This is terrific! https://www.harborfreight.com/3-4-quarter-inch-forged-ball-joint-separator-99849.html
3/4 in. Ball Joint Separator Pittsburgh® Automotive - item#99849
It is very strong and has been used multiple times and ALWAYS got the job done. PASS

Bought this set,
Disc Brake Pad and Caliper Service Tool Kit 11 Pc Maddox - item#63264 now rebranded as Maddox to work on VW rear calipers.
https://www.harborfreight.com/disc-brake-pad-and-caliper-service-tool-kit-11-pc-63264.html A nice set. PASS

I have had a couple of these:
12V 100 PSI High Volume Air Compressor Pittsburgh® Automotive - item#69284 https://www.harborfreight.com/12v-100-psi-high-volume-air-compressor-69284.html They will inflate about 1 1/2 deflated tires at a decent rate and then the thermal cutoff will shut off the inflator. FAIL - anyone have a better recommendation for a portable tire inflator?

We have an SAE set in our track toolbox for our Sprint Car. Works fine, but since the thing is completely disassembled every winter, we don't have crusty, rusty fasteners to deal with.

I've searched a bit, but does anyone have any comments on the welding storage cabinet? Current coupon makes it $149.

This cabinet - https://www.harborfreight.com/welding-cabinet-61705.html

I was going to build one myself, but honestly the raw materials will likely cost more than this...

I like it for my home use. Drawers aren't quite as nice as the red 5 drawer tool carts everyone loves, but they're still nice. I only have a Lincoln 125 and I'm not running shielding gas, ended up using the tank space for a 5 gallon bucket to hold scrap metal. Bought this one so it can grow with me when/if I get into using shielding gas in the future.

How is the reel itself? Mine's kinda clunky but it works as it should. The hose seems fine after a year.

I'm on my 4th year with the reel and have no complaints. I try to be gentle with it when retracting to avoid stripping out the ratcheting mechanism it has, but works awesome hung from the rafters in my garage. I too had the red rubber hose crack out fairly quick, replaced it with their green PVC/rubber hybrid and it is holding up a lot better in the Northern Nevada desert.

Got 'em... Like 'em.

Full story.... I'd been looking for a set of ball ends that a garage mate had.... Craftsman of some vintage.

Couldn't find anything like them for the longest time when I found this set with the rack so I said what the heck.

I've got the rack mounted to my tool board above my bench with some spacers to make it angled out and have had no problems with them. I was worried that they'd be soft but they are showing no signs of being so.

Not heavy use... motorcycle maintenance and working on a bench top Mill that I'm modding which involves lots of cap screws.

They are sized properly too.

They are showing no signs of being any problem.

Here's a picture when I was setting up the tool board...

I know it's rarely used, but when I'm sitting on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere, I don't want to guess whether my compressor will run long enough to get me back on the road...I'd rather spend a few more bucks and have something I know will work.

Thanks for the input on the hex wrenches. I think for $12.99 I'll give them a shot. They are on sale plus I'll use the coupon.

Sorry I don't have the packaging anymore or I'd give you the item number.

I know how HF sources from various vendors and that some times quality can vary.

To clarify... I wanted ball ends. I could find plenty of sets at decent prices with straight ends but I've been spoiled by the ball ends.

When you need them you need them.

Piecing together a set of ball ends individually was going to get expensive in a hurry... Plus none of them came with a stand.

Now I value good tools and the quality of these is actually close to the Allens and Craftsmans that I looked at.

The $19.99 drill driver (18v niCd) seems like a good drill, but only able to use it twice before the charger burned up !:flamethro

The transformer/AC adapter looks way under sized for an output of 24Vdc at 0.4 amps.

HF xformer.jpg

I'm planning on using the new battery cells out of the Harbor Freight unit to get this old war horse working again.

HF. Can't locate replacement drawer latches for my 56" 8 drawer tool box. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

JerryH

I also have the 56" (top and bottom) with a couple of broken latches so I'm interested in this as well. If they can't be purchased through HF or sourced elsewhere I'll likely remove all of mine. The drawers shut well and hold fine without them for my uses.

Nothing fancy.

Had some nylon spacers that kick the bottom out about an inch.

Drywall screws through the large top holes and inboard of the bends on the lower side. 467259249a5227dc1243e598b0351b86.jpg

I have used them and they lock up fine. Can't speak to the weight capacity or corrosion resistance but they feel secure.

Can I ask a favour of someone?

I have a coupon for the 20T Shop Press and plan on purchasing 1 next month in NH (save on the sales tax), but unsure of the packaging size. This will play into which vehicle we take (Pontiac Montana or my pick up).

If you're in a store, could you see if there is a boxed press ITEM 32879/60603 & measure it? It would be greatly appreciated.

TIA!

If I recall correctly, 60603 is a 3 box set, the other a 2 box set. I definitely recommend the 60603 if you have a choice.

What do you guys w/ the blasting cabinets do for replacement acetate? I recall we had them for the blasting cabinets we had @ work, but haven't been able to find them @ HF or know where to find them elsewhere.

I just bought a roll of it on amazon and ended up using double sided tape to keep it on the underside of the window.

Some stuff i've bought that's a "pass"
1)hammers..no problem
2) punches and chisel set...i was using these to separate spot welded metal so it did the trick there
3) sandblast cabinet. Its held up for 6-7 years now
4) vacuum pump. I use it for vacuum bagging composites for about 7 years on one pump. Not too shabby.
5) razor blades, gloves and brushes...these are all one time use and toss them, so they're a pass
6) sidegrinder. Awesome. I've had mine for 10 years without issues...although the power cord rubber has started to crack
7) midsized mill/drill. Great machine. I've had it a long time
8) aluminum jack. Works well and i've had it forever

Fails:
1) sandpaper...its like kids made these in kindergarten with construction paper, gluesticks and playground sand...complete garbage
2) cutoff wheels. I thought these were a decent deal, but the ones i buy at other hardware stores seem to last FOREVER compared to the HF ones.
3) Rotary cutting tool. I have to press the reset button every 5 seconds...completely useless
4) 7x10 mini lathe. Junk. The gears stripped themselves in about an hour. I might have gotten a returned one and not known it. I really wanted to like this
5) drill bits...these might be pieces of gold painted tin. Don't try to drill any steel with these
6) wirestripper/crimper: the crimper handle bent after the 5th crimp

20 Ton Log Splitter - PASS

I was really hesitant to buy this but I had an ash disaster with 18-20" sections laying all over the place, a buddy who needed work, and the intention to install a wood stove. My buddy got it going and did all the work but it seemed to work well. Then it sat for 2 years. Today it started on the 3rd pull. I changed the oil, topped off the hydraulic fluid, and went to work. So help me, the thing was marvelous. I never used a one before so I have nothing to compare to. I don't know how long it will last or how available parts are but I think I'll get my money's worth out of it.

I have a back injury so there's a very low limit to how much I can split with an maul.

4-1/4" angle grinder - failed, but i'd buy another.
https://www.harborfreight.com/4-1-2-half-inch-angle-grinder-with-paddle-switch-65519.html

I bought this grinder last year, on sale for $19.95. I've used the daylights out of it. It's worked flawlessly until a couple days ago. I was using it to clean an old anvil and working it very hard. It got so hot I could barely hold it. Eventually it started to cut out and quit. I should have let it cool down, but didn't. The autopsy revealed that one of the plastic brush holders had overheated and disintegrated.

So it failed, but I have to take a lot of blame for it. But if it comes on sale for $19.95 again, i'll probably pick up another. Hard to beat at that price.

I just bought the 1250 lb wheel dollys with the mechnical ratchet lift and they are a definite pass. We had the old style cradles with the metal casters and they were awful so I was hesitant but I used them to move two cars over the long weekend and I couldn't have done it without them. I even used them up on the trailer and down the ramp since I had a seized brake drum. Probably saved me hours of time. I was able to move the cars around by myself on these.

96677 Air Vacuum Pump with R134A and R12 Connectors - SEMI-PASS

This pump worked great through 5 A/C recharges, but I dropped it on it's air hose fitting and it broke inside at the plastic threads. So, if you need one for one or two uses, CHEAP and good to use. Otherwise, get the 2.5CFM electric pump.

How long did it take to pull down close to 30" ?

Same here. I bought one on sale and have used the bejesus out of it. During one project it got almost too hot to hold like in your situation and even started smoking. I thought it was toast. Let it cool down and it finished that project like a champ and has done another pretty taxing project since then as well as multiple more minor uses. It's quite a workhorse. With that said, I did find some Porter Cable grinders on sale on Amazon a while back so stocked up on those for when my HF finally dies.

Maybe the trick is to buy 3 of the $15 grinders on sale for $10 each, and just rotate them out as they overheat... ;)

I actually had 3 grinders. An old Craftsman, the HF and an old Dewalt 402 - all are 6 amp grinders. I keep each set up for different uses. After the HF died a few days ago I decided I needed one that was a but more powerful for heavy work. So after reading up on them, I went to Lowes and picked up an 11 amp Dewalt for around $85 with military discount. Really nice! The next time I see the HF 65519 on sale for under $20, I'll pick up another. I'd like to have 4 grinders, each set up for a purpose: cupped wire wheel, flap disc, grinding disc and cut off disc. They are well worth $20.

#61477 Pittsburgh Oil Filter pliers--SEMI-PASS
https://www.harborfreight.com/oil-filter-pliers-61477.html

Had to change hydraulic filters on the tractor today. I didn't have an oil filter wrench that would fit them so I stopped at HF on the way home and picked up a pair of these filter pliers. They passed in that they did break the filters loose, but after cleaning everything up and putting all the tools back in my box, I saw that the smaller jaw was slightly bent and offset from the larger jaw. It's not that big a deal as the tractor is the only thing I need them for and won't be using them that often.

I just looked at the HF site and there is a $19.99 coupon for the #65519 grinder again. I'll head over tomorrow and pick up another one.

Hey, I'm still using the $15 unit I got on sale for $10; you have to stop and let it cool down after a while, but my idea to solve that is to just buy a couple more of them!

You can't have too many of them. Buying another will bring me up to four angle grinders (2 Dewalts, a craftsman and this HF). I hate having to stop and change tooling in the middle of a job. I have one set up with a cupped wire wheel, one with a grinding disc, one with a flap wheel and the last with either a cut off disc or stripping pad. I really need one more, for a total of 5.

That's a neat idea; I could get 5 of those cheap HF units for $50 :)
