Yeah i love my m18. I have nothing bad to say about the m18
I hear ya on the m12 the other have some slimmer profiles. All of 12v have belt clips.

M18 units have belt clips too not just the M12 just FYI.
All in all you can't go wrong with Milwaukee.
I am a Milwaukee fan and a tool fan no matter what. I have blue tools (bosch), black and yellow tools(Dewalt), orange tools (ridgid) and the darker red tools (Hilti).:willy_nil

Go team Red:beer:

Go for it BlksnshN.

But remember this , Home Depot (or many of them) will honor the Harbor Freight 20 % or 25% off one single item coupon.

I think you will be able to find a combo kit cheaper that way.

I have the 18v hammer/driver (not the fuel version) and its a workhorse.

I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Yeah, I'd love to get a kit with a drill and a sawzall. Every kit I see is the drill and hex driver impact though. I don't really have a use for that.

Oh believe me , the 1/4" impact is worth having.

The Fuel version is very slick. Selectable 3 speed , and all variable.

And that new Sawzall is a bad ***

I'm sure it's a very nice unit, but I already have tools that take care of what that impact would cover. So it would just collect dust.

Is there any power difference between the 2.0 and 4.0 batteries, or is it simply more run time? Are the Batteries different between the Fuel and the older M18's?

The 4 is just a longer run time and the batteries are the same for fuel and standard

Well after 2 days of use I am very upset with the battery life. I think I either got a bad pair of batteries or a bad drill. I drilled about 35 3mm holes in some 1/8th" brass and the battery needed to be charged. The drill seemed very very warm to me. I could of drilled 1000 of those holes with my other drill no problem. And they both are using the slim pack battery.... Does this seem normal or should I look at swapping the drill or batteries..... I hate to think that's all the life I'll get out of these batteries. I planned up upgrading to the xc 4.0 packs but am worried how long those will last with how horrible the ones that came with it seem.

I've found these batteries need at least 10 cycles before they perform right.

Added this to my collection tonight. Very impressed with how well it zips lug nuts off. Really need to order up a set of 4.0 extended capacity batteries.

I second the Lord's comment. Give 'em a few more charge-discharge cycles. This has something to do with the battery chemistry getting 'formed' and has been a problem with other battery types. Haven't heard this about lithium ion, but it is not suprising.

I love the old USA made Milwaukee tools. I own one of almost every corded tool they ever made in the steel cases.

However, my experience with the new Chinese made stuff is best summarized by this:

They have made a line of tools that will outlast the warranty, not see you through a major portion of your career. Some of my old Milwaukee tools have so much use that the textured plastic has worn smooth. RIP Milwaukee.

Who uses corded these days :-/
I still keep my hole hawg and super sawzall around ....

But I reach for my Metbo Triple Gear if I need to make holes and corded...
And my Hilti 1400 Sawzall if I need one.

I was like you. I was all about good 'ole USA milwaukee....
I still have a couple steel boxes lying around. Heavy as fck, they dent, they chip, etc

I did not buy any Milwaukee Cordless till this year. Started around Oct '13. It went downhill fast (I have enough good brushless tools of another brand I've used for 6 years)

Since Oct

M18 Fuel High Torque
M18 Fuel Impact / Drill
M18 Lantern
M18 Portaband

M12 Fuel Hammerdrill
M12 Propex
M12 Chaulk Gun with all 3 barrels (qt, 10oz and sausage).

Humor me. What was you drilling to make it smoke...

I agree on some of the points. I like the old stuff, but I don't mind the weight. I'm a bigger guy though. About the only thing I like about the new cordless stuff is the battery life.

My next cordless will be a Festool or some other German make.

I was drilling about 30 3/4" holes in 8/4 ash with a sharpened paddle bit.It wasn't an easy job, but it wasn't too hard either. This drill had been giving off a smoky smell since about 6 months in. The other identical one I own is doing the same.

Hi Guys, new to this thread.

Question re: batteries
I left mine in the garage during a freeze over the winter. Out of the 12 of them, 9 of them now won't take a charge.

Is there a way to "bring them back to life" ?

I put them in the charger and after less than a minute the light goes to flashing.

Nothing worse than having a tool break down on a job .....but you can get 2 - 3 drills by going with a Festool.

I've got a Fein Turbo II as my beater, and a Festool 36AC.
Kapex, TS-75,a slew of their sanders (RO, sheet, etc) and a Mirka AC-DC sander.
Love the German stuff BUT

I would never throw the *green kool aid money* on a cordless.
I feel you get alot more for the $ with the alternative brands.
Could also consider Makita or Bosch....everyone has the preferred brands I suppose..

I started with some M12 tools, a 3/8" impact wrench and a 3/8" ratchet, but the introduction of their mini-blower convinced me to purchase my first M18 tool. I've been using a corded mini-blower to blow residual water from the crevices when I wash our vehicles and had to drag out a long extension cord each time. The Milwaukee cordless version makes it so much easier with no setup time needed plus it's more powerful with 3 speed settings.
