Jeremy: should i be saving my galvanized pipe and fittings i don't need for my gas lines for your cool projects? say the word and i'll start packing a box and looking for some at sales.

love the thinking involved in making your little projects.

keep up the good work.

i noticed your avatar changed from the old car you sold to your Reed vise. did you get some machines to fill the space yet or are you enjoying parking 2 cars in your garage?

cheers(ITFM)

Drives: yes any fittings either galvanized or black iron in either 1/2" 3/4" or 1" NPT would be awesome. I use a lot of elbows T's, Crosses. I also use a ton of short pipe ******* I would say most of the stuff I use is under 2" long. So if you have some to spare of anything black iron pipe related I could find a use for it. Also I am always looking for cool bases so large gears or cool wood pieces are appreciated as well.

As for the lamps this is the latest one I've finished for one of my best buddies.

Drives: Thanks so much. As for the extra space in the garage it has been taken up with equipment I am storing for a friend as well as Lamp parts so right now there are no cars in the garage but come fall. My wife will be back in the garage for winter. My new truck will never live in a garage.

Jeremy: NEW TRUCK??? do tell and as said before without pictures it didn't happen so post them up. not sure why some guys hide their license plates in their truck and car pics, but do so if you want to, but truck pictures are a must if you let the green machine head down the road.

i'll let you know as i get some pipe and fittings for you in a box.

cheers (ITFM)

Drives: the truck is nothing fancy just a 2007 Ford F-150 extended cab. Has enough room for the whole family bigger bed and FWD so a lot more capable than my old Tacoma. Hopefully it will be as reliable as my taco was.

As for other happenings a friend from work asked for a few lamps so this is the one I made for her girls room. I call him scuba man.

This is going to be a set of wall scones for my in-laws house. I'll make a chandelier to match as well.

Thank rubber rodder: I'll keep posting pictures as I have them to post. I have been really busy it seems the lamps are taking up most of my free time these days. But that is ok I am enjoying making them so it doesn't feel like it takes too much time.

Here are some simple ones I made for my sister recently.

Thanks metal head. I keep working on them and have a few in process now. Thought I would share them. I also recently started a website if people wanted to get more information on them specifically.

1/2 cup: specifically I use this type.

Milwaukee 49-56-0505 1/4" Diamond O...p/B00L0CWGMM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_Vn5Kxb4Y1036T

Also that shot may look like mass production but it is actually only 4 sconces and a chandelier for my in-laws.

Pig: thanks for your kind words. It is a little silly how much I am enjoying it.

Thank you Jeremy.

Never silly when you are doing some thing you enjoy.

What sparked my interest aside from the fact the you are doing a great job, HOTFR8 kindly gave me some High Voltage Insulators

These will become light fixtures down the track as well.

1/2 cup. Only two projects at a time. Come on standard garage journal procedure is to have at least 8, 3 of which are impossible to complete with out some sort of unobtainium.

Progress continues on "the in-lawdelier" and "the Jacqueline" wall scones. I have one more sconces to go and it is giving me absolute fits. I'll get there but for now it is making me crazy.

Jeremy :lol_hitti

When I say there is only two projects the West Wing consists of 20 odd sub projects so I do meet the criteria on that score.

Great work, as usual.

Hi Jeremy,

I love this thread!!! I learned something new today, I did not know that you could drill glass. I am also an engineer (EE), so I can totally relate to your projects and your approach.

Your lamp projects are great!!!

The beds you made for your kids are simply fantastic!!! I like the pickup truck bed the most. I mentioned it to my wife and kids last night. I like the way your deck turned out and especially that your boys helped. I can tell that you are a great father!!!

Keep up the fine work!
Joe

Wow Joe; thank you so much, your praise is not only very flattering but somewhat humbling as well. My boys love their beds but my oldest has started asking for something different, like a loft bed. As for the deck we love it. Thanks so much to all for following along. Sorry it took me a little while to respond we when on a two day camping trip this weekend in a pretty remote area and we are just getting back into the swing.
I'll post pictures once I download them from my big camera, no cell phones when camping is the family rule.

I have also been making industrial pipe lights. It started when we were re-doing our family room and realized that any fixture we liked was going to cost us a total of $1500 or so because we needed at least 7 of them.

Most are single lights but here is the double. The wood is from a wall we took down.

That looks great Lane. That is exactly what motivated me. We we remodeling a bathroom and wanted to get a new fixture but the stuff we liked was so expensive I couldn't do it so I just decided to build my own. Speaking of which I am working on a new one for the kitchen right now.

Drives thanks for checking in. I have been delinquent posting recently and I am sorry for that.

To answer your question no I haven't finished the big red vise yet. Actually my whole welding table is still a work in progress. I have all the pieces and parts together it just lacks a little final assembly to complete.

I have been doing several more lamps for friends and a few for home. The most recent was this one for he breakfast nook at my house.

Very nice lights. Really like the little desk lamp. Your little shop buddy is cute. Reminds me of the old Tampa Electric logo, light bulb head with lightning bolt arms & legs.

p.s. 1/2 Cup with more than two projects, never.

Guys. I did the needed wall repairs and hung the final wall sconce about a week ago.

It's to the far right in this shot.

b044f35d62e196a184346be4d7124996.jpg

My mother-in-law liked the scones and lights so much she asked for a set of 4 and a chandelier for her home. I will be starting on those soon.

My wife wanted a new table lamp for or family room so I came up with this little guy.

f5203d0e75539cbbd941fe884b559bee.jpg

e3c68eabd39111da6fe1d33021c4866a.jpg

And then this one jumped into my head when I was at the salvage shop and saw the fender light.

It doesn't have a home yet but I like it so maybe I'll hang onto it.

The neck is a microphone stand that I converted and the wiring is new but the rest is from the salvage shop.

A friend from work liked the lights and asked for me to create something for her so I came up with this.

I have 3 standing orders for more of these. I am starting to think this might be a side business.

Hope you all like them. It is super fun to make them.

Very cool! How are you attaching the insulator glass to the pipe?

Overkill: thanks for the kind words. As for your question. I drill a hole in the glass insulators and just put a piece of lamp pipe through that attaches to the light socket on one end and a custom adapter on the other. It just so happens that lamp pipe 1/8 IPS and 1/4 IPS dates back to the days of gas lamps. So it has the same threads and pitch as pipe threads just not tapered so they thread together. Hope that answers your question.

I definitely think you have a side business there. Price them right so you make profit and sell quickly. Marketing avenues would not only be online but consignment shops and I think even some antique stores.
Any of us could buy pipe fittings and power cord but you have a good creative eye for designing the final shape. Any thought to experimenting with other paint colors than black on the piping?

Rmalkow2: thanks for the kind words and encouragement. I have been really enjoying making the lamps and hope to continue for some time to come. As for colors I am happy to paint them however the buyer chooses. The one for my in-Laws is actually a chocolate brown color.

a6accdc4022835814ba4e031e65c714c.jpg

The one I just hung in my breakfast nook does look black but was a grey metallic. Maybe it can be seen here.

958fd18b6c63e571650ff624c9995bfe.jpg

Every other one I have done to date has been pipe as found. So some black iron some galvanized and a fair number rusted.

Hope that answers your question. Cheers, Jeremy.

I just finished up another one for a friend at work. I think she said it was going to be a gift for a cousin that just had a baby boy. So it has two flickering thunderbolt night lights.
