So had a few good days off since last Wednesday. Spent some time with the kids and even snuck down to the workshop for an hour or three.

Managed to get the rest of my cupboard sorted. Its the "Stock" Cupboard now. Sanding discs, Grinding and Cutting Discs, Welding rods, Drill bits, Jigs, sharpening stones, hole saws, ratchets, Saw blades, Machine tools, Safety Gear, Sockets, My Shop Vac and Spare (to be serviced) motors. The two extra shelves were invaluable. Its already cleared up other cupboards and shelf space. Funny how many small items makes up lots of Big space...

I then Received a phone call. My daughter had been playing at friends for the afternoon, They are the off the Grid type people I really wish I could achieve half of what they have... Anyway so I hear that we have a new addition to the family... A Chicken... O K A Y and we need a chicken coop...

Whoo-hoo... More shop time...

So I'm sure I've mentioned before that I suffer terribly from too much month at the end of my salary... This month I have my Wifes and Daughters Birthday. That means Jumping castles, something to say thank you and congratulations towards another year, birthday parties and birthday supplies... and a chicken...

Thankfully I'm only a day or 2 over broke so was at least able to afford a packet of screws, chicken wire and washers I knew I'd need for the project ahead... although I had no plan so to speak...

I had thankfully picked up a fresh slab of Shutterply when I purchased my pegboard. got it from Builders Warehouse (Sub par quality at ridiculously inflamed prices for you convenience and cos no one else is open on a Saturday after 2...). It was to be for some shelving. But was warped and I couldn't get it out.

After scrounging around I had some usable stock to work with... I kind build these things straight off mind based on measurements of materials discovered...

All marked out and ready to cut - The Chicken box First

My my home made track guide... It works really well I must admit but I do want to remake the Base plate to better match the guide and have it out of something more fancy and accurate than MDF.

It was made to the width I had on hand of some decent Plastic Roofing. I have plenty Corrugated. But wanted this to be a bit more kid and wife friendly and was afraid of heavy slightly rusted sharp cornered steel roofing.

I'm working outside as its that perfect time of year where its great in the sun but not cooking... also the workshop is a disaster. "Granny" is renovating the house a little so the workshop is currently filled with liters upon liters of Paint drums and tins and Future kitchen developments... I'm only happy to accommodate for everything that they do for me...

I was planning on doing the final build of everything at home so I could squeeze it all in the back of "Granny's" Opel Mocka... I kinda decided to re-arrange the front end of my polo on the *** end of the usual inconsiderate African Taxi... So my car is getting fixed and I'm using the Parentals.

Got all the farming trimmed up and marked out

A good mate of mine Mr Thompson has actively engaged me in some of my airheaded Ideas I divulge his way on occasion. As such he has supported my cause by giving me a great book.

Dad has plenty of reading material but its nice to have something a little more current and concise...

I've been doing some reading of late but have come to realise the oppurtunity to practice things on 'less than perfect results required' Projects.

Now normally I would have just screwed the hole shebang together with screws long enough to do the job and called it quits. I enjoyed making the Recessed Joints for the Stair wall and Figured a lap joint Frame would be a better idea.

Got everything clamped up

Pulled out Pops old Kinzo Saw... Followed by the usual Chiseling work... Sorry no pics I kinda got caught up in the 'Art' of it

And got to work - I have a long way to go before reaching the masterful art of accuracy...

Didnt want to setup the bar clamps for a simple quick tension hold... Quick grips just weren't long enough... Neat little Idea I saw once

Really liking these cup washers...

All Flat packed and ready to go... Found some scrap Fencing almost perfect size to put under the Chicken wire for extra rigidity with our dogs and kids...

Managed a quick clean up of the most important space in the shop before Dragging everything home

The next morning kids had us up early super excited for thier chickens new home.

I cant begin to tell you how many times putting everything together my daughter asked if it was ready and if she could put Ashley-Kira into it (the chicken - Her name for it - its a **** btw - try explain that to a 4 year old)

Thankfully I passed inspection

One two Skip a few... mangled hands and Short on Screws... Chicken wire is unkind to hands with out leather gloves to work it...

Still need to put a door on this end... Just ran out of wood

A few mods to come... Needs some wheels to make it easy to move. Otherwise I'm happy, Daughter is happy, Wife is happy... Chicken is happy...

So while "Granny" has been painting house...

I have some future cleaning up to do... Lots to just chuck. I want the motor and Stainless Steel Drum from the washing machine... Still runs... But everything is fooked on it. Tons of Roofing, some L Beams, lots of crappy sheet steel from my skate ramp building days...

A lot it sits on these brackets Quite neatly though...

Still... I would like to make this a little more 'kid friendly' seeing as its the back wall to the workshop and the kids tend to play there while I'm in the shop...

Cant do anything while the paint dries... So my mission for the day...

Need to start getting this Sorted a bit better...

Don't know why I didn't think of this building the Chicken Coop... But Took some Roof Beam from my 'Stock' and ripped them on the table saw into half

Best make that door for the Chicken coop now...

I want to use some of the roof space I have for Lengths of materials...

As usual I cocked up my measurements so was only able to do one side... Will rip some more when I Do the Chicken Door...

I know that the spacing is off on one... the light is in the way... I've found a good deal on some old office lights I hope to acquire soon. So that will move eventually and put my ocd to rest...

And all thats left of the small stock from that pile... This will go on the wire shelves eventually...

Just the sheet goods to sort out now...

Really works well. Cant wait to the other side for other odd items and lengths... Will make a wall rack for the sheet goods...

Not bad for a weekends cutting and drilling...
