There is a rumor spreading around my area about the Snap On dealers. The rumor is Snap On wants to replace them with younger guys. One dealer has 30 years as a dealer. One dealer down the road in my area has been forced out already,he is not too happy with Snap On has done to him after 21 years.Told them **** you doing a repo, the customer has been through a lot medical problem wise and owes $5,000.00.Told the customer make the payments instead.Snap On has had to pay ex dealers in the past, franchise fraud.Snap On owns half of OTC and they have been spending money buying more companies.Plus 11 dealers killing themselves because they owe money to Snap On.

Is it you that's spreading it?

Your leaving a lot out. How long did this guy not make payments for, you gotta pay your bills... If you have the flu is it ok to not pay your mortgage. sounds like that dealer was a little soft when it came to collecting.

I did not spread this rumor,my Matco tool dealer heard this from sources. This guy that owes money,he is going through medical problems and he told Snap On to repo his tools if they wanted to.This same dealer forced out by Snap On down the road in my area said this.I checked on an air ratchet I had sent out to get rebuilt at the time. The death of Tim Farrell, there were two reasons why he killed himself out. This dealer was not married and not in relationship, basically a loner.Snap On said it was an affair with another woman which was not true.He owed Snap On money and this was covered up.

IMHO this all boils down to Franchise or not a franchise, SOME People are just not cut out to be self employed. Theres more to running a tool truck (or any business) then just driving around, handing out lollipops and selling ratchets.

IMHO all the trucks that have gone down the tubes, either voluntarily or by force have been necessary evils. My last SO Guy was a GREAT Guy personally, but on the finanicial side of the house, I dont think i'd let him try to run a road side lemonade stand.

No different then Techs....i've seen some GREAT Dealer techs leave and do the "Crash n Burn" when doing their own thing...come back to the shop and be right back on top.

Looking at who the trucks are trying to recruit...its not business minded folk..

The current crop of tool trucks I frequent...all are happy, have a great blend of business mind and tool knowledge, run tight ships and both have been around for a while and are doing good for themselves.

It is getting harder to get OTC stuff now through the tool trucks thanks to Snap On,My Matco tool dealer has been going through this.

OTC's problems have nothing to do with Snap-On.

Your earlier comment about Snap-On owning half of OTC is incorrect.

OTC is wholly-owned by Robert Bosch GmbH (The Bosch Group). Snap-On is simply a contract purchaser of certain OTC products, just like any other business customer.

I confirmed that by phone this morning, directly with Snap-On's vice-president for investor relations, just to make sure my information was still up to date.

Snap-On Inc. owns twenty-one brands. OTC is NOT one of the twenty-one.
