V28 and M28 are completely compatible so Milwaukee didn't really **** on anyone there. It's the V18 users that got screwed when M18 did not interchange.

And the performance of those V18 batteries absolutely sucked. The V28 didn't work so well, either, once the temperature dipped below freezing.

It took a long *** time for me to consider moving off of the original 18V NiCd tools after being burned by those V18 batteries.

Probably a good thing that there wasn't any backwards compatibility... and there must be at least 4x as many M18 tools as there were V18/NiCd tools.

The OMT's work great for this, too, assuming drywall.

I've also removed nail-in boxes by prying the anchoring side away just enough to slip in an OMT metal blade and buzz through the nails. Works incredibly well.

The construction of the walls is vintage early 50's.. The drywall is very dense and fractures like plaster (maybe some sort of plaster over drywall or something), anyway it tends to be around 3/4" thick. The boxes were nailed into the front of the wall stud and then the plaster / drywall was put on top.. so getting to the nails isn't as easy. We had one in the garage my dad beat around on (before he passed), and its a gaping hole that I still need to patch up. That's how we figured out the box was nailed to the front of the stud. Not practical today, but ...

I thought of using the OMT I have.. but I simply had to have the Hackzall.. and that proved to be better. My sawzall would have done well too, but around the residential wires we were trying to save, I was worried it would chew thru quickly.. almost too quickly to control effectively. In the end, this tool worked well..

I've been wanting a 12v hackzall since i got the M18 one... handy little ******* for sure. I carry mostly m12 on the work truck after all my M18 **** was stolen. other than the high torque M18, everything else is M12 fuel on the service truck. that saw would be handy

The V series used lithium manganese. Part of the learning curve w new technology- - they learned and switched to lithium cobalt for the M.

Strouty and others have fit the M28 batteries to the old V18 tools. You'd think it would be a smoke show but reportedly not.

Actually is anyone willing to trade their m12 hackzall for my m18? I might be willing to do that.. would have to be in like new or really good condition.. you can try to persuade me.. I'd think it over.. I'm like 50/50 on it.. for the m12 fuel I'd do that for sure.

Oh - and if anyone ever finds a killer deal on the m12 radio, I'm thinking of buying one as a gift for someone.

Ok - I got a question of my own here.. I may soon be in the market for one of the fuel SDS drills.. so my question is this. Does anyone see ANY practical differences between these two models other than the handle style? I honestly cant see a reason to pick one over the other besides just a preference.. thoughts ?? Input for anyone is a help...

Number 1 - http://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwauke...dle-Rotary-Hammer-Bare-Tool-2713-20/206931790

Number 2 - http://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwauke...1-in-SDS-Plus-Rotary-Hammer-2712-20/205334546

I'm leaning towards the first one, the "bosch bulldog" style just cause it's suppose to hit a little harder.. the physical size of them really isn't even a concern for me ( I don't think)

Also - I'm seriously considering going to Home Depot in a few minutes and buying that m18 Bluetooth speaker.. anyone know if there's a big difference in sound between that and the large boom box style radio??

You pull the trigger on this?? My HD has the compact on clearance for 150.

Youd have to pry my M12 Fuel Hackzall from my cold, dead hands :)

Ive only used it a few times, but when you need it, you REALLY need it. Rusted bolts on my pickup truck bed that only the hackzall could get to. Cutting copper pipe during demo where only the hackzall could get to. Notice the pattern? :)

Did something reckless last night, ordered the Rocket2 stand light 9.0 kit and Radius pumpkin OK light, both with free 9.0s. Would of been cheaper to get the Rocket2 bare but I want the bag so worth the extra $25 cost of that. Selling my like new Rocket1 with bag, hopefully after selling the 9s and Rocket1, the Rocket2 and bag will be $140 to me and OK pumpkin $200.

Hey, stupid question, is the blade in the fastback utility knife suppose to be loose in there?

I was expecting it to be tightly held.

Some of them do rattle around a bit, yes. IMO it's the result of these QR mechanisms. The old utility knives that swung a leaf out and then back over the blade were superior for this.

Loose on the hinge or the insert blade itself?

My Fastback is tight. Im wondering if your blade is pushed all the way in. Try pushing the black blade release button (not the blade lock) while pushing in the blade and see if it seats deeper.

Ok.. so if anyone remembers, I bought that big m18 charger radio/Bluetooth speaker (that I really have no use for) last week.. just because.. I got a friend at work that I know a long time now, he kinda did me a big favor a while back, and I've been wanting to get him something just as a "thank you" gesture.. we work for the same company now, (well, again...), but do different things. I went on a job with him one day about a month ago cause he needed help, and I was like, "man you need to get yourself a little radio or something, the silence here is driving me insane".. same day, both our phones were dying but luckily I had a little battery backup thing that got us both through the day. So finally yesterday it hit me that I should get him a small cordless radio or Bluetooth speaker.. would solve both issues for him - music/radio (even with just a Bluetooth speaker he can still listen to internet radio or news through his phone), and they usually have a USB charger built in for phones or tablets.. I noticed that day that he had the Dewalt 20v max drill and impact driver.. so I was like FINE, I'll **** it up and buy the dewalt one since he has batteries already. Been looking at the Dewalt DCR006? Bluetooth speaker for him.. watched some reviews, still seems kinda big for someone that's gotta move tools around in a bag for every job.. seen one review, guy said he felt the m12 sounded a little better.. so now I'm like **** it, I can't bring myself to buy the Dewalt, **** him and his ****** drill, he's gettin the Milwaukee, and I'll just get him a charger and battery too. Home Depot has that in a kit for like $83 ($69 bare tool). Perfect.. it's smaller, says it sounds as good or better, has a 2.1 amp USB charger for his phone too. Awesome. I start wondering, "what if the thing *****, and he thinks it's not even worth using?".. well, now I'm FORCED to find out.. SO... now I have a small m12 Bluetooth speaker sitting next to the big m18 jobsite radio..

Side note, honestly after reading some not so flattering reviews of that little speaker, I really didn't expect much.. gotta be honest, I think the thing is I great for what it is. I actually expected more outta the big guy. It's good, but you'd think it would put out better bass for its size.

now I just noticed the $83 deal isn't in stock online.. guess I'm buying an m12 starter kit.

Ha.. nope.. just found the kit on CPO for $79 free shipping..

It's the blade inside the holder, not the hinge. Feels like the mechanism holds the blade like a pin inside a hole that's too big.

I have an older husky knife that holds the blade with less slop.

I'm fine with my M12 BT speaker its so small and rugged Its also lightweight and takes up little room. I have a carabineer thru the molded lop on the top and it can attach it to a tool bag or belt or hang on a large nail.

Working alone on a job or in small garage without a lot of constant noise I think it sounds pretty ok. I played mine all weekend under the tool tent again this week plus takes up no room at all on the table.

I like it a better than my Altec Lansing H2O because of the removable and rechargeable battery design and it is louder too.

It is also way more rugged than the Monster SuperStar I have. Of the 3 the Monster does have the best overall sound quality I think

From an audiophile standpoint depending on the type of music there can be a bit of distortion at max volumes especially if your very close to it like having it on a desk or something and sitting right in front of it. There is also some vibration having it on hard surface like that too being the bass port is in the bottom. But for the most part it is totally satisfactory IMO. You also can lay it on it's side too.

And I cant see how your buddy could complain with the starter kit too!

One compact battery should easily last a long workday

Yea so, CPO has a Labor Day sale with Milwaukee stuff. Free shipping and $25 off $150. So I just ordered him the m12 speaker kit with the 1.5 battery and charger, a promo on the new style 11in1 EXC? screwdriver (he coulda used that speciality bit that day too) that comes with a free can insulater thing, and the 3.5" hardline knife. The knife is $10? cheaper I think if you buy it with a box instead of the clamshell pack. Had it sent to his house and just told him expect a box. He has no idea what I'm sending him, so he should like that stuff. No idea when I'll see him at work again so I figured better off just to ship it right to him.

I'm literally sitting here switching back and forth between the big jobsite radio and the little m12 streaming music just to play with them.. the m12 will be fine for him. It's not like he needs to fill up a room with music, it'll be sitting right next to him on a table if he uses it. I really just wanted to make sure it didn't sound like one of those cheap emergency radios.

If you're into Bluetooth speakers, you should try this one. Thing sounds amazing for the cost and size. I have nothing bad to say about it. My father sent it to me, and I was like, I don't need this thing, just send it back.. he said "just listen to it".. it never made it back in the box. It's the Oontz Angle 3 from Cambridge Soundworks. It's like $24 shipped with Amazon prime. It's about half the size of the m12 and it EMBARRASSES it.. trust me.. they make a much bigger version of it too. I can only imagine what that sounds like. I have a clock radio from Cambridge Soundworks for geez, 15 years at least. Similar to the Bose wave radio. Actually got better reviews at the time.. one of the most under rated sound hardware companies on earth.

OontZ Angle 3 Next Generation Ultra Portable Wireless Bluetooth Speaker : Louder Volume 10W+, More Bass, Water Resistant, Perfect Speaker for Golf, Beach, Shower & Home (Black) by Cambridge SoundWorks https://www.amazon.com/dp/B010OYASRG/?tag=atomicindus08-20

I just bought that too and sent it to his house.. lol. I forgot all about it. Dude, if you can spare $25, I'm telling you, you won't believe what you got for the money, and you'll be in disbelief of the sound this thing delivers for something so small.

If you stream music form your phone, I highly suggest buying the app, Equalizer Pro.. if you get the pay version, it has a whole bunch of different EQ settings, and a volume boost / amplifier that will work on whatever you play the music on.. you can import all your iTunes library to it also.. great friggin app.

Milwaukee blades? Just wondering if its some odd size or something. Blade on mine is tight (and Ive used it for prying too). Only time I had any wobble was when the blade wasnt completely seated in the gray metal housing, but I fixed that by pushing in the black button while inserting the blade all the way in.

If youre really motivated you could probably pop the side cover off the blade holder (4 phillips screws) and see whats up.

If its that loose, Id try to return it. I abuse the heck out of mine and I think its a pretty solid knife, especially for the price.

The blade on my fastback utility knife does have a little play on it. Not enough to make me concerned about the blade coming out though. That's never happened to me. At one time I carried one of those (the original with only 1 blade) everyday, and used it all the time. Best utility knife available IMO. Ive since moved onto a Leatherman, and now the 3.5" smooth blade Hardline knife instead. Milwaukee does make their own utility knife blades, and I wanna say I remember people saying that they did seem to fit a little better, but I couldn't testify to that. I have a 50 pack of the Milwaukee blades I bought for work. If I remember I'll grab my fastback on my way out and try a new blade of theirs inside it.

Whats the consensus on the M18 planer? Im replacing all the doors in the house, so looking at a planer for fitting. I found a WEN with good reviews for $43 and the Milwaukee is $199 but can get $25 off at CPO. Given its probably a one time use tool for a one time project, the WEN makes more sense...but the Milwaukee addiction is strong as we know :D

Yea let me know if you order it.. I wanna see what ya think of it. It's small enough to fit in a cupholder of a car. For like $10 u can even get a travel case for it. When I stream music using that app I mentioned with the gain turned up like 75%, that little thing puts out enough base to make it crawl across the table cause it's not heavy enough. If u like the m12 speaker, you'll love this one.

What's good is the music is much more clear and defined, even at high volume.

I'm in the middle of a door project. I'm using a Bosch corded planner. I don't think a planner is something to break the budget on. Spend the saving on tools to secure your work so you can plane better. I'm using a corded unit and cord management is not a hassle because you really can't use a planner at the install site - there a **** ton of dust.
I'd also suggest getting the one with the narrowest drivetrain on the side and handles the best. On doors, I found I had issues with divots on the end and splintering on the end, so practice on an untrimmed door before trimming the before trimming it.

Cordless might be nice if you're doing baseboard and just want to make a quick adjustment or an Ikea-type frameless kitchen cabinet install where you need to trim a panel really quick. I'd even suggest finding a jointer table on Craigslist, as it'll be better for just about every other task.

on bluetooth speakers - the Bluetooth version. You really need 3.0 or better for decent audio. Some phones and speakers have better protocols -APT-x and the like. Without these higher bandwidth protocols, the audio is pretty canned - good for familiar music you're not really listening to, but TERRIBLE for talk. Milwaukee does't list their protocol.
Another issue can be reconnects after a disconnect, connecting multiple devices, and playing well with your phone call ear dohickie. Some bluetooth chipsets do it better than others.

I just bought a new fuel screwgun. It's been sweet for a week and I haven't really used it much but have recently noticed it doesn't respond when I pull the trigger? I've changed to a brand new battery and the same results. If I take the battery out and re insert it the drill works again. Anyone have this problem?
Its under warranty and I will return it, I'm just wondering if its something else or maybe water got in the drill? Anyways similar experiences appreciated.

Hey guys haven't been on in a while. Thinking about buying a new impact gun tomorrow. Went to HD today and looked at the Milwaukee's and got totally confused. Can anybody explain difference between M18, M18 Fuel and "Red" Lithium (or something like that). Got two jobs coming up and would like to buy a new impact gun. One involves installing a bunch of Tapcons in cement (pilot hole to be drilled separately) and the other involves taking down about 200 12' sections of shelving tracks attached to wall with #3 phillips screws. Yeah, I probably have the tools to get the job done already, but feel like getting something new with new batteries that will make job run faster. Thanks. CG

"Red Lithium" is their marketing name for their batteries. M18 Fuel tools have brushless motors and will have more power and longer run time on the same battery compared to their M18 non Fuel equivalent.

They also have their mid-tier M18 brushless impacts as well, which are normally a little less than the fuel. Hierarchy below:

-M18
-M18 Brushless
-M18 Fuel

I had absolutely no idea there was non Fuel brushless. I guess I didn't give wrong information exactly but incomplete to be sure. At least I learned something.

My apologies.

The 2 on the right are the compact 2701 drill. They don't say Fuel because Milwaukee does not classify them as such

Think the M12 stick is going to be discontinued with the new M1 light coming out? The M12 price drop and the magnet clearance perhaps suggests it. Unless its going to be updated to include a magnet in the package... perhaps a trueview boost.

At $20+ I never considered it. Got 4 at $12 after the disc, 2 for mine, one for friends, other for a stick I am gonna sell.

I'll guess the magnet just doesnt sell well enough to the general public.. without this forum most wouldn't even know it existed.
