Well got up early this morning and my fence was in the process of falling over!
So I climbed over stuff all over the garage floor, scrambled to find screws, my drill, and a trucker strap and ran out in the downpour and gusting wind. I made it just in time! Braced the railing across the post, drove a screw into the top of the brace, hooked the trucker strap around the nail and strapped the other hook around my project F-150 rear end that was fortunately laying a few feet away, and ratcheted the fence back up.
Anyhow, that got me motivated to get out into my odd L shaped garage and begin getting a walking path cleared and start putting stuff away and semi-organized. While reading on the GJ the other day, I came across someone who said to just focus on one wall at a time, and work from there. That theory helps a lot, sometimes its just so overwhelming and hard to get started. Started with my 52" craftsman griplatch toolbox. I Emptied the top chest flip up part, dusted and put only the things back that needed to be there. I think this is the first time I've been able to actually close the lid in two years, lol. Next, I did a quick dusting of both top and bottom chests for the first time in the 6 years since I've owned it, and organized my "quick grab/basic tools" drawer - stuff like hammers, pry bars, tape measure, level, etc that had been scattered all over before. Most of the other drawers are semi-organized, although I do have a few small drawers that are under utilized/without a true purpose, but that will be for a later time.
Next up, I cleaned off my small Craftsman workbench that mostly serves as my HF mini-lathe bench (which is a project for another day - needs motor brushes replaced and adjustment to the preload on the headstock). Taking a small coffee break now to share my progress and appreciation for all the little tips I've picked up here. Next up is to start working on clearing off my 12' of workbench along the straight wall on the far side of the garage so that I can have a nice section of bench.
I'm going to try to make it out to the garage at least an hour or two every other day to slowly work my way through and find places for things so that I can actually find them when I need them. One of my biggest issues that I need to find a solution for is all of my car parts. It's difficult, I like having spare parts on hand for emergency repairs, but they really do take a lot of room and its rare that I do need them. I do have a storage unit, and I feel like a lot of it should probably go there so that I can use my shelves for more commonly used things. I really don't have a whole lot of room to work with, and that is probably the reason I really don't come out to my garage much anymore - its just a complete clusterf&%#.
Anyhow, thought I would share my progress so far, hope you all are having a great Sunday!
