On a separate note, I got the drywall all sanded. I hate working over my head on the ceilings. My shoulders were fried!

There was a ton of drywall dust (to be expected with a hack like me). I was going to vacuum it up and then decided to use the leaf blower instead. There was a strong wind pushing into the front. As I used the blower it was pushing dust out like a champ. I am really surprised that somebody didn't call the fire department thinking there it was on fire. The dust cloud was huge.

Yep, I'm about a mile and a half east of Legend High. Where are you located? The crane guy was hilarious. The only reason he took the job was because it was close to where his crane is located. He calls it T-Rex and said he doubted it could make it across town lol. He knows how to use it though for sure.

I had a few CJ's in my earlier days. That thing looks great although you have some rust issues (as to be expected). What other rigs are you running?

Finally found some time to get paint on the walls. It's been so busy for me lately I haven't had a whole lot of time. I thought the tan I picked out was a lot lighter than it is. Oh well, it's a shop and I'm good with it! I put up one of my copper colored panels to see how it would look...I like it a lot.

Very nice garage, awesome photos. We are headed to Moab and then to Ouray this summer to do some wheeling. After seeing some of the photos, we may stay a day or longer in Ouray.

I managed to get my upper cabinets installed where my workbench will go. I then had to prep my Jeep for a wheeling trip the next day.

The trip was fun with the exception of one guy with a rear broken driveshaft, one with a front broken axle shaft, and one guy who flopped it.

No injuries on the flop, the axle shaft was replaced in ~20 minutes, and the broken rear driveshaft limped back out after riding with me for the rest of the trail.

Forgot to add that the day started off crappy but ended up being very nice at the trailhead.

Looks like a fun trip despite the issues and the shop is looking great.

The wife and I just returned from Moab and had a great time for the few days we were there. Weather was great but we had snow at home, glad we weren't there for it.

Yep CG. Typical u-joint break after ears got stretched. Luckily the driver was able to get a spare shaft from another guy.

After a long delay, I finally got my final electrical and final building complete.

I immediately went to work on my new workbench with inset cabinets. I built a bench in my attached garage the same way when I first moved in and I really like how it turned out. That thing is as solid as can be. I based the new workbench off of the other one.

I picked up my cabinets off of craigslist for cheap. I haven't decided if I will paint them or not yet.

I gathered some materials to get me started and off to work I went. I used 4x4 posts for strength and sturdiness, 2x6 at the top and 2x4 at the bottom to tie it all together.



I am tall and wanted a taller than normal workbench so I'm not always hunched over. The top of the workbench when finished will sit right about 43 1/2-44 inches. I notched the inside 4x4's to accept the crossmembers. On the outside corners I will use Simpson strong tie corner brackets.

Once I had everything notched out I drilled and inserted T nuts to use for levelers.



I don't have a need for this bench to be mobile, so I mounted it directly to the wall. I laid out my materials, measured for the cabinet width, squared it up and started fastening.





Once that was done, I raised it up and got it leveled out before adding my cross bracing.



The frame will stick out 24" from the wall and will have a 2" overhang with the top installed. I had to leave it at this point as I had to leave for a 72 hour shift of work

Getting back to work on my work bench. I was going to make it an L shape but have since decided to keep it as a 16' bench tied into the wall. I will make a separate mobile bench which will serve well for the shop. I will also fab a welding table in the future.

I finished the frame of the bench and level it out as well as got all the support bracing in. The thing is solid.





I secured the corners with Simpson strong tie brackets. Maybe overkill for a workbench but I did the same in my other garage and that bench is a beast.

I am integrating cabinets into the workbench, hence all the "extra" 2x4's at the bottom. Those will support the cabinets when they are installed. I bought the cabinets used off of craigslist for cheap. In order for them to fit, I had to cut off the toe kick section.

Since the weather was about to turn crappy I decided to get the two post lift out from my basement and move it to the shop. Each of those posts are incredibly heavy (I'm guessing 700 lbs?) and it made it tough for a one man job. I fabbed up a couple of dollies and used a floor jack to assist. Once I transistioned them to the outside, I used the winch on my Jeep to pull them up onto the trailer. Once I got them over to the shop I was able to wrestle them with a little leverage. Took about three hours to get them both moved.

Progress has been slow but I feel like I'm finally getting there.

Workbench complete enough for me to work on other stuff. I finally got the metal siding up too. After that, I set the cabinets into the workbench and finally cleaned the place up. Last thing I did was to get the lift posts upright as a stopping point.

What are the specs on that lift? Is that a low ceiling model?

Got a lot of my wall art hung while waiting on anchor bolts for the lift.





I was debating hanging the dash as a complete unit or recessing the guages and speedo into the wall at my work station. I still haven't decided. The dash itself is pretty beat up.

Love how the workbench is turning out! That's exactly what I would do, along the entire wall and then make it the same height as other things like the table saw, welding table on wheels so you can have it all symmetric and interchangeable etc.
