makes perfect sense to me, what are you getting at? Of course it's limited. Go cut a Craftsman/Mac/Proto/Snap-On/etc. ratchet in half lengthwise with a torch and see if they'll warranty it.

Agreed. Of course it has to be limited.

First sentence tells you it has a lifetime warranty.
Last one clarifies that there may be limits to the warranty. ie in case of abuse etc.

My take on the "limited" part of this warranty might apply to a remedy of a defective ratchet, and "limit" their (those offering the warranty) obligation.

As an example of my thoughts-- Currently with all of moving of manufacturing to different countries, say a Mac ratchet that I bought in 1971 is to be replaced under warranty with one made in China, am I going to accept it as equal value of my original? If not what are my Rights under my Mac warranty?

Ive probably not conveyed what Im try to say very well, but some open end warranties (in mt opinion) leave the one offering the warranty in a very precarious position-- Maybe offering a cash refund, if the item is no longer available? How much cash? 1971 dollars?

Im not trying to imply Mac ratchets are imported. its just a fictional scenario, but in all seriousness it does concern me that I may have to accept an import tool for a replacement for an American. It may be great Im not sure.

Has anyone here actually swapped one? I've read one horror story over the years (only person I ever heard swap one), and wondered about it a few years ago, when the air tools were mistakenly marked with Lifetime warranty (considered getting some for home use).

I can't stand husky tools, but thats just me, I'd rather go HF's pittsburgh than husky.
But thats just me. If you ever see me at HD buying husky beat me over the head.

Their AC's looks interesting, but their toolboxes are worst than craftsman.

Home Depot has poor warranty service. I returned a Husky ratchet, it was the one that had the "micro" head. After some VERY light use after a few weeks, it no longer would catch.

I took it back to swap, and it wasn't like Sears where you just hand them the old one and grab a new one. The customer service guy gave me the whole "I'm not supposed to do this, but I will this one time"

That's soured me on Husky tools since (I rarely bought their tools anyway) If that's the grade of tool you want, get Craftsman, it's just about the same price. Easier to warranty and still made in the US.

Great for measuring tapes! Since sears backed out on on that warranty now. As of late the seem to be stocking a Danaher usa made ratchet. Looks like the same guts as craftsman. I think they switched suppliers as a new line of ratchets showed up a few months back. Never had a problem at depot. I warranty Klein tool quite often. Sometimes it is a hassle but it always gets done.

In rtefrence to the original poster. I think you misread it. It says lifetime warranty then that it has limits. Nothing confusing or fizzy about it.

By the way, LOTS of, if not ALL of MAC ratchets are IMPORTED.

OK so appreciate the info clarifying the warranty wording .That all makes good sense.
As far as the husky bashing I have no intention of buying a complete set of husky tools especially after the class action suit I heard about. However if I did buy a individual ratchet or any too for that matter that didnt have the stature of a snap-on matco bluepoint or easco for less then moderate use to be kept in a truck toolbox for I SAY AGAIN less then moderate use or roadside work or assistance. I see no harm . but thats just me.

I went in with a flex head extending 3/8" ratchet a few months ago, they did not have the ratchet alone but it was in a set. They would not open the set but they did call in and get a new ratchet shipped to me, it came in about 4 days and was branded stanley. I have horror stories about trying to swap out screwdrivers though. They told me that I would have to send it in, they also gave me a number to call, I went home and called the number and was instructed to take my broken screwdriver to my local Home Depot. I had to force the Home Depot manager to call the number himself.

The husky warranty service has taken a real nose dive in service since the days when they would swap a new Husky tool for almost any other US brand that was broken. My closet Home Depot has little warranty pamphlets by the few remaining Husky tools that have a 1-800 number to call. The warranty is very limited these days.
Honestly, for truck/roadside tool sets, I don't think you can beat Craftsman for ease of warranty service, price, and availability but, that's just me.

I feel so badly for the people who invested in Husky or traded in their Craftsman tools for them back when Home Depot was pushing hard on that line of tools. Seemed to make sense, price was about the same and Home depots were everywhere and was clearly a stronger company. Plus the tools seemed as nice or nicer than Craftsman. Who would have guessed that Home Depot would leave those folks high and dry. That stinks.

On the bright side Stanley takes care of their customers and most of the Husky line was Stanley. Nowdays they are sourced from wherever and it is a nightmare I would think if you have the non Stanley stuff.

To hell with Husky! Home depot really screwed people who took a chance and "invested" in that line.

wow, i have never had an issue. have broke stuff, walked in and they would send me back to the tools to get a new one. if it was in a set they would just open the set and hand me a new one. no questions asked. so much better then crapsman. the only issue i have had is if they dont carry the item anymore, if that happens i would have to call HD and they would just ship me a new one. And this is two different HDs i have shopped at.

I, too, have never seen a HD without Husky stock. What makes you think they're going away, Jbullfrog?

All of the sockets, ratchets, and wrenches at all of my local Home Depot's now take up about a total of 5 linear feet of wall display space. No single sockets, mostly sets of everything. I stopped buying Husky after the PITA return of a GearWrench type flex head. Nobody on the floor wanted to open a set. I told them this is why I will only buy from Sears from now on.

Home Depot is the best place to shop for lots of things, but tools, not unless its some kind of insane deal like the Bosch closeout last year.

My father left me a 1/4" Husky ratchet #20202. Anybody know if a rebuild kit is available?
Hate to just throw it away.

I, too, have never seen a HD without Husky stock. What makes you think they're going away, Jbullfrog?

HD has vastly different stores. I used to live near one in downtown L.A., and it was a total nightmare. Day laborers would come into the store and try and take your cart through the checkout line for you (so you would pay them to load your stuff). The employees don't care about anything, and neither does management. I once called the corporate "customer comment" line, and got a woman to listen to my complaints. She didn't believe me, so she called the store manager. He hung up on her.

The one in Emeryville (Oakland) is better, but it still *****. The one in Reno is staffed by super friendly, helpful, smart people.

For a while, I switched from buying Craftsman hand tools (because they just aren't that good any more) to Husky. Then I noticed that Husky kept changing styles and their shelf space was getting smaller and smaller. They don't even carry the same tools any more.

I gave up on Husky, unless there's a really great deal on closeout.

A few times I asked the tool clerk at Lowes what the return policy on their Kobalt tools was. They didn't know, and had to ask the manager. The manager said I had to save receipts or mail them back to Kobalt.

t just makes me happy that I have most of the hand tools I'll ever need.

I broke some old husky that was made by new britain and I called them up and they sent me replacements because I was a husky customer... They didn't want the broken stuff back... I might not buy any of the new stuff, but I think they did a great job replacing the stuff, and it was easier then getting my snap on stuff fixed. I still think I should buy more of Husky tools as I do like the dogs a lot.

Duralast tools at Autozone have a lifetime warranty. simply exchange at the store.
Question is will that ever change?
These tools are supposed to comparable in quality to Snap-on,Craftsman and MAC tools, just at a cheaper price with the same unconditional lifetime warranty. You break it, take it back to an Autozone and you walk out with a new tool, NO QUESTIONS ASKED and no receipt. The Greatneck tools carrry a limited lifetime warranty, but Autozone is going to start requiring a receipt for all returns on them, where the Duralasts are no reciept.

What was wrong with the ratchet? What model number was it?

The very word lifetime is open to interpretation. Lifetime typically does not mean the person’s lifetime or the length of the time they own a product. Instead it usually means expected life of a product.

I'll chime in here. So, I've got a few things that are "husky pro" I basically use said tools when I need to beat the **** out of something or am afraid something will break. That said i've had my 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" husky pro ratchets break. They don't sell the "pro" ratchets individually and they had to open up HUGE sets to exchange them. All I did was go in....grab the set that had said tool....go to the customer service desk, laughed while they tried to open said set, rcv'd my product and left. It was really easy and mostly painless.

I had a similar experience. I was exchanging a ratcheting wrench (Gearwrench style) but they don't sell them individually. Well, all they did was have me bring them a set off the shelf, and they opened it up and swapped the one wrench. King of seems like a waste, so I hope they somehow reuse the other good wrenches at the factory.

Yeah, I've had two full-breed Siberian Huskies and two Husky mutts; love the brand but don't care so much for the tools, so alas, all of my hardware store brand stuff is Craftsman.

I am a tractor trailer mechanic have been for years, use to have all snap on and mac tools, sold some years back and started driving instead, after several years came back to mechanics, bought all husky tools.couldn't be happier,a 3/8 ratchet broke aft
er about three years,I called the 1-800 number they were very apologetic that the tool broke,I was told they would send me a new one and to just throw the old one away, two days later a brand new ratchet came with fedex.recently called about a
half inch ratchet, same story.as for air tools, had a 3/8 air ratchet stop working, they said we're sorry we don't carry that item anymore and asked how much I paid for it,I said 119 dollars, two days later a gift card for 120 dollars to the home depot came in the mail.Believe when I say these tools can take a beating and they do stand behind them all you have to do is sit down and make a phone call!

I've never needed to use my Husky Warranty. But as I understand it, I think you need to have the original sales slip with you. That's pretty unlikely that any sales slip will survive for more than a year or two max. I have a bunch of slips in my draw, and most are faded to nothing.

I've been pretty happy with Husky quality though. The ratchet and socket set I got from them for $50 has been really nice, and has stood up to some decent abuse.

I also bought a Husky torque wrench for $80, which I treat like gold. It still does its job.

I think they are just as good, if not better than Craftsman.

I even got a Husky screwdriver set that was made in the USA! Imagine that?

My Craftsman screwdrivers have worn like they're made out of lead or something (not hardened).

I like Husky even if I may not be able to get a warranty out of them 5 years from now.
