I think it's time for a new M18 Drill...My first M18 purchase was a 2602 at least 5 years ago, probably longer. Was drilling a 2" hole saw through some 1/8" steel and it started smoking. Figured that it was too hot, so ran it unloaded for a bit and after 2-3 seconds there was more smoke and glowing red through the vent holes in the back. Brushes are still good so must be something in the armature...

Looks like there are two options in this "class" of drill...

2704 ~7/8" longer, Has light by the trigger (good), different looking chuck and side handle

2804 Newer(?), but is it any better? Shorter (good), light by the battery (bad).

Looking for a high power, long lasting drill. Any reasons to go with one vs the other that I'm missing?

I'll probably buy a M12 (2503?) for small, compact, lighter duty work (pilot holes and such)

I've been impressed by my 2804. I've posted pics before but it's basically the same size as the original Brushless (non-Fuel) compacts like the 2701, but packs a punch.

I was recently using it in my notcher, but only with 1.5" hole saws. It did great at that size.

Got my second 0880 vac and was able to move over the holster from my previous V28 vac. So much better - I'm not opening that lid everytime. This was one design fail when they remodeled the 0880

Had a discussion about this with my buddy not to long ago, I prefer the old model and he likes the new one. I still wish I never sold my 2nd old model before and didnt replace it with the new version.

There is a Milwaukee 1/8" collet that will fit the die grinder. It's on the service parts list. Part number is 42-77-0405. You might want to also grab another collet nut, as I believe the collets stick into the collet nuts after the first assembly. Collet nut part number is 48-68-0031.

Oh no I like that the new ones can take 12.0s but unlatching the lid each time is dumb. Well, the hose lock on the new ones is dumb too unless you have needle nose pliers for fingers. Ok, and the power switch relocation is dumb also 'cause I used to be able to hold the handle and flip the switch with a single hand....

Ok maybe the old style was better

I actually like the hose placement/storage. I don't use mine really often though, just for portable situations when needed. I use my normal size shop vac most of the time.

I never had the old one but I do agree about the switch, it's *** backwards & should be on the hose side for one hand operation.

Although not that much of a big deal for me but I hate that the hose doesn't fit standard 1-1/4" accessories even though some websites state it is. That's plain stupid.

What is the prices for those? Pretty expensive on ebay for the collet.

The nozzle size on the new one is different than the old one, think the old one is 1 1/4. I have 4 Milwaukee vacuums and they have 3 different nozzle sizes between them. Oh and don't get me started on the different dust port sizes on their tools.

Yup, I have the new one. When I heard that I immediately went to check. Sure enough none of my 1-1/4" stuff fits. Why make vacuum ports (on anything) that don't fit standard sizes! That so f'n stupid!

I had some 1 1/4" extension tubes, and a couple nozzles leftover from an old Craftsman square box portable vac (similar shape to the Milwaukee) that **** the bed on sheetrock compound dust...

And by slightly trimming back the large end of the solid tube they fit snug on the Milwaukee flex hose

Former Bosch 18volt user here, jumping over to Milwaukee M18 I think as the chuck on my 10yo Bosch drill is wearing out (the teeth that grip the bits are pretty worn down, and it hasn't been wanting to hold bits tight as well....new chuck/gearbox from Bosch is $73).

I am a DIY guy and typically use either my impact or drill at least a few times a week for various tasks. The only reason I bought Bosch 10 years ago is that we bought our first house and got a nice gift card to Menards, and Bosch was the best they had. Fast forward 10 years and it seems like Milwaukee really has an edge on power, size, and price. I bought the 2997-20 combo kit, and got a free M18 hacksaw to boot.

First impressions of Milwaukee vs 10yo well used Bosch:

Fit and finish of Milwaukee looks great, and I hope that they hold up as well as my Bosch has (grip overmold fitment and condition).

I have big hands (XXL gloves fit me best) and the Milwaukee grips feel really good in my hands, better then my Bosch with less pointer finger and thumb interference (pointer finger on the trigger doesn't easily touch my thumb when in use).

The battery to tool interface is pretty sloppy on the Milwaukee, easily double to triple the amount of play my 10yo Bosch has, which makes the tool feel cheap imho.

Other then that, I also have the Milwaukee M12 non-fuel ratchet, and I am looking forward to building up a nice collection of Milwaukee tools. Hoping they hold up.

Haha that's fine, I'll just suffer through using my corded Milwaukee sawzall until I find a good deal on an M18.

I used it twice today. Once to cut up some wooden benches I removed from our deck, and again to cut a metal snow fence post for our local mountain bike club. So far so good!

How is the power with the M12 Fuel Hackzall? I know I've read the non-Fuel version isn't good for much, so I'm hoping the Fuel would be a useful tool.

I have a DeWalt 20V XR for larger tasks, just thinking smaller tasks where doing it one handed would be a lot easier.

I think ya answered your own question there...

You can wield that Hackzall like a light saber. It is a serious pruning weapon if you ever have need of that. I'm getting ready to overhaul my Pool Equipment and it will be a treat dealing with 2" PVC. That was the first thing I cut with it the day I got it. For some reason I can never cut PVC straight. I chucked up 2" PVC in a vice and started slicing. This thing was like cutting pepperoni slices for a pizza. Cut thin slices of PVC and straight. I've cut shocks out of my Land Cruiser. Cut a bunch of Bolts and Steal pipe. Sliced the ends off 2" steel bushings in my car to remove them. Total Beast for something you can hold in one hand.

Wait a second, the collet inside the nut broke?

Yes I was wondering why the carving tool was sliding upwards and so I decided to unscrew it and it just fell all apart..

Btw I need to get a new part that screws around the top I just have to get the part number.

I'm sure they will RMA it for you. That sux. Doesn't help in the mean time. You could try one from a Dremel, it probably would fit but you might want to use the collet nut from the Dremel as well in case the shape of the nose is different.

That is the m18 die grinder not the dremel equivalent. That might be up for a refresh though. Good buy at 110.

Oh I know I was shocked to see the price drop I was going to buy it.. HD online is not a sale price so I might pass but might try one more store before home.

I’m not sure how true the app is on saying what’s in stock. They all say ship to store

With the rust on this car I’m thinking about getting the high torque model but it’s huge.. the mid torque worked but it took at least 10 seconds before it even started to turn just a little.

But over here (Aus) they don't come with a case as a skin only. Before i go hunting for a case that someone isnt using, has anyone sorted out a packout for it? Or are they too long?

To answer my question, from this photo it looks like it would only fit in the largest packout:

And vertically too. So probably not worth it.

I just got this drill/driver combo ($200 and the ratchet is for sale bc I got the fuel) to replace my 7-8yr old ryobis. I’m waiting to come across a project that they can’t handle so I can get M18s, but so far these things have been absolutely incredible. More than happy!

I had good luck with a mail in warranty repair. The turn around time was pretty quick at just under a week including ship time.

The middle box is what it is in... i do have the blow mold case for my v28.... don't think it will fit any other way when I tried not that I care, like the charger in there and spare blades.

The Milwaukee addiction thread! [emoji4]

I was looking at the packout set again thinking about getting the middle size for my tools.

Picked these two up today8e89aa74b3b3ac4a8ecc1bed5eea5cbd.jpg

Btw didn’t Milwaukee used to sell the combo M18/M12 charger? Was that one still sequential?

I would not hesitate to scoop that die grinder at that price!

Its a great tool, ive used one extensively. Only drawbacks is two wrench collect release instead of a button and longer then a corded version.

Why any tool company designs a collet that requires two wrenches still is beyond me.

I spent enough today in tools lol It's odd I went to 4 different locations and this is the only store where I've seen the tool on the shelf and marked down.

I was asking on reddit some where saying sometimes they will sell the display and sometimes they wont it's too much to go back and forth in stores.

Yes the Drexel chucks will work. I have true Dremel keyless chucks on both of my Milwaukee m12 rotary tools. There are a lot of the dremel accessories will work with the m12 rotary tool. The right angle attachment, the sharpener attachment and I have a few others that work perfectly

This. I feel like I'm in Doc's shed in Back to the Future with two wrenches on the spindle/collet. It's just so f'n awkward I often end up lightly clamping the tool in a vise 'cause you almost need three hands.

Yes, I understand you can usually position the wrenches to squeeze them together with one hand, but getting there is frustrating. A spindle lock would be much appreciated
