The Mess Around The Press

Seems like my shop press is always one of the most cluttered areas of my shop.
Press plates, bearing splitters, old bearing races, lock collars, lengths of DOM tubing, couple short length of RR rail....all that **** you keep around because you'll end up needing it sooner or later to get out of a pinch.
Seems like there isn't any good way to keep such a random batch of **** organized, and tossing it all into a bucket doesn't work either.

Anyone got any good ideas?

Small stuff like the races could be hung on a piece of wire. As for the other stuff, I'm all ears. My press is overtaken by similar items.

Since I'm pretty much specialized in my shop I've managed to trim down the hang arounds on the press to what's needed for what I mostly deal with. I have a sacrificial box under to catch whatever might come out that can't get my hands on. The extra push mandrel and press plates sit on the base between the box and the uprights.

I've been thinking on moving the press and building a small wall cabinet for the extras that get used with.

I have a SnapOn 32" wide x 20" deep 7 drawer roller cabinet dedicated for gear pullers and press accessories... I often have two sets of "porta powers", a 4 ton and a 10 ton, in their cases, sitting on top of the same roller... When multiple bars of steel, sized up to 1 1/2" x 4" x 12", king pins from semi truck axels, wrist pins, inner and outer bearing races, and other gruntweight wantcessities are "properly" sorted in the lower drawers,, It does clear up a heck of a mess around the press... That roller cabinet racks up very few safari miles due to it's weight, but I am satisfied with being able to move the press and all those accessories without a major cleanup ceremony..

I'd suggest a wall-mounted horizontal (or slightly tilted upward) dowel or bolt setup where you can hang all of the items that will hang. Obviously you can't easily hang the arbor plates (although with a strategic hole drilled in them, I suppose it could be done) - I keep mine in an old plastic milk crate (one of the good ones with the steel band around the top edge) on the floor between the press uprights.

I have all my press accesories in a heavy duty 2 drawer filing cabinet. Races and bearings that are no good go in a 5 gallon bucket for scrap. Keeps the mess way down and I make a few bucks off the scrap when the bucket gets full.
