Thanks Drives, and everybody.

We’re just waiting on the new house closing. The sell of our current house comes later.

It has a large garage, and room to grow. And a pretty nice view out the shop window!

At 32” of annual rainfall, it’s considerably drier than Sedro-Woolley.

It’s actually in the Olympic rain shadow.

 I lived just across Admiralty Inlet from you in the Olympic Rain Shadow for 8 years; the microclimate really defies the PNW stereotype. We only got about 24" a year; a few miles away it was 170"...

Dang!

Actually spent some time in the shop today, and it wasn’t packing boxes.

Got to hang out with my dad, and do a little repair work on his vintage Rockwell A3 belt sander.

Made for a really nice afternoon.

I think this thing is older than I am!

My Grandpa lived in Sequim for some time. I remember the lawn was brown and dry. He complained about it being too dry for gardening. haha.

Thanks,

If all goes well, we’ll be moving North to Skagit Valley area.

Getting kind of excited, but got a ways to go.

My parents live in that area, Sedro Woolley. Too wet and cold for me, but better than Olympia were I grew up.

I live by Lake Samish - wetter than Bellingham, drier than Sedro I think. I work in the Skagit Valley. Who will you be working for? Either way - when you get settled in, let's have a beer.

From the picture I thought you had already sneaked it into the new place. ;)

Nice desk, hopefully when you get settled into the new shop you can use it to write work orders for your staff to execute. :lol_hitti

Going to have to start looking for some qualified staff first!

I’ll be sticking with my current employer for the foreseeable future.

Looking forward to having a beer in the rain!

Having grown up in SE Alaska, rain isn’t much of an issue for me.

Thanks for the tip on the dye, looks like a great route to go. The top is by far perfect, someone started sanding it already and got a bit carried away. It has a slight cup to it, so the top is convex and a few seams are showing signs of spreading. I figure for a desk it will be fine. Here are a few pictures of it.

I thought I had a unique idea of staining a butcherblock top in blue... guess not. Thanks for killing the dream... I mean inspiring me to get mine going.

Finishing the little hollow vessel bowl was slow, because the pitch pine/ soot mixture didn't want to dry. Next time I'll add some Japan Drier to the mix to speed up the drying process.

Sanded through the milk paint, soot layer, and into the wood, leaving an interesting pattern on the outside.

Still need to finish the inside of the bowl.

KPCi

That bowl is flat amazing!

Unless you are planning on sealing it with a bar top type sealer, I wouldn’t recommend doing it, I didn’t want that shiny look and it really hasn’t been fully sealed because of it.

Lol I pretty much gave up trying to find a cheap butcher block top measuring 36x96. It was a pipe dream to be honest. Something I thought a lot about but never figured out how to make it a reality.

I'll probably double up some 3/4 plywood and call it a day.

Thanks Thirdy5. That little bowl was a fun project.

Slednut, give your SIL a couple :thumbup: from me.

Love the grain/sapwood on the top.

I have no idea what it is, but I'm sure you'll make something amazing out of it that will inspire jealousy in us mere mortals.

Thanks,

I’ve got ideas growing in my head, and I’ve already picked out a place for it.

Just need to get through the move, and get set up in the new shop!

That’s a good idea!

A guy on Instagram let me know it’s a holder for glass wire insulators on a power pole.

It’s going in the future project pile for now, waiting on the new house deal closing.

I love this kind of stuff, do you keep them boxed up or are displaying your future project pile?

Boxing stuff up as fast as I can, and counting days!

I know that feeling.

I can relate= In the last year we bought and sold four houses, during the course of which we :

1. Moved from the WA coast to the White Mountains in AZ
2. Moved my In-laws from WA to assisted living in AZ
3. Swapped mot of the furniture between our house in the desert and the new house in the Mountains
4. Sold the house in the desert and moved to another.

I have boxes I moved in January that haven't been unpacked yet. It seems like every time I look for something it's in the other garage, still boxed up or lost in the black hole moving abyss.

Good Luck with the upcoming move, Riven. Hope it goes well.
ToolFool, are you getting settled into your new digs in the Sunshine State?

The abyss ??
Wife decided we should send Christmas cards early to let everyone know we moved (or else she wouldn't be receiving many cards). Haven't been able to find her address book anywhere !!

That anvil looks heavy.
Wish I was still there to move it for you. I'd bring my truck ;)

Best of luck on the move!

It ain’t heavy, it’s my anvil!

It was a gift from an old friend.

It’ll always have a spot in my shop.
