digital vernier caliper for $15: PASS

Can we get a sticky on this thread? I think we need one of these threads for northern tool also...!

All the cheap china calipers work but they are all ****. The parts inside are junk! Yes they pass but you have never owned a good tool if you think they pass.

You would be fired if you worked for me and brought them into my machine shop or garage.

With that said you are a damn fool if you buy machinist tools form one of the trucks. They are not top quality and you pay two to three times for them over Starrett or other good brand. It is like buying taps, dies and drills form Snap-on. You are a fool if you do. Go to the source and buy them for 60% less or more.

HF has some great deals. 98% of it is pure junk but some things are really good.

I have both versions of the heat guns from Harbor Freight and found them fine for my needs. It's a hot hair dryer- not exactly much that can go wrong. Well, don't use one as a hair dryer, of course!

I got a few years of light use out of the corded orange heat gun before it let the magic smoke out (along with some sparks) in a rather dramatic fashion :shocking: Got my moneys worth out of it but I'll probably upgrade when I replace it.

Has anyone used the X-Y axis cross slide vice, part number 32997? I'll be doing some ghetto **** with polymer on a drill press.

Any body have any experience with either of these motorcycle lifts? I'm thinking that I might be able to adapt one to use with my drag cart.

http://www.harborfreight.com/1500-lb-lightweight-aluminum-motorcycle-lift-60636.html

http://www.harborfreight.com/1500-lb-capacity-atvmotorcycle-lift-60536.html

I have had the 60536 jack for the last year, and it has been good for my Harley with the proper lift adapters required for my specific bike. I have since bought a model specific lift and have listed my HF lift for sale here in the classifieds. If I had an ATV still I wouldnt consider selling it.

Yep, it was a pass for me too. I've used it a dozen times for removing decals and emblems off jeeps, as well as heat shrink on electrical. I'd definitely buy it again.

the HF website shows ones without springs. But the ones i have have springs around the outside as shown:
CAM00278.jpg

Be careful with the spring i have already messed one of them up in a tight spot. haha
Other than that these work great!

the set I bought have no springs. I've used them a handful of times, so far so good.

Well, another home run I'd say. Generally condescending, insulting, and most certainly humorous (without intending to be). Well done sir.

1/3 Horsepower, 3 Gal., 100 PSI Oilless Pancake Air Compressor
Central Pneumatic - Item#95275

I bought this cheap. I waited for the $39.95 deal and then managed to use a 20% coupon. So I really don't have much money in it. I tried it out for airing up the car tires and a couple of contrived jobs, just to see it work. First I have to say it seemed fairly slow coming up to pressure. The first real use for it was re-doing my bathroom. I used it for trimming out with my brad nailer. This is about the level of use I wanted it for. I was working alone so the use was not continuous, but still for several minutes at a time I was fairly heavy on it and then a break while I cut and fitted the next parts. I have to say it worked really well. It kept up with the brad nailer pretty well. While it ran more than a larger unit might it actually did a good job. After finishing that job it went to the tool shed. I noticed it the other day. It is still holding 95 psi after sitting for about 3 months.

I give it a PASS.

I picked one up yesturday, for $40....I need to do some trim work and my 60 gal is currently down....Any updates if these will stand the test of time?

What are +\- on Impact swivels:
1) pin ball with spring
2) without spring
3) traditional cross / universal drive
4) wobble extension

If you are gonna only get one set which one?

Did a search of the thread and didn't see much as far as the Pittsburgh Professional pliers... Any word on these before I spend a bunch of cash on premium pliers? Just for light non-professional use. Linemans, dikes, needlenose, groove-joints?

Generally HF pliers aren't well regarded, combined with the fact many of us got nice ones on deals several months back. Dikes & needle nose at least I would get a name brand, the groove joints (depending on size) channellocks can get pretty cheap.

I have the masterforce brand pliers. Same lifetime warranty. I think I spent like 50-75 on pliers. I like them a lot I just need long reach pliers

I'd skip the pliers, personally. I've checked them out in the store and have yet to see anything that impressed me...even as the price climbs towards USA versions.

MAJOR FAIL !!!

I bought the HF pipe threading kit, needed to thread several pieces of pipe while installing my new Quincey compressor. I have bought a lot of tools from HF that were worth every penny I paid for them but this pipe threading kit is 100 % pure China JUNK! Ratcheting handle slipped the very first time I tried to use it, the 1/2 dies are not ground on the correct taper and tear the first two threads off every time. I kept plenty oil on the threads while trying to cut them, kept the chips cleaned out with a pick and had the same results three times. This kit will be going back to HF for a full refund ASAP!

Get the 6 gal, it's a no brainer with a $99 coupon. Nobody makes a good 3 gal imo. Their 6 is basically the same as the last gen Bostitch one, before they started assembling them in USA again.

HF wrenches, and sockets seem to be OK, as they are made in China or Taiwan. I haven't had a chance to test them yet, but my past experience with tools from India has been very disappointing. They look good, maybe they have improved. Ken.

I bought the side box to put on my SO KR-557, fits good, worth every penny I paid for it. Thinking very seriously about going back and getting another one to hang on the other side. :)

I'm thinking about buying one also... but then I would have to buy more tools to put in it. And then...

I picked one up over the wekend to install some quarter round in my weight room....It would kick on after I did each wall..(room is 12x12 and I put a trim nail in every foot.) It was okay for doing small jobs, but I don't know if you would be able to do a fence or something larger then a small roorm and waiting a few miutes in between it filling up..

Mechanic's Stethoscope
Item#41966

This a a product that HF built their reputation on.

Complete FAIL out of the package.

The threaded rod wouldn't thread into the main piece. (Thread size didn't match)

Then the whole thing snapped in half at the black plastic housing.
