bought the 20 ton press yesterday- #60603 http://www.harborfreight.com/20-ton-h-frame-industrial-heavy-duty-floor-shop-press-60603.html

it's the grey bolt together one. got it for $154 w/coupon. put it together yesterday, went together easy, everything lined up fine. doesn't wobble at all. I used it today to press out some hubs from a set of brake drums, works perfect.

I looked it up on youtube to see how it was reviewed. It got some real good reviews:thumbup:. This guy added a few things to it. :rocker:

Terry, if the HF engine is a knock-off of a Honda, look on ebay for a Honda fuel valve. They are all over ebay. Cheap, too! And faster than HF can get it to you, even if they had it in stock.

Coincidently, I did see a picture of a Honda engine that looked like it had the same fuel valve. Thanks for the tip, that may prove helpful in the future. It would have been nice for HF to tell me that, but if the engine is violating any intellectual property laws anywhere, they won't mention that.

Honda's patents for their GX series engines have long expired. Anybody can make a clone of it short of putting "HONDA" branding on it.

Greenwood propane torch with push button igniter #91037: PASS

Works great for burning weeds between pavers, starting bonfires. I also used it for burning my vegetable garden after frost, to destroy weeds and their seeds. Very loud, so you'll want hearing protection.

anyone have this ? thoughts ? i looked at it in the store looks good to me i need a new one since i half ran my craftsman one over

I have one and it works pretty good and well built.

Only complaints is if one is not careful, one can pinch their triceps, between the wheels and floor. Plus, the wheels, tend to pick up off little chunks, of whatever, off the floor, making the ride a bit bumpy.

maybe this is a common problem.

Otherwise I'm fine with it.

Predator 8hp engine,
I installed this engine on my leaf blower
I started right up on the first pull. After I broke it in I did part of my yard, and did more today. The engine runs great. I have only used it at 3/4 throttle for 4 hours, after the next section I will bring it up a little more. Great engine.

When it comes time to change the oil, I'd be interested to see the color and if there are any metal bits. Just to compare with more mainstream engines.

We have a Predator engine on the feed cart at the farm. I couldn't tell you if there's any metal in the oil because we don't change it and the thing nevertheless continues to go along happily. Probably 200 hours a year, I think this motor is three, maybe four years old now. In my experience they have a tendency to let gas find its way into the oil, but they have a fuel shut off valve, so we just close that when it's not running.

I have one it works great seems to have plenty of torque and a decent trigger. You can also change the selector if youre left handed, which I thought was nice as Im left handed.
The big gripe I have with it is the coating on it is real thin and not durable at all. The first time I used it with out even banging it around of it chipped away more than it should have. I bought a spray can of bed liner and covered the metal parts with that and it seems to be holding up better.

Just an observation on HF. A shop towel is just a shop towel so it's almost impossible to fail the HF towels. They're listing a 50 count bundle in this month's ad at $12.99 which is "31%" off regular price but if you compare it to Lowe's everyday price of $5.98 for 24, I don't bother waiting for the sale price nor do I have to drive across town. Seems the great deals at HF are becoming fewer and far between. Matter of fact, the last two or three power tools I've purchased came from Lowes because the pricing was comparable and if I had to return it (which almost never happens at Lowes), I didn't have to worry about haggling with HF. The same can be said for a lot more of HF's items but I think you get the point......be a smarter shopper to get the best value for your time and money.

44" top and bottom tool cabinet PASS best thing I ever got there.
older model 1/2" Earthquake impact wrench PASS
siphon pump (***** because it wouldn't) FAIL
Lawn tractor lift would not lift (bad bottle jack) FAIL May try again, many good reviews.
Bathroom scale FAIL but replacement has worked well for years PASS
Kitchen scale PASS
Magnetic disposable glove box holder for side of tool box PASS
Magnetic towel roll holder for side of tool box PASS
Dead blow hammer PASS
Impact sockets, the chrome moly ones PASS
Hex bit sockets, inch. PASS
Socket rails FAIL
Inflatable tire caster FAIL
Silver and Deming large turned down drill bits PASS
Disk brake piston screw back set PASS
Safety face shield and safety glasses PASS

Obviously the non existent QC and product support contributes to the low prices. Some products are just junk but others are a good deal if you didn't get a bad one and are willing to exchange the reject, if you did. You are the QC department. They have never hassled me about a return. That is the way they do business. Take it or leave it.

Okay obviously there is no assembly required here :D but I got both the drawer liner roll 2 sets and the lower cabinet part storage trays after picking up a Craftsman roll away this afternoon. Nothing similar Sears had compared in price and the HF liners were on sale @ 7.99 and the organizer reg. price $7.99. Plus 20% off and "free" item so all in all a good deal and screw the points lol!

I give them both a pass. Though I may have to do something to brighten up the those black impact extensions sitting in the black trays for these old eyes :lol_hitti

I have lots of HF tools but I think this is my first post in this thread so I'm gonna go through everything I have that I can remember.

8 Pc Professional Screwdriver Set PASS. These are great. The coating on the end wears off after a while, but they're very strong and I don't have any problems after a couple of years.

Chrome Sockets PASS. Haven't had a problem with any of the sockets. 1/4in, 3/8in, 1/2in. I've used them in impacts here and there and they're still holding up fine.

Metric Hex Socket Set PASS. I got this set because I needed a 14mm for a BMW differential drain plug. I haven't used it beyond that, but they seem fine enough. The whole set at HF is about the price of just the 14mm elsewhere.

100 Piece Security Bit Set PASS. These bits don't hold up super well, but you don't need most security bits that often and it comes with pretty much everything you need. Can't beat it for the price. One small complaint: I got this out to disassemble an Apple laptop, but it doesn't have a bit for the Apple proprietary screws.

11 in Long Reach Pliers (blue handle) PASS. I really like these pliers. The teeth strip fairly easily so I've had trouble trying to use them on, say, hard to reach hose clamps. But they're great for the price and I still use them a lot.

1/2 in Breaker Bar PASS. Like everyone else has said, works totally fine.

3 Ton Low Profile Rapid Pump Jack PASS. I picked this one up with the coupon almost a year ago. It takes more pump that it said it should, but no problems with it.

30 in Service Cart with Locking Drawer PASS. This is a great cart, although if I had to do it again I'd probably just spend the extra $80 or so to get the red 5 drawer cart instead.

Torque Wrenches PASS. No problems with these. Just be careful with them, be sure to unwind them after use and don't drop them, etc.

Heat Gun PASS. Works fine, gets hot quick. I've only used it to melt shrink wrap.

Multipurpose Scissors PASS. These are a great choice for the free item, they're not the best scissors but they work fine. I don't know if I'd pay for them, but a great choice for the free coupon.

40 Piece Socket Set PASS. This is the junky set in the blue box. None of it is very good, but it's like $5. It's a great choice to give to somebody to keep around the house or if you need some extra sockets to keep in a vehicle, etc.

3 Piece 1/2 In Impact Flip Socket Set PASS. I got these on sale. They work fine, and it's convenient to only keep 3 sockets and have every size I need for wheels. I don't know if I'd go out of my way to get these at full price, but if you see them on sale it's a much better deal.

4 Piece Hook and Pick Set PASS. I have 4 or 5 sets of these, no complaints with them.

Yellow Trim Tools PASS. No problems with these. I haven't tried the blue ones, but I'm guessing they're fine too. They definitely work better than using a screwdriver or something.

Oil Filter Pliers PASS. Used them on hundreds of oil filters, no issues.

6 Piece Detail Brush Set PASS. These brushes don't really hold up super well, but for a couple bucks they're great to have around. Use them to clean out throttle bodies and all kinds of stuff, they work fine and if they start to wear out just get another one.

13 Piece Left Hand Drill Bits PASS. I haven't used these tons of times, but they work great when I've used them to remove broken screws.

4 Piece Pry Bar Set PASS. No complaints.

5 Piece File Set PASS. I just got these so I can't speak to how long they'll last, but they worked fine for what I needed.

12 Piece Precision File Set PASS. Same as above.

Hex Keys PASS. No issues.

Yellow Handled Hand Riveter PASS Got this to rivet in a Mercedes window regulator. Worked fine...the rivets that come with it aren't great, but the riveter itself was fine.

Fully Polished Combo Wrenches PASS. No problems with these. I mainly use a set of Craftsman raised panel, but when I have used these they've been fine. Can't beat the price.

Now for the bad:

Pistol Grip Blow Gun FAIL. This is the blow gun with the plastic handle and the long nozzle. I used it two or three times before the air fitting blew off and the gun shot across the shop. Definitely do not buy this one. I got the smaller metal blow gun and haven't had any issues with that one.

8 In Professional Diagonal Cutters FAIL. The tips chipped off pretty quick after I got it. Still cuts fine, but I'm gonna give it a fail since part of it broke so quickly.

Soldering Iron FAIL. This is the cheap black soldering iron. It works fine if you just need to solder a wire here and there, but the tips burn up so fast that it gets really hard to use and ends up doing more harm than good. Don't even bother trying to use this to desolder something on a printed board, for example. Not bad to have in a pinch, but if you're gonna need to use it more than a few times then just get a good one.

4" Belt / 6" Disc Sander - Massive fail

Motor mount / Disc face was off 3-4 degrees, the belt wanted to walk off. The table / rest mount was even further off as was the belt guard. Fixable? Probably but my time is worth more than that.

Yeah, I got one of those from somewhere one time. Sort of usable for sharpening wood chisels and what not but totally useless for accurately shaping anything.

I wound up getting one of the 1" belt/5" disc sanders. lighter duty but the little table adjustments are much more accurate and easily made. I got the micro mark brand but the HF one ( item#69033) is probably just a good. Once you have one of these you'll probably find yourself using it in liew of the bench grinder a lot because the heat build up is slower and more controllable.

Huh, I like mine. I did a whole staircase full of spindles and all the stair bull-noses on it. I only used the belt portion, I didn't use the disk. The only problem I have with it is the motor is kinda weak on the startup. When I flip the switch, sometimes it just hums and I have to give the belt a push to start it. Other than that, I used the hell out of it without any other issues.

I bought one a few months ago on sale. I used it for the first time last week to trim and clean up some metal I was working with.

The working surfaces needed to be aligned, no big deal. The mounting positions are adjustable.
The track of the bend needed to be adjusted, no big deal. There is an adjustment for track.
The motor had a hard time starting the first few times I turned it on, but that corrected itself.

I really like the machine, after set up it worked perfectly. PASS.

8x12 wood lathe $129. Got it couple weeks ago. Survived a day of light use before motor wouldn't spin to speed. Warrantied it has lasted three days with more use per day. Extended review to come as time goes on. One thing though, the tailstock when you put the lock screw thing in make sure the slot on the taper that holds the center is facing up and screw is in it.

$28 more would have gotten you the 10 X 18 lathe (65345). Catch it on sale..... $149 + 6.99 shipping.

Mine has been trouble free, and a lot of people I know of have had very good success with it.

One thing I can recommend for any tool that has bushings, bearing or gears, take them apart and lube them. It makes a big differance. Seems manufacturers are saving money by not applying lube of any sorts.

I've been eyeing those lathes. I've got an old homemade lathe my great-grandfather used to use, I've been meaning to try it out sometime but if it gives me too much trouble I might look at those HF lathes.

My HF PASS lately has been the drill press vise clamps. I use them with the pre-drilled holes in my welding table for clamping and fixturing. Cheap with the coupon and work great. Only thing I've had to do is replace the adjusting bolt with longer ones if I need it for clamping 1/4" or less stock to the table.
