The Milwaukee addiction thread! [emoji4]

Feel like giving us a review of the pump after having given it a hard life?

Here's a quick DIYer review... Have had the M18 transfer pump for two years. It followed me home one day from Home Depot for $179. Not sure if I use it as hard as some of the folks here as I don't use it every day to put food on the table. Probably use it once or twice a week for miscellaneous stuff around the house. Things I use it for include draining the pool, a small pond, and emptying rain barrels. I also use it to power a hose powered pool leaf catcher from time to time. During the CA PGE power shutdowns it came in real handy emptying bath tub water, etc. as I did not want to deal with an overflowing sewage basin in the basement (I forgot the grinder pump is 220v when I bought my 120v generator). Luckily I have not had to resort to using the transfer pump to drain the sewage basin directly yet.

Am somewhat surprised that no one else has had to replace the impeller yet, but thinking through my use pattern (ie tool abuse) I could see why it's time. The water I pump is dirty and I sometimes forget to put a filter on the end of the hose and it allow it to **** grime, muck, and leaves. Additionally, I often turn on the pump and let it pump a barrel dry while I get distracted by other things. While it does have an automatic shutoff, its not that automatic and the pump may run dry for 10 min or so where it gets pretty warm. Doubt this did the impeller much favors.

I think what did the impeller in was actually my pumping of washing machine water through to sprinkler to water my lawn. This is from a barrel in my basement (10 ft drop), 25 ft to the pump and through a 50 ft hose and then the sprinkler. It usually pushes water fine and I get a nice spray of my grey water all over my lawn and I get the feeling of redemption for helping save the earth. This helps make up for my contribution to overpopulation of the planet, gas guzzling cars, and compulsive purchase of tools. Anyways someone in the house washed a stuff animal in the laundry which in turn jammed up the sprinkler with lint and caused undue stress on the poor pump. I only realized this 30 min later when there was no water coming out...

One additional note is that I tend to leave this pump outside in the CA sun day in day out. Am surprised the plastic hasn't degraded and faded like my kid's power wheels. Must be the high quality plastic they use.

If you could let us know what you find including part numbers I'd sure appreciate it.

Am not sure if I am going to gamble with the Jabsco or Johnson impellers to be honest. I have learned the hard way too many times and hate returning stuff when I am responsible for ordering the wrong thing. Before I bother with the warranty or calling Milwaukee I actually shoe goo'ed the impeller back together. I figure I have nothing to lose at this rate.

The right part number is the Milwaukee 49-16-2771 Replacement Flexible Impeller Kit

I'd crack it open and check for anything obvious. Maybe it is an easy fix. You also might want to disconnect the bent drive shaft and see if it works with that disconnected. If it is binding up the computer might stop it from trying to turn. If that is it, you should be able to square it up and get it working again.

Part of the problem is that the wet well looks very dry...there should be some glycerine or similar in there to help keeping it from eating the impeller...

Good point the last time I gave the impeller some silicon grease love was last year sometime. I also admittedly don’t flush it with clean water either as per the instruction manual. Guessing simple green infused water sitting in there for days probably helped kill the impeller too.

Pole saw arrived. Going to put it through it’s paces later today fighting back the jungle if the family lets me. Want to see if this thing can overheat 9.0’s like the m18 chainsaw.

Kind of wish the head could articulate at a slight angle. Thought the slight angle of my Remington pole saw so the user can hook it on branches was pretty smart.

Was also thinking what the heck I am going to do with 2 pole saws now. Probably going to use the Milwaukee as the primary since cordless always makes life easier, but invariably will get it snagged up in a tree. Figure the Remington makes a good backup to rescue the Milwaukee.

I find this interesting. The last few days I have been helping a friend drop 6 trees in his yard. Trees range from 1” to 28” in diameter. Gas chain saw is doing everything 16” or bigger. But it’s worked great. We have run the 5.0, 6.0, 9.0, and 12.0 batteries in the M18 chainsaw and haven’t overheated a single battery yet. Really weird because I hear a lot of guys talk about it. I let the saw do the work and haven’t had any issues. My dad have the pole saw and I used it the other day. Your going to love it.

Do me a favor and take the bar off that pole saw to check for little rubber bumpers if you don't mind? I took mine apart to clean it after first use and I saw space for 2 little rubber bumper in there but there was only 1. I'm wondering if I somehow lost one or mine was missing or if there just isn't 2 in there.

Also, and this is just me being LAZY, what kind of oil are you guys using for the pole saw?

Chain bar or extension bar? Didn’t see any rubber material under the chain bar...

Here’s what I have been using. Whatever I can buy by the gallon. Would probably use that Stihl bio stuff if it were sold in gallons locally. Caught my kid playing with the chainsaw shavings.

Pole saw was great today. I really enjoyed the freedom to move around untethered taking down dead branches and whatever else deserved to be cut. Made two large piles of brush in a half hour.

I am doubtful it will cook the non high output 5.0’s and 9.0’s. While the power is good. It definitely doesn’t scream like a banshee like the chainsaw. I wonder if they neutered this slightly to preserve the shaft. Am also going to try it out without the extension shaft.

The angle grinder and the chainsaw are the only tools I managed to trip the overheat safety mechanism on the non HO batteries. With the chainsaw this is usually when bucking hardwoods such as ash and oak and really leveraging the bucking spikes.

So, I need to cut a basement floor ~50 linear feet, probably 3-4" thick. I really don't want a gas powered cutoff saw due to being inside and all that.

Is the M18 9" cutoff saw up to the job?

Or would the MX 14" cutoff saw be the better choice?

M18 is ~$900, comes with a 12AH battery and rapid charger. Paired with my 9AH battery should be able to keep working while one battery charges and I break out the cement?
MX is ~$2000 and I have nothing in the MX platform to date. Only one battery and 90 minute re-charge time. Should get about 12 feet of cut per battery (estimated)

Both saws come with diamond blades so that's a wash

Thoughts, Other options?

Procrastination pays off (this is my rationalization...) The 2786-20 9" M18 Cutoff Saw is bundled in a kit for July which includes the saw, abrasive blade, diamond blade, rapid charger, 2) 12.0's and the 2820-21WS M18 Water Sprayer Kit for $900

2786-22HD

2786-22hd-sprayer.jpg

My floor is ~3" thick so this will cut deep enough...

My other thought is a Stihl TS500i 14" cutoff saw which will be ~$1750 by the time I'm out the door with a blade. It's a lot more saw, but also a lot more money.

I'll get more use out of the M18 12.0's and backpack sprayer for other projects vs the Stihl

Not sure what I'll do, but it seems like a good deal so figured I'd share

Acme had it on sale last week for $829 and they still don't charge me tax, got 2 for me and a buddy.

There's a sticky at the top of every forum page.....

In other news I somehow missed that Milwaukee released a 3.0 for the USB batteries. As much as I use my lights (esp headlamp), I ordered one last night from HD for $29

I got a pair of headlamps that USB charge. I know the battery is fairly large for a headlamp but HOLY **** to they take forever to charge off of USB. I wish they had updated to USB-C for those. I'm sure that will be their next revision.

Looking at the compressor, seriously why is it not packout compatible. If they come out with a $100 packout mount for the thing, I am trading all my tools in for black & decker tools lol.

I somehow have a bunch of the batts and the standalone chargers, so I just swap batteries like any other tool. No tool downtime that way.

I bet in like 5-7 years when USB-C is fading out for something better Milwaukee will go USB-C. IOW they're always one step behind on technology like that.

And yeah, after using C I don't understand why anyone would want mini USB

Reposting something that was lost yesterday.

In terms of weight/vs performance the 2.0 batteries are no brainers over the 1.5. And I agree the 3.0 is worth the slight weight increase for the High Output capabilities. Of course $$$ can affect some of those decisions.

attachment.php

Above is my own spreadsheet. The new HO batteries are said to deliver the power equivalent to 15A corded. I haven't been able to find an Amp corded equiv for the 9.0 HD (just know it's less). The Amps column use to compare the CP weight to the XC weight (which is just approx), so it serves dual purpose now.

Below may represent the true amps of the batteries. The corded example takes the volts and amps we know to calculate the watts. Using the same watts for 18v the amps would have to be 100 for the power to equal the HO batteries. In the middle row I tried to get to the Amps for the HD battery. I put the "?" when I am not sure of my result.

attachment.php

This is all based on my research and calculations. If anyone has more knowledge on the topic or any updates/corrections please let me know.

Milwaukee 48-22-9486T PACKOUT Trays for Socket Sets

Has anyone seen these in person and if so will a regular Proto or Craftsman set fit these trays?

I have a couple of the slimline Packout cases and my old socket sets are now in Milwaukee bags on rails. These look like a far better solution.

Transfer pump back in action. No surprises but the shoe goo couldn’t hold the impeller together.

37752cade910addf645c67bf88874cc3.jpg

My stubbornness got the better of me and I ended up ordering a Jabsco 6303-0001 impeller knockoff off of eBay for $12. I saved a whole $20 and took a gamble as it always drives me nuts that there is such a large parts markup on branded repackaged stuff.

Note the 6303-0003 is for for fresh water whereas the 0001 is for salt water apparently. Exact same dimensions as the Milwaukee plus the brass keyhole. Not sure if there are any material differences between saltwater vs freshwater. They both seem to be made of Nitrile. Was going to order a green oem one off of Amazon but they were out of stock. The green one on Amazon has a plastic keyhole vs the original Milwaukee one which has a brass one if that matters.

2fc96719920fe5fbe3bb3a4ef051e827.jpg

Will report back if this one has a premature death but so far the pump seems to be happy with its new impeller.

Excellent tech, thank you!

So, you ordered a -0001 for salt water? Was a fresh water model unavailable, or did you need the salt water rating?

Hopefully this helps others too. Ordered the 0001 for salt water as It’s what was available on eBay. Plus the seller was nice enough to answer my questions. The green one on Amazon is the 0003 freshwater OEM version which should be back in stock soon for around $20. Will also note the Amazon reviews say the green version seems to last longer. Will try that one next time.

The string trimmer spool assembly is the only Milwaukee product I have ever purchased or used that I felt was just sub-par. Overall - plenty of power and good ergonomics but it constantly jams. Even with Milwaukee branded braided line - the upper spool consistently jams up and the string breaks off b/c it will not advance. All instructions followed. Seems to be a common problem among users. I suppose I can adapt the Echo 400 head - which others have done and seem to like.

Hmm, strange, I have not had mine jam up at all. I don't think the head is particularly wonderful but it does seem to work just fine for me. I'm using the gen 1 non-quick lock version. I've even used non-Milwaukee line. Which one do you have?

That's not good to hear... We have been considering getting the M18 string trimmer to replace our 40V B&D one that the spool constantly jams on.

One thing that's held me back from purchasing is trying to decide on the fixed one or the modular version. I'm never going to use it as a pole saw or edger but I seem to find more deals on the modular version. Are there any downsides to it over the fixed if you're just using it to trim? I guess I shouldn't say never, maybe a pole saw would be handy. I have a dead tree out front that has to come down.

I'm going on two years using the quik-lok version of the M18 trimmer and have not had it jam once on me. I don't think it matters, but I've always used Milwaukee 0.095 line.

Even with Milwaukee branded braided line - the upper spool consistently jams up and the string breaks off b/c it will not advance. All instructions followed. Seems to be a common problem among users. I suppose I can adapt the Echo 400 head - which others have done and seem to like.

Switching lines helped me a lot, but I expect I might be looking for alternative heads. I'm otherwise very happy with the rest of tool.

It’s a little loud, but works well. I leave mine in the truck. Very handy for the trailer tires. I would recommend pumping 1-2 psi higher then you want because you do loose some unscrewing it from the stem. Wish they mad a quick connect for it.

I purchased a two pack of pen lights on black friday and not one but both pen light caps broke. I was very disappointed in the quality. I contacted Milwaukee (if they would have told me to send it in, i would have thrown them out), they asked for pictures so i sent them and they will send me replacements. Im still surprised how terrible the quality these milwaukee lights are. I do use them all day everyday, but my streamlight upheld the abuse and is still kicking (except for once when the known switch issue occurred). I generally love milwaukee, but this is just straight up not cool

I have both versions of Milwaukee String Trimmers, and tested them side by side. The Power Head Version has noticeable more vibration than the fixed staft version, and is also heavier.

Will the inflator kit do Schrader as well as Presta? My girlfriend's new bike is Presta and I know my air chuck for my compressor will only do Schrader valves.

The Milwaukee big impact is pretty amazing.

Car Ninja breaks two breaker bars before resorting to the Milwaukee. Here he is getting started. You can skip to 6:30 if you want to see the butter:
