I bounce between the Durham location and Raleigh. Raleigh has it in stock if they say so on the phone. I've learned to ask the Durham store to put their hands on the item while I hold. Raleigh is also a longer drive.

Yet another reason to never venture into Durham for any reason...:lol_hitti

Huge pass. Used it to drill a good 20-25 holes in metal for my praybar/breaker bar holder. Worked amazing!

digital inspection camera

Anyone buy the older digital inspection camera? I think the item number was 66550. It had a removable monitor. Mine didn't work well, lousy image, blurry.

I have one. It isn't the greatest (HF motto?) but I have used it several times to inspect/find things in inaccessible places. In short, I believe I have got my money's worth from it. The battery even still works! :rocker:

Anyone have any experience with the HF Tap & Die sets?
http://www.harborfreight.com/catalogsearch/result?q=Tap+die+set

Apologies if this has been covered, I searched with no luck.

Some are worse than others, not for use on metal, but a few with a lot of patience have been able to use them for light duty.

Not something I would buy from HF due to long gap in time between buying a set and uses all of them. HF stuff needs to be TESTED asap, not later when you need it to work.

Exactly. I have them and first time i "needed" it, it broke with ease. Light duty at best.

I generally use the HF tap and die sets for chasing existing threads, rather than cutting new threads. That said, I have been able to successfully thread mild steel with HF taps every time I tried, but I am very careful, use good thread cutting lube, and take very small "bites" while backing off every 1/4 to 1/2 turn to clear the chips.

I have a small metric set that is pretty cheap, and both SAE and Metric in the large TiN-coated sets in the metal cases. All the sets are close to ten years old.

I needed something to break the nut loose on the crank of a Volvo S60 and last minute I ran to HF and picked up 2 of these 1/2" extension sets so i could use the two long ones to reach outside of the wheel well and bought this 1/2" breaker bar which I wasn't sure would handle having a 5' jack handle added to it.... It took the punishment to loosen the 221 ft lbs nut. I was surprised and very happy. I know they are probably passed a few times in this thread, but def worth it.

both are PASS

Has anyone used the digital battery analyzer? Does it work well? I really don't own any tools from HF but this one intrigued me. With winter coming and batteries getting week I want to test the battery condition BEFORE I install the remote starter. People like to blame the last person who touched the car for any future issues

Stay away from the Thunderbolt batteries. I bought a pack of the AAA ones. They do not last very long at all. Their rechargeable batteries seem fine, though. Rechargeable ones last a lot longer (4 or 5 times longer). For AAA, 17 cents per regular, and $1.50 per rechargeable but they will pay for themselves quickly.

FAIL on the regular ones/PASS on rechargeable.

I know many do not do it, but you are using the method that is correct for all thread cutting. Even with high quality tools.

I haven't used those extensions, but that breaker bar is a beast. I've done some stupid things to it like jumping up and down on it, and it's held up. I almost feel guilty for paying so little for it ($9.00).

I bought both sets, metric and standard. The quality was so poor I returned them after visual inspection in the parking lot. I still want a nice set, but for now I cant afford a quality set.

I wouldnt even use them for thread chasing....There are proper tools specific for chasing existing threads, and they are not the same as standard taps.

I bought the 60 piece set from HF for use on my 20 year old dirtbike. It has worked fine for me and i have not had a single problem with anything breaking. Other than the tap holder.

Blue cart for portable welder and small bottle. Fail. I have a Miller True Blue 173 sitting on it. The wheels on the cart are very light weight and don't roll very well. The frame wobbles quite a bit.

I have a stamped steel mig cart from another source. It was a little floppy too. however since you have a welder.... weld up all the joints. it will stiffen up quite well. mine is much nicer. I suppose I could build my own but I didn't have time ages ago when i got the welder.

Or at very least replace the hardware. 99% sure that's your issue. I have that cart and the wheels are not great, but definitely functional. I would have no issue with someone saying the wheels weren't good enough for them, but in my garage it sits in place so they are fine for now.

One guy was returning his cart when I bought mine and said his was full of rust. I can't say the paint job on mine is perfect, but there was no rust on mine when I unboxed it in the store to check. Haven't checked since putting it together, next time I get it out i'll try to remember.

I bought the little red 4x6 bandsaw (Item #93762) and converted the gimpy assed two wheel system to four casters. The legs collapsed the first time I tried to move it after that! So, I took my Miller 140 and did just what y5e06 did and welded up all the joints and corner brace attachment points. Had to really dial down because the metal was thin! I did NOT attempt to weld the legs directly to the cast iron saw bed!

As far as the mig cart (this one:Item #90305) goes, it's worked fine. I did replace the casters while putting it together. I had to grind down a protruding leg piece, I seem to recall, to make clearance for the cabinet door of the welder. It's even painted a very close shade of blue to my welder! I'm a happy camper!

I bought mine as a markdown because of rust. I paid $10 and it worked out good because I wanted to paint it anyway. I got it home and in one swipe with a putty knife all of the paint came off in one sheet.:lol_hitti

4 piece Pry bar set- PASS #1654
Used them for about a month now and no excessive bending.

2 1/2lb deadblow hammer- PASS #41798
Mostly used for tapping on crank cases on small engines. Works well

6 piece screw driver set- Undecided #47770
Cheap metal, they hold up if you use the right bit size for the job but got em for free with a coupon

4 piece pick set- PASS #66836
$.99 with coupon, cant go wrong there.

Snap ring pliers- Fail #60531
Neat idea but the whole "interchangeable" part just plain *****. Attachments wobble all over making it difficult to use. Poor design but they work

1/2' torque wrench- PASS #239
Accurate and cheap, only 9.99! Used on cylinder heads on a few lawn mowers and a 3cyl kubota motor

I may buy my deep well impact sockets today, if I can find a coupon code that will work. The girl working wasnt my normal go to employee, so I didnt get any help.

A couple months ago, I bought the Propane Torch w/starter (#91037). It fits the propane tank on my grill. I just got around to using it. This one rated both Pass and Fail.

Since it was raining this morning, I thought that I'd pull out the torch and burn the weeds off my brick walkway. I don't use weedkiller because my dog licks everything. The rain keeps me from burning down the neighborhood.

PASS - It's a torch, and it burns things.
FAIL - The starter sparks, but didn't ignite the torch.

Save yourself a few dollars and buy the one without the starter. Use a Bic to (carefully) light the torch.
Mine has always worked great - I use it frequently. I actually bought the non-starting one first and liked it, but upgraded to the self-starter and sold the other. You have to ignite it at a low gas flow then crank it up.

A definite PASS for me.

Ordered the one without the starter, 91033, $23.30 shipped.

Used it today to burn the grass/weeds from the garden so I can rototill.
1st use = PASS. That ****** is hot! Ran it for about an hour with no problem. As to durability, looks well made, time will tell. Only comment would be the wand could be a foot longer. Would keep me further from the flames/smoke.

Anyone here with experience on the 1" belt sanders? Either the one with or without disc. They look to be pretty much the same tool except for the disc.

If you're talking about this one:
http://www.harborfreight.com/1-inch-x-30-inch-belt-sander-2485.html

I'd give it a PASS. Used it for a year or so, think I paid $29 back then. Not very powerful, but it's fine for light sanding, works well for rough sharpening tools, etc. On my second or third belt.

Note that the Grizzly -
http://www.grizzly.com/products/Belt-Sander-1-x-30-/H3140

is the same sander for $59.95, or you can order from Enco and pay $108!

I have the one without the disk and it has worked well for over a year. Sometimes it takes a few seconds to get up to speed but once it does it works fine.
