It's hard to believe I started posting about this build on the GJ way back in 2016! Seriously building a garage/shop has been on my mind since 2004, although it's something I've wanted my whole life. Well, I am FINALLY building my garage addition... It all started last year (apparently waiting a year for permits is normal around here), the Longshot Garage is actually under way! I am working on it as well as a series of YouTube videos on the build and trying to launch the first four by the end of the week. Right now I'm waiting on the roof and trying to figure out stucco.

This is a 579 square foot, tandem, 2 car addition to my existing standard 2 car garage in Phoenix. I was limited by a 10 foot setback off the side yard and what I thought was a 30 foot setback off the back. I just learned after starting this build that the 30 foot setback was for an addition attached to the house, and the separate building I originally wanted only required an 8 foot setback. :ROFLMAO: The good news is I have the available lot coverage to still build a big 2 car garage back there -- fingers crossed that I can make that happen too!

Here are my original posts on the build. Sorry I posted all that in the Introduce Yourself section!

I recently posted a pretty comprehensive video on the foundation install. I really got lucky and found a GREAT concrete guy. I actually got him to sit down for 10 min and explain what he and the crew did in the video -- that section is toward the end.

Thinking about the Onforu flood lights for the backyard and the Barrina strips for in the shop. Anyone have experience with either of these?

Also, can anyone tell me the lowest height, and the highest height for 120v receptacles? I have been researching it and seen various numbers from 12" to 18" at the bottom and 48" to 6 1/2' at the top. Basically I want to put all the garage outlets in the garage, and one out back of the garage at 48" to the top of the box (I don't want to bend over to access my outlets :ROFLMAO:).

My cousin had the barrinas in his shop and loves them. They are pretty bright and do a good job of lighting up his 30x40. I am looking hard at them but also considering a fixture where I can add led retro fits to it just for serviceability later on. Hard to beat them for the price I just hate if one goes out you ha e to replace the whole fixture.

I have the Barrinas in my shop, 9 in the main part 30x30 and 3 more in the little room 5x25. They are awesome for brightness and have been up for 4-5 years with no issues and are cheap enough to replace if necessary.
My plugs are 48" above the floor as well as a few near the ceiling for a router and miscellaneous stuff.

3rd endorsement for the Barrinas. I have 4 rows in my 20 x 20 garage, 9 ' ceiling and it's amazing. No shadows and great overall brightness. My only issue is the mounting clips are very soft. You have to be gentle installing them.

And I did a Time-Lapse version of my concrete video. Check it out here:
Up next is framing which I'll get too after the stucco is done. Any thoughts or pointers on my videos and how I can make them better would be greatly appreciated!

I got a 3-pack of those flood lights above on sale for around $70. True to form they dropped the price another $20 after that. :ROFLMAO: Amazon wouldn't price adjust but they did say I could order the cheaper (same) ones and return mine. I let it go but waited on the Barrina lights that I just order for $161, it's a limited time sale on Amazon that you might want to check out.

I had some fun with the electrical. This is the first major thing I actually did myself. I come from a competition car stereo background so I made my wiring extra neat. It's a shame it's all buried in expanding foam now! 🤣

Now I have to buy drywall... Gonna get 20 sheets of 5/8ths 4' x 12'. Is one brand better than another? A local drywall place charges $18 a sheet (HD & Lowe's want $23.98). The brand is Pabco--anyone ever use it, is it any good? Also does Lowe's and HD deliver?

I bought my drywall from a dry wall supplier and had them deliver it. No way I would ever want to move 4x 12 sheets of drywall. I think drywall is an item where brand doesnt matter much. Gonna cover it all in mud and paint and punch a ton of holes in it anyways. Build is lookin good!

This is taking longer than I thought--imagine that! :ROFLMAO: Drywall is up an primer/paint is on the exterior. Sadly, I had to put the mudding and taping on hold due to the AZ summer heat. It's only like 115 outside, but the mud was drying out before I could finish even a short joint.

Looking good!

Didn't catch it if it was above...assuming you're going to do air conditioning here...any chance you can get the AC in now to give you a more suitable space to get work done in?

Sadly, I held off on the AC for now. I really should have included a mini split in the original design, but I didn't want to complicate it considering I was doing the wiring myself. That being said, I do believe I'll have to add one in the future and I'll be able to do that.
