Figured the deal with the sawzall + 5.0 battery was pretty fair, going to grab the grinder next, my local home depot stocks them and was offering the deal so i grabbed it when inside getting other stuff. Battery rings up as 129.99 and then discounts as - 129.99, can I return the battery and get the tool for 40 dollars?

Also, my first impressions are not that great. I use a rigid sawzall (gen5x) everyday at work, and its great, does everything we ask of it so that's my comparison here, but why would Milwaukee make the blade release/lock mechanism out of plastic? The thing twists rather hard and it seems like an obvious point of failure...no? No trigger time with it, so maybe I'm just complaining :lol_hitti

Return for full price, no. Take a closer look at your receipt, it will give you all the information on what each item is valued.

Check out the Milwaukee deal thread. I've posted several times on how to figure out what each item will cost for the offers that you get a 'free' tool at HD.

I love my 2721-20 (one-key version). I've never had a problem with the blade change. I haven't torn it apart (yet), but I have a feeling that is plastic/rubber over a metal piece. I really don't think it would hold up otherwise.

Au contraire.

I think you've stepped from darkness into the light...

.

Before I made the jump, I popped a socket on it and tested it on the lug nuts of a new f550 service truck. Removed them like they were trim screws. Lol.

Yes you are correct. I have seen the light! Praise be!

Thanks! I knew I had read somewhere that it was not full price should I return it, but I couldn't remember where! Without posting in the threads or saving them it's hard to remember exactly where I read what haha.

That being plastic over metal would make sense and would be a good idea as it's then easier on the fingers, let's hope you're right! Only played with it for a few minutes, might lug it to work tomorrow for some fun I suppose. Its ment to be for my home box but I dont have any projects for it currently

I have been thinking about supplementing my red with some green. There are some things that aren't available in red (18v infiltrator), supposedly the nailers are better, and somethings that arent worth the price difference. I mean can a fan really be twice as good? Please tell me if it is.

Anyway do I bite the bullet and have a seperate battery platform or use adapters. I dont see that the Ryobi Batters are any cheaper than the equivalent M18. How do you guys like the adapters. Also should I buy that one off Ebay or see if dowmace or PLC268 are still willing to print one. The Printed one looks like It has better balance and doesnt face the battery backwards.

While I could certainly sell some more printed battery adapters (I still have the parts laying around), I'll be honest, the surebonder branded adapter is very nice and a better product. My price would be about the same ($30 per adapter).

I bought one of the surebonder adapters for my own use, and it's very nice and sturdy. It's definitely pretty heavy though.

Just got the 2557 with boot in today. Love it so far. Much louder than I thought it would be, especially with the boot on it. Seems the boot echos the ratchet mechanism, but it's all good

Dang. That’s a bummer to read. I was looking forward to buying one of these because I thought they would be quiet.

Working on slowly moving from Ryobi to Milwaukee and just got my first one, the M18 Fuel Surge impact driver. Love how compact it is and that the included charger works with both 12v and 18v batteries.

I would next like to replace my 12v Ryobi driver that I use for light duty around the house. Looking at the M12 Fuel hammer drill driver (2504-20). Is the hammer feature on a 12v tool even worth it for light duty?

No, in my opinion. I don't use the hammer function on my 18v drills. For how not good they are, I use a dedicated "rotary hammer" instead. I don't drill concrete type stuff alot, so I'd rather have the regular drill which should have less wobble or something.

I don't think so either, BUT there are a ton more hammer drills floating around for sale, than non. Milwaukee sells a lot more of the kits that contain the hammer drill, both 12v & 18v, so for what it's worth I doubt you would pay any more for the function

It's available for pre-order in August. Pretty sure that's what Milwaukee meant. The distributors are committing to shipment in September...

Milwaukee didn't say delivered in August... Pretty sure they said available for ordering in August...

Yeah, going back through my browser history it looks like they were announcements from the Milwaukee event in May, so quite a way out. Stuff like https://toolcraze.net/2018-milwaukee-m12-fuel-1-4-3-8-1-2-stubby-impact-wrenches/

September is still fine then :)

In the past the hammer drill variants have had a little more runout compared to the non-hammer drill variants. They may have gotten better with the more recent generation.

I have the M12 non-fuel rotary hammer that is infinitely better than the hammer function on any drill. I drilled a little over 100 3/8" x 2-2.5" deep holes over the course of a weekend. Maybe 15-20 seconds per hole? The M18 Fuel hammer drill (first generation) struggled to the point that it was never going to happen.

Thanks. That’s what I’m seeing after diving deeper. The price and spec difference between the 2503 and 2504 is negligible. The M12 fuel hammer drill has more combo deals available at HD (free m12 jigsaw). So I may as well get the one with hammer function even if I won’t use it!

Ok, I'll be the dissenting opinion. I have the latest M12 hammer drill and find it perfect for around the house use. I have drilled numerous holes in my block walls with it and it is much faster than my other non-hammer drills. It's certainly not a replacement for a rotary hammer (I have a corded Makita rotary hammer, too), but using a rotary hammer for the holes I made (1/4"-3/16" on block and stucco walls) would be silly.

I should have elaborated further earlier. While I like knowing having the function, the couple times I thought I would use it, I ended up only having bits that were masonry bits. Since then on the few occasions I have drilled concrete, I actually used these Bosch Multi-purpose bits in my Surge impact. Awesome bits.

There's 2 different Bosch sets like that, one made in germany other china, think the one you linked to is the germany set, other one aint worth a penny.

I have an old craftsman corded hammer drill that I was using to drill 5/32 holes in week old concrete to anchor my shed. I have a corded Milwaukee rotary hammer that I didn't have a 5/32 bit for... until I drilled 5 holes. Then I went off to Lowes and grabbed the proper SDS bit to drill the rest. Once you go rotary hammer, you never go back.

What are people using to keep tools relatively non-greasy? It seems that the softer rubber that Milwaukee use absorbs more grease and oil than the harder stuff that Hitachi used on my older tools.

Any suggestions on cleaning the grips etc?

I use the household degreaser to wipe clean once a while.

when they get dusty (like a sander or that M12 buffer), i use an air gun to blast most of it off.

if they are greasy (or still dusty), i use Tub O Towels:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00022W4ZU/?tag=atomicindus08-20

it gets the grease off without wetting up the tool a lot. i am careful around vents, and i remove the batteries first. i also use these to clean off the batteries, although i never go into the area where the contacts are, either in the tool or the battery. those areas dont seem to get dirty (or i am not paying enough attention).

at the end of the "session", i collect the tools i used, clean them off using the above towels, and put them away. sometimes i need to find the tool i put in an unusual place, because it is missing from the drawer or cabinet. this way, the dirt never gets to far out of control, and the drawers stay cleaner, since only clean tools are put away.

The CPO 15% was one day only, best to wait for Acmes labor day coupon.

Even still tho, those rebates for the extra items seem to be offered by Milwaukee, the 15% off coupon just saved you a little money on the original price of the kit, right? You can pick the 2432-22 up for 389.99 from home depot, so its really still a good pickup, or am I missing something?

99% of the Milwaukee rebates don't apply to HD. HD would rather have final price be the one you pay, and not deal with rebates.

Used the lil m12 inflator for the first time finally on an actual tire repair.. that little thing is simply amazing.. ill be leaving it in my company vehicle from now on. Was forced to use the supplied compressor that comes with the little dodge pro master city’s on Friday. Its a 12v cigarette lighter plug in. Not even considering how slow the thing is, with it only running for 2 or 3 minutes it was so hot you could barely touch it, and it blew out the cigarette power port inside the van too. The Milwaukee is much faster. So much so, its not even worth going to a gas station anymore to check tire pressure again.
