Painted the garage last week. Turned out pretty well. Also did the casing around the man door.

Wow man I did not check in for a while here, this is really something. Great job you guys are doing, fantastic work from your FIL :thumbup::thumbup:

Thanks! I am planning on doing some detail work in some areas. Now that the majority of the work is complete, I will start going into the finer details.

I want to paint the gas line as it is just raw metal currently. I was thinking of painting it red however I do not want it to look cheesy/tacky. Maybe I will just paint it a nice black and throw on a "GAS" label for a nice touch. Any feedback?

Our exposed gas line at work is painted the same as the walls. Simple labels every so often explain which is which.

Great work on the garage!

Yea, I was thinking that might look the "cleanest". I might paint a coat of white primmer to see how I like it and then decide from there.

Another update:
I re-installed the projector for the screen. Time for some movie nights. Or NHL playoff games. I will post some pics shortly.

Yes, something along those lines however without the accents. I was thinking of one solid color. Does anyone know where I can get "gas line" labels ?

Its been a while since I last updated this thread. I have been quite busy working on various things. Here is a bit of what I have been working on.

Front Yard:
I didn't like how the builder had designed the front landscaping. I always wanted a "feature rock" that I can light up and put our address on as well as modern looking rocks/plants. I had to dig down quite a bit due to the clay under the top soil. This will allow for better growth of the plants/trees etc...

Fly Fishing Trailer Build:
My Dad and I wanted to build a trailer for our small "topper" boat that we use for fly fishing. We bought a "Rainbow Brand" single axle trailer from a local dealer for a great price. I am currently in process of building metal walls and framing for the upper support/rack for the boat. This will give us lots of room for gear etc. Also in process of designing a "cook station" that attaches to the inside of the doors so when the doors open, there will be a small "basecamp" stove etc. Here is a few pics of the my work.

Next was onto the back yard. Built a deck last week. Here is a few photos.

The last photo is cutting plexiglass on the CNC machine. This is for the privacy wall. More photos of this to come.....

I have been holding off on posting new photos/progress of my projects. Here is a bit of an update.

Been making some headway on the expedition/fishing trailer.

After the walls were cut and test fitted, we took them back off to finish the remaining metal work (door lock system, tie down mounts etc.)

More to come.........

I like the detail in the trailer setup. Did you have a picture of the front yard complete or did I miss it.

It has been a while since I have updated my thread. Doesn't mean the work has stopped. Here is what I have been working on:

Removed the traditional overhead garage door opener and went for a Liftmaster 8500. Added the MYQ feature for online/smart phone monitoring. Works well and sure adds a level of security.

IMG_0178-XL.jpg

IMG_0179-XL.jpg

If you remember earlier from last spring, I had completed some landscaping in the front yard. I installed exterior lighting on a photocell - when it starts to get dark, it turns on/off. I put a light in front of a "feature rock". I finally got around to making the house numbers out of aluminum on the CNC machine. I have to wait until it gets warmer to mount the numbers however here is the result.

IMG_0270-XL.jpg

IMG_0271-XL.jpg

Once we start to get some consistent weather above 10 deg C, I will get on mounting them. More photos to come!

I do a lot of driving for work and have always hated having a coat/suit hanger clanging around on the side windows. For some reason it is super hard to locate a good quality headrest mounted coat hanger. Even ordered one from Amazon however it was a *************. SO, I made this.

IMG_0071-XL.jpg

IMG_0077-XL.jpg

IMG_0079-XL.jpg

Finished it up with some paint and a few coats of stain/varnish. I am happy with how it turned out. Might need a few adjustments however it does the trick.

Haha, my dad wants one too. Maybe I can take orders. Possible group buy for Garage Journal members? Seriously though - anyone interested?

I don't wear fancy clothes, so if you could create something with a similar look that you could mount an iPad to, I'd be all over that!

Great work, btw.

Nice choice with the Liftmaster, nothing but good things i've heard. I've coached several local friends into the purchase. Now just have to get one myself lol...

I love it. I am now working on repairing the drywall there the old one was mounted to the ceiling.

In regards to the headrest coat hanger - anyone serious about wanting one? I am considering setting up a small production run for Garage Journal members.... Just putting feelers out to see if there would be any demand.

I'm impressed with your work and am gaining ideas for my upcoming build. Thank you.

Also interested in the headrest coat hanger should you decide to do a run. Depending on the minimum number you might want to get it started, I could be interested in multiple.

Thanks for the feedback. I am still thinking about making a batch. How many would you be interested in? The problem I may run into is the correct sizing for the mounting on the headrest. I am currently looking into if the size is standard or each manufacturer is different.

I have been working on another project over the last few weeks. I like to camp and decided to get a pontoon boat for fishing. The boat was pretty basic - paddles only - no motor. My dad had an electric motor for a fiberglass boat. I rigged it up to the OEM spot however it was in a somewhat awkward position to control. I did some digging online and found a YouTube post where someone modified the same boat to mount the motor in the front rather than the back. This also helps with weight distribution. Needless to say, I went a bit "overboard" (pardon the pun...) and did this:

IMG_0015-L.jpg

IMG_0024-L.jpg

Once I had the PVC mount built, it was off to the races. It worked well however as always, there are always improvements to be done.

IMG_0326-L.jpg

IMG_0331-L.jpg

IMG_0375-L.jpg

I wanted to build a box to house the wiring and also provide enough room for expansion should I want to add more accessories etc. This also allowed for a 7 way RV plug system so I can easily disconnect without having to tear apart the wiring. So far I built the wiring harness for a fish finder, electric motor and a battery meter.

IMG_0379-L.jpg

IMG_0375-L.jpg

IMG_0380-L.jpg

IMG_0383-L.jpg

IMG_0390-L.jpg

The box has an access cover as I plan to seal it up to prevent from water / rain getting inside.

IMG_0391-L.jpg

I wanted to have the fish finder sonar mounted in a hidden area that would not be a pain to access and not be in the area for casting. There was already a wheel mount bracket for transportation and thought this would be a good place. So, I did this:

IMG_0403-L.jpg

IMG_0399-L.jpg

IMG_0402-L.jpg

The cool thing is I can flip it sideways when transporting and also bring up if fishing in a shallow area.

I almost forgot.

We bought ourselves a couple new toys.....

We fell in love with the Traeger smokers and decided to get another smaller mobile unit for our camping trips. The hot wings are absolutely amazing!!!!!

Going into the winter season, decided it was time to get a Reznor heater. 45,000 BTU's! I plan to clean up the mounting hardware and wiring shortly.

IMG_0287-X2.jpg

I always wanted a table saw. This one was on sale and given the projects I have lined up, figured I would pull the trigger.

An last but not least - the Winnebago. We have used it a ton so far this year and very happy with it. Nice and light. Pulls well.

My sister and her husband had a similar Winnie. They just sold it for a Hymer Adventure Van, but they loved it when they lived out of it around the country. They actually blogged for Winnebago and are in some of their marketing pieces. Looks like a great setup!
