I've been a long time reader and member of the GJ, but have unfortunately never had a garage project to post here. Well, I can finally say that I do.

It's been tough the last 8 or so years since moving away from my last House/garage (still own it, but my dad lives in it), and started renting in another city all those years ago. While renting I built a car in a rented, uninsulated garage, and did maintenance ion my cars in the middle of the night in the rented condo's parking garage as it was against the condo rules.

Recently moved into my new place and immediately started work on making it more of my own. Although the updates will likely be light in the future, it's nice to finally claim a space on the GJ.

Of course some pics are always needed on a garage thread, so I'll post a few to get the ball rolling.

Here she is shortly after moving in. Beat up walls, shelves thrown up in a rush to get stuff out of the way, no paint, and in general disarray. I bought some new Husky cabinets and workbenches almost immediately to start the plan, and replace my old beat up toolbox.

First thing first. Need lighting to even be able to see what I'm working on with the garage, let alone in the garage. I found some great LED lighting with 4K lumen each. I'm no lighting wizard, but I know with the lowered roof section of the garage, I wanted a low profile light. These seemed to fit the bill.

I will help by asking a question. What size will your shop be?

It's an attached garage to a home built in the 80's. It's deep enough, but very narrow. I measured it at one time, but the measurements escape me now.

An immense amount of patching was needed to make the walls even remotely straight.

I'm still looking for the best solution for my race bag. Currently to not take up any space on my benches, I have the bag sitting on a fold out table under the window. I'd like to free up that space as well. The race bag is the size of a med/large duffel bag containing all the things for a day at the track (Helmets, driving shoes, cameras, radios, water spray, tire chalk... that sort of thing.

Thanks. Bianca has been good to me, but she is on the block to be sold right now. In Autocross she's a bit on the heavy side, and to stay in more competitive classing I can't do much to compensate for that (Currently in BSP). Currently looking for something a bit more mid-engine again.

Thanks. The paint is a 10 ft job, but it’s in a garage and a garage that gets worked in, so I have no challenges with it being a bit rough. Going from what it was though... night and day.

I'm in need of some creative (small garage) ideas on how to declutter a corner. I have the welder, jack, ramps, stands, and a material pail all jammed in a corner where the door wants to be when open.

I guess I need some inspiration on how I can optimize this space.

Thanks a lot. Thus far I am very pleased with the results.

Funny you ask that, because I just got a quote to have the flooring done. I usually like to do things on my own, but for that project I figured Id get quotes. I'm looking at a Floortex product. It's a Polyaspartic coating. I'm debating getting it done before another long, cold and salty winter.

So here I am, five years later and I got the itch to redo the garage. Over the years I've moved the cabinets around, and rehung things, but no major overhauls.

In the last five years we redid almost the whole house... Literally. 1 bedroom, 1 Office, Family room, Living room, 4 bathrooms, Laundry room, and the whole basement got redone. Some were simple paint and wallpaper, some were complete gut jobs. The exterior of the house has been repainted and all the yardwork and concrete edging redone... So... Time to start it all again right?

Here's my most recent "revision" of the previous setup. Over the years i strayed away from the super clean look I was originally looking for.

So far we are a couple weekends in and have seen major changes. We stripped all the concrete sealant off the side walls and reapplied a sealant in a couple coats, and then a durable paint to the floor. I get lazy and hose out the garage often, and this has led to the sealant popping off the wall where the concrete is. I don't want this again, so I brought is all to the floor and will eventually get the epoxy up just high enough to seal to the bottom of the walls.


All floor cracks were chased and we are now letting the filler cure. If all goes well the floor will be ground on the weekend and the floor will be started Saturday.

Anyway, here's a couple shots, cause nobody reads this anyway.

Thanks. The house was repainted last year and although the orange looked better with the blue (house used to be red), it was times to add a mores cohesive look to the whole package.

The last week has been long. I'm in the home stretch though.

The floor was resurfaced and cleaned. Primer applied, but took an extra day to be dry to the touch. During the first coat of epoxy it got really gusty and leaves were being cursed, second coat went well except for the heavy rain last night, and hopefully today I'll be putting on the top coat. The complexity for me is that I have a 10" section of garage pad beyond the overhead door, and I want it to look consistent with the rest of the garage. Here's some picks of the progress.

The Garage 2.0 is officially complete. There are a few items I have left to find a home, but the goal is to maintain a much more clean aesthetic where everything has a place. There are still some items I have to find a home for, but they shouldn't add too much more to distract from the clean look.
