Not the most organized person in the world. But here I go working on a big garage redo. It has lots of potential, and a few limitations. Electric is not the best, it is reliable, but the circuit is not very big. Walls are concrete, so I need furring strips to mount stuff. The basic garage part is about 15*28, with a little wider than 15 in places. I do most of my welding out on the garage apron unless I am welding on the caddy. I want to convert one of my work benches to a welding table and have it where I can roll it out.

To this point I have just thrown stuff where it can fit and not really put much planning into organizing. I have to improve in this area. I measured it all out last night to help with the planning and also bought some graph paper.

My plans are to pull the caddy out a bit on the apron and pull the motor when i get my cherry picker off layaway. Once I do that I am going to pull the caddy all the way out so I can clean and organize the garage. I am thinking of painting the concrete white like the rest of the basement to make it a bit lighter. Eventually I want to upgrade the electrical service, there are some spots on the breaker box I can use for this. I also have a garage door opener but the circuit won't take it now. I want to organize so I can have a more effective workspace. But what you see is what I have now. What it will be in say six months won't be the same.

The peg board is just stuck behind the shelves for right now. I did pick up some furring strips recently so i can get it put up sometime soon.

Drill press, work bench with Cole Vise, and disorganized chaos.

Not very neat at all

Stuff pulled out so I can do some work. Need to fix one wheel on welding cart. The need to get real power hacksaw blades is alleviated a bit because I just bough a chop saw.

Rear seats from caddy and misc junk, some needs thrown out. I have some scrap pieces I can make a little corner shelf with.

These drawers are going to go under my work bench when I get some angle iron. The compressor sets off the surge protector after just a minute or two so I need a dedicated circuit, would love a 220 but not sure that is in the cards.

Misc basement storage kind of falls into the work area, need to fix that too. This is my other work bench and you can see the fixed jaw of the Prentiss vice I am restoring. It is probably going to go on this bench.

More disorganized storage. But I can pretty much know where to look when I am needing a spray can or other stuff on it.

Old housepaint and newspapers for masking stuff on the car. Also behind the shelf is a big cardboard box I use to lay down when I am spray painting something like wheels so I don't incur wrath.

Another shot of my wonderful scheme of organized chaos, well chaos anyway.

looks like you have a decent amount of space to work with. What are the plans for the caddy?

Hi! I was trying to work in a similar type of garage, and it was always so cluttered... Like you I am not an organized person by nature, so it takes a lot of work for me to get things neat and organized. Then I found this forum and over the past 4 months I have been whipping it into shape.

If I have one piece of advice it is to empty out one corner and work from there, setting it up with storage as high as possible, cabinets, and as much work bench space as you can fit. Then work around the garage until you are done... As a final step my plan is to take EVERYTHING out of the garage and then place it back in piece by piece so it is organized properly.

I built a loft above the garage door and I have the interior of my Buick up there out of the way until it is time to put it back in... That may be an option for you as you said the seats are out of the caddy.

One last tip... Slatwall is a really versatile and low cost wall option, it works great for me!

Thanks for sharing and I will stick around to see the garage take shape!

Do you have room for a tractor shed? I found getting yard tools out the garage to be a big help. Looks like a nice shop, good luck getting organized!

Be thankful I don't live near you... My OCD would take over and I would be sneaking over at night to organize your garage!

Kind of restore/mod it a little. I want it to be a bit more modern version of something you would find on the HAMB. Satin/flat black and a cherry bomb glass pack. Next big thing is to pull the motor for a going through/rebuild depending on what it needs.

It is looking like it might be mid september to october before I can do that. Earlier next month I have some other weekend obligations. I can do some of the reorganization. I did buy some hardware, a wheel to fix the bent one on my welder and some bolts and stuff for the work bench. Right now it is just clamped down.

What you don't see is the gym right next to the walk in door which is next to the garage door. Not much room for a loft in the basement, but I might be able to move some stuff around. It does have a good high ceiling for a basement though. Might could hang something from the rafters. But it would have to be pretty tight to the rafters. More likely we will clean some stuff out of the basement and put them someplace else.

Honestly it looks a little worse in the pics because I have so much pulled out so I could get some scrap lumber in there. And with the scrap lumber I will be able to put up the peg board and other stuff.

Befor you spend any more $$$. Upgrade the electrical.
That way you can use what you have, and expand from there. My 2 cents.

But cant wait to see more.

What you are not seeing here is all the kitty litter I vacuumed up.

Small improvement from last weekend. A little more walk through room and stuff is easier to move now.

Fixed wheel on my welding cart. Makes it easier to organize garage when cart will roll on all 4 wheels.

Repurposed muffin tray for tips and other small bits.

For small pieces I have put this mini welding table on my cart. About the size of a little file card. Used to fix the tank straps on the caddy when I had to cut them.

Going to go downstairs in a bit and move some stuff around here in a bit.

The floor is now pretty clean.

The workbench area needs more work, but the tool boxes are moved. Tires are up out of the way. Still need to get a spot cleaned out for the air compressor. But it is not in the middle of the path anymore.

This is a repurposed video tape display. I store all my safety gear on it. Rubber gloves, work gloves, eye protection, dust masks, and a fire extinguisher. Don't have to look all around for any safety related gear, as long as I put it back when I am done.

Chop saw is just sitting there till I find a better place for it. Engine stand now slips under the car to clear up a bit more room. Also stuck the leaf blower there too.

Overall some progress for about an hour or so of work today. Even being a basement with the heat I was soaked at the end. Not going to finish it all in a day. But if I just keep making some small consistent progress I can get it done eventually. Also now I believe it is easier to work with and in.
