After a year of planning and working with a builder our new home is under way. My first home had no garage. I had planned to build a detached garage there for years but it just never happened. So after 7 years there with no work space and scraping ice off the cars, I'm ready to join the club.

The new space will be home to a BMW (assorted), my 95 Z28 vert and my wife's grocery getter Grand Cherokee. I'm also planning on some space for my beer brewing and wrenching hobbies.

Inspiration for the title and future resident checking out the sewer lines.

We are the first to go in this subdivision so it been fun watching all the infrastructure go in. Here is the one day old road with our lot on the left.

The house will have a walkout basement. They are going to bring in a TON of fill to make the site work. :wtf:

make sure they properly compact the fill in smal lifts, general 6-12 inch layers, otherwise you will have serious settling problems later

I am in upstate NY, near albany. They seem to be doing a nice job with the grading on the lot. The fill seems of a high quality and drains very well, although I think some settling will happens either way.

Here it is with the forms removed:

Looking into the garage. White stuff is Calcium Chloride, they covered it with plastic shortly after.

Not too much garage progress to report. The house is coming along and siding was just completed on this side.

I have been thinking about some hose hookups for the garage for car washing. The house has the PEX going in and thankfully there is a shared wall with a bathroom. This will make the lines easy to tap into. This is my first time working with PEX so i'll need to figure that out.

Thinking about this for the garage wall...

I use a Woodford horizontal mixer like that in the barn, and Woodford Iowa frost-proof hydrants all over the place, very good stuff. I hadn't seen the vertical pex fitting you show- looks like a good idea. Also like your build and plans in general, plus the Lab (have a chocolate female as my garage-and-everywhere-else buddy). Keep up the pics!

Time to bring this thread to back to life. A great day when the driveway went in! Should be plenty of room.

Just had to have a red door. All ready to move in after a long wait.

Picked up a new toy to make short work of the lawn.

Which became the first wrenching project in the new place. Concrete floors and a roof sure do make projects easier. Felt good to break the place in!

The wrenching was contagious and spilled over to the truck getting a new Rancho Quick Lift suspension and some brakes:

I also scored some metal medical cabinets off craigslist. The gap between the drawer cabinets will become a desk. Still not sure what I am going to do above them.

I've been making some progress with the work area. As you can see I am not one to bother with clean countertops. Still waiting for some nice upper cabinets to appear on Craigslist.

Picking up the craftsman toolbox really helped get a lot of the hand tools organized.

Also got a new (to me) compressor. Needed something with a bigger tank than my Makita to blow out the sprinkler system. I'm really impressed with how quiet the belt drive compressor is!

And a milestone was reached when two vehicles can be parked inside. Also have room for my plow I picked up to the side.

Beware of dog. :scared:
