Riv, that's a pretty clever use of your frankenchiselplane.

Jay

I don’t use it much, but it does earn its place on my bench.

Today was mostly cleaning out the last of the snails, spiders, and worms out of all the nooks and crannies. Luckily, no boring bugs.

Also hit some end grain with more penetrating epoxy.

And played with the photo filters on my phone

Decided I needed some traditional rope fenders for the skiff.
Made for a fun project, although a bit of a workout.

Thinking they’ll look great on the cedar, once it gets refinished :(

I don't know if I've ever seen rope bumpers for a boat. Then again I don't get out much. Those are pretty slick and I agree will look great with that boat.

I have recently discovered your thread. The projects and workmanship are beautiful. I am still reading my way through and intend to read it all but the boat fenders are the perfect compliment to the skiff. Thanks for posting. Jim

Thank you, Jim.

The thread is getting a bit long. I appreciate you taking the time to give it a look.
I’m looking forward to getting going on the skiff, and seeing it completed.

I’m thinking it will take me through the winter, and see the water again this spring.

Hey, make me a few of those, I can incorporate them into the new van design. Flew to Ohio on Wednesday and drove it back to FL. Road trip felt good (except for the lack of AC and radio).

TF, I see you're still lusting after those vans. Looks like you found a nice one.
What's the inside look like?
Riv, I hope you don't mind the temporary distraction...

I’d drive that!

Glad to see you found another van. Looks great.

Post up more pics when you can

This is the interior now, done in last two years . The seller did a lot of work, but failed to even touch any mechanicals. I bought this without seeing it myself (COVID) but sent my BIL who knows little about cars. My first drive revealed a mushy brake pedal, all the way to the floor. Turns out the brake fluid was black and lumpy, probably from 1984 ! cost me over $900 before I could get on the road. Seller also swore all door seals were perfect and the van was rust free. Drip rail is almost rusted through from above and every door seal needs replaced. But, overall a solid van, and the 300/6 purred all the way home, once it got up to highway speed.
Stop rust issues first, then mechanicals, body and paint, then re-do interior to my liking. Hope I live long enough.
Now back to you, Scott.

I think he sold you a time machine instead of a van because that takes me back to the 70's. :eyecrazy: That's classic!

A little progress repairing the keel, then sealing it with more epoxy.

Also started making templates of the parts that need replaced.

Then on to glueing up some minor delaminating grain on the gunnels.

Just trying to keep the momentum going til I get the materials I need.

I'll leave this one to you in my will. But then you would have to drive it from Florida to Washington. Such a shame.

My dad has an’80 no window work van he ain’t using anymore.

Might have to take another look at it.

Another area with rot is the bow block.

I started templating today, with plans on making it a bit larger to accommodate the bronze bow cleat.

Going to be a bit of a challenge, as every surface is curved and angled.

Size does matter.

So I’ve heard:eyecrazy:

A little sanding on the skiff today.

Coming out better than expected

I’m trying to raise the grain on a few minor dents. Limited success.
