I have some of the folding shelf brackets and they work well. The only challenge with them is the small tab inside the shelf that needs to be released to fold them down. I'm not sure how you depress all 3 brackets when they are 12ft apart.

Half a king water bed support base, couple of gate hinges, couple of bolts with washers and wing nuts, some 2x4 scraps.

I assume at that price it includes the brackets, a hardwood top, and delivered to your door with someone to install it. Otherwise, go buy a set of brackets or fab up your own for less than $40 or so. The gate hinge solution is even less, and far stronger.

I made mine to fold up, rather than down, so I can store things under it. Folding down means you get all the space back I guess, but it also means you have to keep it clear.

Stuff like this always puzzles me-----isn't anyone who would use a workbench most likely skilled/handy/inspired enough to build their own?? The price doesn't surprise me. Even just the work in a top like that would get you there, probably. If you've ever glued up, smoothed and finished a top like that, you know!

So if anybody on here can design, engineer, manufacture, paint, make the tooling for the fancy plastic handle, test with certification, and ship their product for less, I'd be delighted to hear your business plan. Not to mention that this is likely a low production run product, so there's another nail in the coffin. Look closely at all the photos and ask yourself, what kind of money does it take to make all these parts? It adds up quick.

MarkG hinted towards this companies issue. The end consumer can easily make something that functions the same for 1/10th the cost. If plywood and 2x4's are acceptable to you, then this is likely not something you will be buying.

Someone's Wife/GF/BF/SO/LP is going to see that and think, "Oh what a great idea" and order it for Christmas.
They aren't marketing these to the person who will be using it...

Judging by the thickness of the parts in the pictures, I'd say the legs are stamped or formed metal and the latches/handles are plastic.

How much is a five foot by two foot 1.5" thick butcher block top? I don't know as that is a crazy high price, but anyone who buys it is paying for the convenience of the parts being all set and ready to go.

I bet that top would be half the price or more.

Mine wouldn't be able to fold because it would be immediatley covered with ****.

What he said.

On the other point being hammered, yeah most of us could make something like that exactly to taste for something between $0 and $100 and a day of work. If I needed one just like that, I'd consider it a fair value.
