My latest storage efforts. Tracksaw in the ammo can and the beginnings of battery wall storage.

looks like the track saw is pushing out on the sides of your $70 packout ammo can. My jimmies are getting ruffled 😂

It pushes the sides a little bit, but straightens out enough to seal and stack when the lid is closed. I did have to cut the ribs inside to fit the saw. Fortunately I used the buy more save more to get 40% off.

Do you guys like rubber boots on your impacts or not really?
I like to keep my tools in decent shape, so yes to the boots. On my new gen 2 M12 stubby I went generic for 1/3 the price of Milwaukee, seems to fit fine. I haven’t done the rubber boot on the M12 die grinder, didn’t seem necessary.

I think I would use them if I was more worried about protecting what the impacts could bang into. Let's just say I drive shitboxes and not supercars. Therefore my impacts are free to develop the same character marks as other tools in my prestigious collection.

@dmittz - These look interesting. So it has a delayed timer to allow charging at night/non-peak or its just shut off? I think I need at least one for the air compressor if its just shut off.

Looks similar to the timer I installed for my bathroom fan, but I'll defer to @dmittz (rather than assuming).

Along those lines, what does "Repeat" do?

I use countdown timers like that on my Milwaukee chargers. I don’t like leaving the batteries plugged in on the charger unattended for days at a time, with these units I press the 2 hour button when I put the battery on and walk away. I use one of these units on my heated mattress pad, I only need that on for an hour otherwise I get way too hot in the night. I believe repeat will allow it to duplicate the cycle every 24 hours.

I’m using these with two outlets each, supposedly rated for 15 amps.

I got a couple of the new 5” grinders today. And since I hadn’t seen one discussed (that doesn’t mean **** btw). Thought I’d share an initial thought.

I think I like how more inline the attachment is to the body, I think this might help getting into a confined space but we’ll see how that pans out in real life.

I am impressed with the guards. Both are much heavier duty then the previous stamped units with one capturing both sides of the wheel. We do a ton of field cutting and mitigating spark direction plus an exploding cut-off wheel does make me happy. What I do see as an issue is not being able to see the cut line. I’ll have to see what kind of life hack can be made up for that ( like notching the shroud or something).

Anyhow here is is compared to the 4.5” grinder.

They are just a simple count-down timer.

Just a safety item. Of course battery chargers are suppose to stop charging once the battery is full, but once and a while you hear they don't and it can cause a battery fire and burn the garage down. I know its unlikely but this way I can ensure that batteries left on the charger have virtually no chance of the charger screwing up and causing a fire since the power will be shut off at the time I set.

They are sold on Amazon for a like $10.

Milwaukee M18 battery/tool question:

Got my first M18 tool last week, a 16ga straight nail gun. Also got a battery. The fit of the battery to the tool is a bit loose. Is that common with Milwaukee? Asking because with my Dewalt 20v, every battery registers tight to every tool.

Bought through a box store so I presume OEM.

Also got an m12 tool (23ga pin nailer) with battery, no issues there.

Thanks!

I can tell you that different tools has different battery fits. Some of my tools are tighter and some are looser. I will also say that none of my M18 tools have a battery fit that loose.

I don't have that (or any other nailer), but do have several other M18 tools. The batteries are tight in all of them (and stupidly tight in the charger and one of my Rover lights). Maybe they'll loosen up over time, with more usage?

Thanks for the replies. The M18 battery is a little wobbly in the charger as well, so it might be the battery. I might add a thin shim just to keep it more secure when using the nail gun.

I used to be an engineer at Milwaukee. I wouldn't add anything to the battery. Some tools are intended to be more loose on the battery fit.

In general, it's normal for batteries to be "loose". It makes it easy to assemble onto the tool, and you want the battery to be able to move so things like the contact between tool and battery terminals don't wear out.

The sequentials are old, I think they are just the basic charger with switching logic built in. They aren't bad but they aren't fast. They are more designed for overnight charging or if you have a ton of batteries and can wait for them to charge. I believe they came out before any of the newer HO batteries with the larger cells.

I don't believe there is a newer sequential charger like this one. If I recall they charge 1 at a time? Milwaukee did release some new multicharger power strip smart tech this year where you can basically plug a bunch of chargers in and the power strip moves between chargers based on amp draw. I think it is designed to not overload a 15amp circuit? There is also a dual bay supercharger that will charge 2 M18 batteries at once but I think it doesn't charge the M12 form factor.

I just went and checked it, because I find it interesting:

#48-59-1806 will charge 6 batteries sequential. https://www.milwaukeetool.com/products/48-59-1806

#48-59-1809 will charge 6 batteries, 2 simultaneously. https://www.milwaukeetool.com/products/48-59-1809

And then there is the #48-59-1817 which is the daisy chain one. 2 options for daytime fast charging or over night charging, but also 2 batteries simultaneously. https://www.milwaukeetool.com/products/48-59-1817

And they are bringing this: https://www.milwaukeetool.com/products/48-59-1804 Plus they have the older M18/M12 combined ones. …

Kind regards,
Olli

Just confirming what you already knew, these are sequential and seem about 30% slower than just a single normal kit charger. All those new 6A were a single bar out of the package. On the sequential it’s around 1:20 to full charge. On my old single charger out in the shop they were right about an hour. I’ve still got several to charge, I’m going to get a good measurement for that.
These charge 2 batteries simultaneously, right? And mange to charge all 6 (5Ah batteries (B5)) over 3 hours?

Is there a newer multi bay charger?

Kind regards,
Olli
You nailed it nicely with your follow up Olli. Something I didn’t know until last night when I was looking much deeper into these chargers is the sequential units I bought won’t do the 12A batteries which I now have four of. But we have the two chargers that came in those kits so I just need to let the guys know about that fact.

Well my unscientific test is complete. My old charger 1:28 and the new super undelux sequential 1:40 so I'm calling it a draw.

I still need to buy a couple vacuums and those will be the dual battery units. I'm gonna get a couple of those super chargers too while I'm at it ;)

Call me old skool. I keep one RapidCharger easily accessible.....I'm still in the camp of low and slow, even with my 9-12ah.....
I still use the OG charger

In a pinch, if I do need one a bit faster, I will use the RapidCharger.

I was at a rental house to replace a ceiling fan, and I didn't have a pair of wire stripper/cutter pliers w/me. I went to Home Depot & bought a Milwaukee wire stripper to do the job. I went back to the house in need of the fan repair, and I finished the job. The Milwaukee strippers worked well.

I keep one regular m18/m12 charger and one m18/m12 rapid charger hooked up at all times. For big batteries I'm done with for the day I put them on the slow charger. I have enough larger batteries that I can usually rotate the spare into the tool and not blow through the second battery. For batteries I might use again that day I put them on the rapid charger. The 3.0 HO batteries always go on the rapid charger, they take too long to charge on the regular one and I always want to pop them back on another tool. I have just enough of them to have 1 out of rotation and not get too annoyed.

I particularly like those Milwaukee wire strippers. I use those in conjunction with my romex strippers whenever I do electrical. They both have advantages over each other. I still haven't been able to get down to 1 stripper that does everything I want.

No disagreement here guys, I'm all for slow when possible. The reason for this last collection and all the concerns about charging ability is the project conditions. We have a major camera retrofit project in a courts jail. The majority of work is all steel construction (meaning walls and ceiling) with hardly any access hatches. This work will be night work after courts shuts down, so 5pm to 3am. Access above the ceiling will require removing light fixtures. And under no circumstances will I allow any of the lighting circuits to be energized in our activity areas.

So being a jail there is no such thing as a convenience receptacle and with no lights at that. AND wherever we work must be spotless by end of shift. They start reloading the place at 5am.

Can anyone here help me - this band saw seems to leak oil slowly - what you see in the pic is from about 2 months just sitting in the case. Should I worry about this? Is there an oil reserve that needs to be topped up or seals replaced? Just ignore it? Many thanks!

I didn't think the bandsaws had oil reservoirs in them. Maybe its the grease in there separating from baking in the case? Does it get super hot where you live? Wouldn't hurt to open the case up and just take a peek at it under the covers.

Any thoughts on the Milwaukee M18 rocket lights? Looking for something for the shop; lighting isn't great and I shoot video in there fairly often, too. I'm thinking the 2131-20 is the one that I want. Thoughts?

I have a bunch of magnetic lights and lights that attach directly to the batteries, so I'm good there.
