the hole in the floor

Hi,

Im going to be putting my lift in the floor and was wandering about what you have been using to put over the hole where the lift is when it is not in use?

It must be able to support at least 1500 kg as I will have cars parked over it and i must not be so heavy as it is impossible to move

I was thinking in the lines of a steel frame with some kind of metal plate - but any input will be much appreciated.

I think the question is confusing some here. Most lifts are 2 or 4 post lifts that are floor mounted and permanently installed. Are you referring to a recessed, single cylinder lift?

It really depends on how low the lift will be. Steel is always a good option, but if the area to fill is not that much, then thick plywood or dimensional lumber may be acceptable to make the floor level.

Do you have any pictures of the lift you are considering and how it will look when not in use?

Thanks for the reply Wingnut65. It's a scissorlift. I'll try to take a picture later.

I have now purchased a steelplate as I think that might be the best option as it does not take up to much space which means the hole can be shallow giving me the maximum working hight.

Heavy Metal!!

So a very important bit of kit got home yesterday. I opted for a steelplate to cover the whole when I (eventually) get the sissorlift into the floor.
I did not think it would be this heavy but luckily I only need about 25% of it.

It might need a bit of paint

The top of the lift is not flat. Its a scissorlift with 4 lifting points. You can see it here:
