The straight die grinder is only 21,000 max, the RA is 24,500. Straight die grinder is not recommended for use with cut off wheels larger than 2" either.

Interesting info on both the max rpm and number of speed modes I did not know that. Thks

And course accessory sizing too a 2" wheel not always as commonly found as a 3"

For me I rather have the die grinder than a dedicated cut off wheel tool. Cut off wheels are not what I will be mainly using in it. I use my M18 angle grinder with 5" cut off wheels for that.

The straight die grinder is only 21,000 max, the RA is 24,500. Straight die grinder is not recommended for use with cut off wheels larger than 2" either. But yeah, for use with cut off wheels only, not that great of a value for that purpose IMO.

The cut off wheel I have pictured is an old 3" wheel that has worn down to 2.25" inch, 1/16" thick. I have 2.5" 1/32" wheels that I plan on using with the straight die grinder if I ever need to.

I never knew you could use the die grinder like that.. I’m here at one Home Depot about to go to another because the line is so long to get in.. but thinking about getting another fuel hackzall or another vacuum.

After a bit of use I think I know why they limited the straight one to only 3 speeds (lower max RPM)... vibration. If I put in something that is out of balance like a wire wheel or grinding stone it vibrates a bit at certain RPMs. Doesn't vibrate bad but I guess it depends on the accessory. With carbide burrs or the cut off arbor it's smooth.

In the battery compartment there are rubber pads & a spring so the battery fits in tight. It's the battery that can make rattling noises. My RA grinder doesn't have any of this. The only other M12 tool I have is the Fuel ratchet which doesn't have any of this either.

When I worked on cars for a living I never owned a cut off tool. I also used a straight air die grinder with a cut off wheel arbor cause I used it with carbide burrs a lot too. Not ideal as I assume an actual cut off tool is more powerful but it worked fine for me. Using a cut off wheel arbor in a die grinder adds length but sometimes that came in handy for me.

The M12 straight die grinder is recommended for use with only 2" wheels so it might not work that well as a cut off tool but I'll only use it like that for light duty.

I have lots of M12 tools Yup can't say I've noticed the rubber bumpers inside any before

I have to wonder now how intentional that is and if maybe its not going to be exclusive to just the grinder...over time more than few have talked about loose batteries on M12 tools because of vibration while in use...Multi tool comes to mind

Just looked at my cutoof tool (I'm thinking purchased it like just over one a year maybe) :headscrat)

Not any different than the rest that I can see and I never really notice vibration with it ether at least not enough to mention. RPM is similar so maybe the long straight driveline of the grinder could be the difference tho :dunno:

My older M12 (non-Fuel) 1/4" hex impact is making funny noises. It's been used hard lately putting in a couple thousand screws for my metal roof. I'm only halfway done. Should this hex impact die, which M12 hex impact should I buy next? M12 regular, M12 Fuel, or M12 Fuel Surge?

I'd vote for M12 Fuel

-22 kits have been as low as $114 on some recent holiday special deals

I have two of the brushed M12 great little tools and also a first gen 2 speed Fuel but the new little 4 mode Gen 3 Fuel is awesome IMO

Ah I see, I had no idea about people complaining about loose batteries in some M12 tools. Good to know.

I think you may be on to something. My guess if the accessory is larger in diameter & not well balanced, the long length of the inline die grinder body would amplify the vibration at the battery.

Like today I put on a 2.5" cut off disc. New it wasn't perfectly concentric, gave a bit of vibration at high rpm. After a cut or two the wheel worn down concentric & the slight vibration went away.

So like with your cut off tool & the RA die grinder, because the spindle is not inline with the body vibration from the accessory is not much of an issue.

My RA die grinder has a white plastic stick that I guess serves a similar purpose. I think it was in one of AvE's BOLTR videos where he talked about this teflon stick or whatever on another M12 tool that is to help eliminate the play for the battery. It's not for aligning the case or keeping it together cause there is a screw right next to it.

My M12 stick light has that metal clip like your cut off tool shown. But that's just for keeping the case together as there is no screw in that area. My Fuel ratchet doesn't have that clip since there is a screw there.

So like you I wonder if we'll see more of this dampening features in future M12 tools.

I'm guessing Milwaukee scissors have been around for a while but I only recently found out about them. I've been using kitchen type shears & tin snips in the garage forever. Finally got tired the curved blade on the kitchen shears. Been using the Milwaukee scissors for about a month now & I love em. Thinking about picking up their offset scissors but not sure if I'll like the serrated blade on them.

Any recommendations for a replacement for the Easy Load string trimmer head? I can't get it to stop feeding string.

Thanks

Is the spring still in? That happened to me before I realized I never put the spring back in.

I was wondering about that - I don't remember ever seeing a spring, but that's sounds like the solution. Thanks!

That makes sense. I can't find a parts diagram or picture online. I'd appreciate it if someone could post a pic of the spring.

Thanks

My first post/contribution here on the forums (spent a few months reading all the great content - didn't know there were so many tools I needed!) - see if this helps out:

Yes that's helpful. I looked for the head part by itself, but had no luck.

Matzner,

I have one of these and it is a great trimmer. There are some bad internet reviews that relate to problems with the spool.

Read the reviews on the trimmer head on the Milwaukee site here:

https://www.milwaukeetool.com/Products/Accessories/Miscellaneous/49-16-2714#sp-reviews

Maybe the head is cracked? Check it over closely.

Good luck with a fix. Mine has worked fine, but obviously there have been some issues.

Got me the straight die grinder today from the $25 off stay at home sale. Picked up a cut off wheel arbor from HF. Was surprised to see the COO was USA for a HF brand (not that it means much to me). I wonder if they'll come out with a boot for the straight die grinder too (only want one cause I have on on the right angle)?

I wasn't planning on getting a die grinder but the right angle with two 6.0 batteries popped up locally for $180 (all new in box).

Curious if HF carries a good selection of wheels for these?
Which are the most useful?

This will take over trying to use a drill in tight spaces.

Thanks

Fedex came at lunch :) Found the "Free XC6.0 w/ M12 kit" Hackzall deal still available on Toolup after it dissapeared from Toolnut. Brings my battery corral to (1) XC6.0, (1) XC4.0, (2) CP3.0, and (4) CP2.0 and a charger in both my garage and basement:bounce: I think I can safely switch to hunting tool-only deals now :)

My "tools to cut stuff" draw is bit less empty now :) It fits in the HF Gen2 44" chest lower drawers with about 1/4" of clearance.

attachment.php

I think I'll need to drill a new row of holes with better spacing on my battery rack:

Man that brings back memories, I used to have a RC10GT too.

Nice! I bought it with a Thunder Tiger .15 that was alway a pita to get running. It sat for probably 15 years before I put a Traxxas .15 in it a couple years ago. I've got about a quart through it. Whenever my local shop opens back up (post COVID) I need to grab another gallon

They're on the expensive side compared to amazon. My advice is to get a kit from amazon like this one. It'll give you a few of everything so you can play around a little and figure out what works for you. Then from there you can just order what you use. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DBZ5PDT/?tag=atomicindus08-20

I have one of these cases and it's nice to have a few of all the different kinds in there so it's all organized and easy to grab what I want. I also have a small tote with cut off discs, wire wheels, the wrenches, a pair of safety glasses, etc.

I broke the chuck on my MW 2604-20 today. Anyone know a replacement that might be more durable? Thanks.

Nice, sounds like fun! My first RC was a Schumacher gast truck. Got the RC10GT after that. I had an OS .12 in it. I loved that truck & AE products. Had a bunch of MIP stuff too. I don't have the RC10GT anymore but I still have my Kyosho gas 4WD touring car (GP10?)& a Tamiya front mounted motor electric touring car chassis kTA01 I think is, I forget). They're pretty outdated these days though.

My buddy has been trying to get me back into. He built a track in his backyard for stadium trucks. Electric RCs are crazy now compared to the old NiCad & brushed motors days!

I recently replaced the chuck on my 2704, post #21584. Was gonna get the Rohm but I cheaped out & went with the 3rd gen Fuel MW chuck. Night and day difference in feel, no more collar locking up or drill bits slipping. Not yet anyway, hope it holds up.

Ported & polished my drill press table yesterday with the M12 straight die grinder. Unfortunately it made no difference in the 1/4 mile. :lol_hitti

Nice, awesome deal! The only things I have from HF for the die grinders are the roloc holder that I use with the right angle & the cut off wheel arbor for the straight grinder.

The RA I mainly use with scotchbrite discs, 3M bristle discs, & carbide burrs (Matco). I haven't tried any of the scotchbrite discs from HF, just their sanding discs which aren't that great.

Chainsaw came today. I had already sawed through two bullets in another tree I cut down before this video. The battery was about halfway used up at this point, too. Some nice fresh red oak. It's not a professional saw, but it's a solid performer in the "farm" style saws. I like it. Tons of torque.

Great... I bought mine for the 3 times a year I need one. Did you have to tighten the chain? I have never owned a chainsaw..... bought Oregon oil.... I also got all the yard tools and poll saw which uses oil. Did you have to drain as I heard it leaks?

Please excuse the crassness but when I saw those extra long burrs; “I could really f*** some s*** up with those” was the thought that instantly went through my mind.

All joking aside, did you have any trouble controlling them with the tool?

You got the coolest set of burrs I've ever seen...

An awesome grinder! I just got a RA grinder a couple weeks ago.

And a freakin' drill press with a Maltese Cross on it! How cool is that!

Haha. It was ok. I used 2 hands. I have normal short length burrs but they were too short for what I needed to do. Needed to reach in that bore & the T-slots on the other side. Just wanted to clean it up a bit before paint. These were all I had on hand that would work.

They for porting (IIRC) but I've never tried to port a cylinder head before. Haven't used them in over 15 yrs, I'm surprised I still remembered which drawer they were in.
