Thanks Bears, thanks Jim.

I used some poplar for the edging. Trying to decide if I should paint or stain it.

Fun little outing this evening.
I noticed a nice log floating up on my neighbor’s beach.

I threw the little Johnson on the Gheenoe, and went and fetched it. I drug it up on my driveway.
I’ll limb and clean it tomorrow.

It will be interesting to see what comes of it!

That is some professional craftsmanship right there

Whats the plan for that log?
Thanks again, Bears.

I’m planning on cutting it into manageable lengths, then resawing it.

After that (and some dry time) I’ll figure out what it wants to be.

I store my chisels on a magnet strip as well. I have them stashed under a narrow shelf so I don't drag anything over the tip to either cut it or knock the chisels loose.

Found this Log Weight calculator online:

Assumes 75% MC.

Considering where I got it, and the barnacles on it, I’m going to go out on a limb and call it 100% MC.

Should put it in the 4,500-5,000 lbs. range.

Bigger diameter than I thought, it definitely looks heavy. Must’ve been in the water for a bit to have barnacles on it?

Maybe I can find an online calculator to determine barnacle growth rates😜!

It’s looking a bit better after a power wash.

Made a hell of a mess on my driveway 😬.

I needed to roll the log about 5’ to the edge of my driveway to make room to park.

I had to overcome the slope of the driveway.

After exploring all means and methods at my disposal, I formulated a plan.

I chose the ā€œGoing to do some sketchy ****. Do-da, do-da. Hope I get away with itā€ approach.

I removed the base off my HF truck crane, and mounted it upside down in my hitch.
It made a rather nice push bumper.

Honestly I’m kinda surprised it didn’t buckle, and F’up my hitch in the process.

I even got Ranger to give me a little head tilt pose!

I had a hard time letting go of all the stuff I got rid of before moving.
It’s not easy, but I enjoy space more than stuff.

I’ve been posting free stuff on CL for a couple weeks.

stuff is just a millstone around your neck😜

ā€œOld enough to know betterā€ is my usual response to that question.

Old enough to know what a millstone is😜

Juxtapose my want for space with my pack rat tendencies.

Balance is all I’m after.

The vintage fire sprinkler main line hardware was just too much to pass up😲

currently working on reusing some for some rope hooks. Going for a simple ā€œnet shed ā€œ look from 100 years ago.
