Well I got around to making some benches this weekend. A little one that’s built pretty hefty where my vise will eventually end up, and a larger, lighter duty, fold-up variety on the other wall. I altered my original design for the fold up so that if I wanted to keep something below it (like a tool cart or compressor)

I'm glad the fold up bench idea worked out well for you! I like how you did the latch. Did you use a locking fence gate latch?

C4E, what a challenge you have on you hands!
Very interesting thread that we all can learn from.
Even though I have a 3 car garage, with 3 car parked inside during the winter, storing everything out of the way is challenging!
I love the fold up bench idea and some of the suggestions our members gave you.
Guess flipping the backyard door has to be high on the list now that you got your minibench installed!?!
I think something along the walls to protect the car doors and the walls could be just the ticket in your build.....

I have had my 1 car garage for about ten years now...there hasn't been room for a car in eight...if you do it slowly enough your wife won't see it coming.

That's looking prety good. My original garage was small 12x20 and I managed to work on cars in it, so I know where you're coming from (it eventually collapsed with my help so I made it 16x20 ). As everyone said, make the best use of the space. Looking good so far. keep us up on the progress.

Refering to the vice, I took an old Semi truck break drum and made it into a table base, I have several diffrent tops I can trade out, one with a vise, one with a grinder, one flat metal (i weld on it).
As for the size, I love it, I wish I had that much (that I didnt have to share with the wife). I do truly enjoy seeing how people with small garages, storage, Jeeps...overcome there lack of room. After all I had a 30x60 and could fit everything in it. Lets see the creativity come out.
