbor Freight 3200/4000 watt Predator generator.

I put my Kill-O-Watt on it to check the Hz output.
Unloaded 62.8hz, with 1400 watts on one leg of the generator (rated for 1600w on each leg) it was at 61Hz.

The manual doesnt list the spark plug type, it is a F7TC. That crosses to a NGK BP7ES and Autolite 63. There are four model numbers for this generator, two pairs each having a model for EPA cert and CARB cert. The other model pair manual says they use a F6TC plug.

I just photographed them in the trash can. When I have time, I'll take it back and trade it for something useful. The company, which produces them is Novan.

Their website says they produces it themselves, but this does not mean that they are made in the EU

3316 Snap Ring Pliers with interchangeable heads - FAIL
I knew these had bad reviews, but I needed to work on two snap rings to fix my dryer. Purchased. Mushroomed tips that didn't fit the rings and the joint was super loose too.

Returned and purchased:

96512 4 piece snap ring kit (mini) - FAIL
The tips didn't fit. They're just as bad as the interchangeable ones, but the're small so you get less leverage. The joint allows the tips to rock out of alignment. I tried sanding them down to avoid another trip to HF. No dice. Complete junk.

Run far far away from these. I fought with two snap rings that should have been easy and all I needed was one use out of these tools.

38353 Hand Riveter Set - PASS
I needed to put in 4 new pop rivets. One of the tips fit, and this worked as advertised. It's probably not the most solid thing in the world, but it works and it's cheap. If I needed more than a throw away tool I'd look elsewhere.

Thank you for the NGK plug type.. I was in the store the other day and they only had the next model up from the 3200/4000W and a bunch of 800W generators.

Hopfully by July they will be in stock.

I really do think they did a very good job with this recent upgrade/update. I mean, let's face it, it's still Harbor Freight ... but compared to the previous model, this latest/current model has a lot of upgraded features found on the more expensive brand name saws.

I plan on replacing/updating the saw blade that came with it soon - but as a purely home hobby/diy'er ... I am very pleased with this purchase (thus far).

I think if you order it online shipping is only $6.99.

I'm going nuts here.. I have the 18 Gauge 2-in-1 Nailer/Stapler which arrow staples fit it? It's closer for me to get these here then to drive 30 miles one way to HF which may or may not have the staples.

It's **** with brad nails.. I'm just going to return it since I don't have much use for the longer staples.

The No. 33 Bench plane could be tuned to perform.

Depending on the usage, you may need to shim the blade to close
the mouth

I have an older version of the 12" compound miter saw and the guides at the back are not parallel. I have to line up my blade to whichever side I am making the cut from so I end up with a perpendicular cut.

Hope the new ones are better.

I'll FAIL the snap ring pliers also. I had to use mine this weekend when replacing a bearing on a jointer, and I forgot how pathetic their snap ring pliers are. A 15 second job took 15 minutes.

On a more positive note, I'll give a solid PASS to the HF SDS Rotary Hammer Drill...with Bosch bits that drill works great on concrete, and at a fraction of the cost of a "name brand" SDS drill.

Anyone have any experience with the weight-distributing hitch, PN 67649?
Gets good reviews online, I have a buddy who recommended this one but I'd like to get more input if anyone has any experience. Searched the PN here but got no results.

The chock *****. Replaced that, the. The cyclinder was leaking. Fixed that to. Came across a nice handy lift and gave my neighbor this lift. Was it worth it, maybe but the quality is just not there. Maybe if I was just using it every now and then. But when I had a $20k + bike on there, just makes me cringe compared to the handy

ditto...mine is perfectly fine.

Same here. I've been really happy with mine, other than the chock which I replaced immediately after uncrating it.

Twisted the bit right out of the hex shank drilling in pressboard. They must have secured it with bubble gum residue!

ha ha. I only use these with my cordless drill driver. (the 3.4 volt tiny one) Like when im drilling in drywall or light baseboard. Or with the HF drill driver since the power ratio is evenly matched. LOL

Yes, that would be great. Thanks.

Here you go. Coupon code is 65397067. This should be all they really need. I had a friend pick one of these up for me before he drove up and all he gave them was the coupon code that I texted to him.

I have had this now for 2 years. I tossed out the tiny wheel clamp and bolted on the heavy duty one they sell. item#97841 http://www.harborfreight.com/motorcycle-stand-wheel-chock-97841.html

Here some pics of my Harley Bagger on it and a smaller Honda also. There are other uses for it like when i had to unload my toolbox. I had to build side platforms so my short legs could ride the bike up onto the platform. They are bulky but store on the lift when there is no bike on it. HF didn't sell side platform wings for this model lift. As you can see I over hung the new chock as much as I could to accommodate the long wheelbase of my Harley.
On the very front of the chock I bongie cord the small HF sissor jack to it so it's always there if i need to raise the bike up on the lift to work on the rear wheel. item#66907 http://www.harborfreight.com/1-1-2-half-ton-scissor-jack-66907.html With the heavy duty chock you can drive it right up into it and the chock will hold the bike upright allowing you to dismount and be able to tie it down if you want without a helper. There is no room for you to put your feet down or the kick stand and the lift is like 6 inches off the ground so no chance on touching it with your feet. It may be a different story with a tiny honda or Suzuki but my bagger is 800 lbs and takes up the full width of the lift.

here's more with the chock overhang and the trapdoor removed and using the sissor jack.

Oh and one more note, it is heavy and it will be a permanent fixture on your floor. So be prepared to always walk around it. It will roll around but you won't be standing it up against the wall. Mine pretty much takes up half a bay.

I would like to get something like this for lawn tractors and ATV's. Do they make side extensions for it by chance? I saw someone once say yes, but I never did find them.
Do you feel it would be ok to use in that capacity?

Thanks

They used to have 2 or 3 lifts available and one of those did have the sides but in the last year or two I only see this lift that is pictured and it does not have sides. You my be able to fab your own.

Odd, link brings up a 404, and no mention of that item # from them.

The link works for me. The item number is #97807, and it's listed for $12.99 on their website (but it's only available at the store).
