Here are a few pics of the garage that I built last year. I call it The Hot Rod Grille, as it is home to my '34 Ford street rod and '70 454-LS5 Corvette roadster. The retro-themed garage is 1350 sq. ft. and features a fully functional 1955 soda fountain, jukeboxes, pinballs and slot machines. The garage is still a work in progress, with several more neon signs and gas pumps to be added later this year. Thanks for looking.

How much do you charge for a vanilla milkshake?

Great place you have there. How long have you been collecting stuff?

Thanks for your comments. I've been collecting for over 30 years. It all started with a set of oil bottles purchased at the Hershey fall AACA meet in 1971. My first coin-op purchase was in the early 1980's. I've been planning the garage in my mind for over 10 years and started actual construction on it in March 2004. The "house special" is root beer floats, but stop by if you're ever in the area and I'll whip up a vanilla shake for you.

Thanks for the offer. It is interesting you mention the 1971 Hershey meet. I was there for my only visit to Hershey in 1971.

Thanks guys for all of the nice comments! MacTexas, that's a really sweet looking '34 sedan you've got! bje31, Winfield is located midway between Charleston and Huntington, so I am about 2 1/2 hours from Morgantown. Definitely let me know if you are going to be in the area. One of the best parts of having a garage is having folks stop by.

Jim,

Your garage is awesome. I am going to tell a friend of mine about these photos. This should give him some great ideas. He just finished his house which has a walkout basement. He is doing the whole basement in a 50's theme. He installed double french doors so he can drive his 1960 Corvette in there and put it on display, along with some other automobilia and petrolania.

You have a lot of time and money invested in a great place. Nice job.
Is Big Boy still in buiseness?
Your place kind of reminds me of the show "Happy Days".

awesome garage Jim!!!!

A mutual friend of ours (Dave V., I work with him at the Tech Center) actually told me about your garage a couple of months ago, I could only imagine what it looked like, actually his discription is quite good. He was impressed by the theme and cars.

Guys,

Thanks for all of the nice comments about The Hot Rod Grille. There was a question about where I work on my cars. Actually, that's one of the main reasons for the 4-post lift. I've done quite a bit of work on the '34 right where you see it sitting in the pics! In recent years I replaced the gas tank and fuel lines, exhaust system, radiator, water pump, hoses/ belts, installed an AC system from Hot Rod Air, and installed a hidden stereo system. Last year, I dismantled the car in the garage to get it ready for a trip to the body/paint shop. After it was painted, it came back to the garage for reassembly. When I'm getting ready for a project, I put heavy plastic sheeting on the floor to catch the gas, oil, anitfreeze, brake fluid, etc. When the job is finished, I throw down some "kitty litter" to absorb the liquid and roll up the plastic sheet for disposal. No, I don't grind, weld, sand or paint in the Hot Rod Grille, but still manage to do a fair amount of work in there, plus it's been home to some great parties. If you're ever in my area, feel free to stop by and visit!

That is an awesome garage. Spent 20mins just reading all the signs in your pics. Love the Big Boy, use to eat in them off the NJ Turnpike back in my teamster days.

Keep it up and how about a few more pics if you have any.
