Picked up the 3-drawer Packout. Plan to mount it in the back area of the extended cab. The $25 off coupon helped nicely for the addiction expense. Definitely helps with organizing my tools 097FC4E5-9162-4D4A-91EF-CDBF59F86321.jpeg

Very nice. I have a 3 drawer packout along with a packout 2 shelf wall mount I have not had the time to put up in my garage. Looking forward to having the drawers mounted up to store various things.

Hmm, I still hadn't gotten my hands on the current hatchet and now they have a new one. It looks like the same exact tool with a slightly modified case, bigger bucking spikes and a 2" longer chain. I wonder if there is any difference in the motor itself?

The Hole Hawg was a POS. Saved money by getting it used of Ebay. Broke just out of warranty. Lesson learned.

This thing is a beast. A petite 16 lbs. A little hard to one hand. Got it new. Been hogging holes in double LVL. I’m using the stink out of it while it‘s under warranty.

The first Hatchet was 6" and M12. The new one is M18 and 8".

Actually I guess it is a 2" longer bar, not a 2" longer chain? That would make the chain 4" longer?

Also I want a hole hog just because but I haven't bought one yet since I have no legitimate use for one.

Similar situation here - I worked the wee out of the corded one and no signs of slowing down after 10's of hours of use...

M18 seems like a better application for something like a hatchet IMHO. Along the lines that the M12 hackzalls didn't have enough balls.

Looks like my procrastination paid off? Only need to wait 2 more years until the M18 hatchet goes on sale now...

So I finally jumped on the Milwaukee M18 platform. Replaced my two least-favorite Bosch tools (6.5" circular saw and reciprocating saw) with Fuel versions. Now I'm looking at the Fuel impact driver.

Can anyone tell me what is considered a hot price for the CP3.0 M18 batteries? And where is the best source?

I can't find CP3.0 batteries anywhere for less than about $65 each, which is more than double the $10/Ah that I'm used to paying for other brands that use 21700 cells (e.g., Bosch). Is this just the cost of the red Kool-Aid or are the CPs available for more reasonable prices?

I love those CP3.0 batteries for drills/drivers. The best price I've ever got on them is around Christmas time from home depot. They sell a 2 pack for 100 bucks. I'm sure there are better deals out there on those but I haven't come across them.

Anyone know where to find just the non-adjustable sawzall blade case? The one that fits 9" blades.

I'm not really interested in the non-carbide tipped blades that they're bundled with.

Needed some new batteries for the compact m18 impact I picked up so I hit up northern tools for the two pack of HO CP3.0 they had in stock and listed for $179 on the website. Went to the store and they rang up at $119 with no sale signs/discounts or advertising 🥳PXL_20220813_185023389~2.jpgmarkup_975.png

$20 an amp hour sounds like the going rate these days for 3.0's.

I am still trying to justify them. 5.0's can be had at $10 an amp hour and anything that requires a high output seems to need a 6.0 and above to keep up with consumption. Granted the 3.0's are more compact and maybe they weigh slightly less than 5.0s?

Pruner? Now that's something I could use. Wish the body of it was smaller, though.

Mike
yea that has some girth. A long head would be nice to get deep in the prickly bushes as I tend to use pruners on mostly prickly stuff.

Seems like it would be a good for the in between stuff that's too small for a hatchet, but too big for the hedge trimmers.

Found it on eBay. 48-55-0185, double check the pics before purchasing as some sell the adjustable case with that number.

Sorry I was going off the pricing you got. Looks like if you went to Home Depot today it is $30 so in some ways you got a deal. Think part of the issue is these batteries are almost never sold in the package deals. Basically you can get a 6.0 for the same price in a package deal.

edit: was just checking out Acme and looks like they have a 20% off promotion. This gets it to around $23, so you still got a deal.

When I cut trees, everything gets burned.

I start by pruning the branches. Anything in the 1-3 inch range gets cut as kindling. Everything larger gets split (if needed) and burned in the woodstove. Anything smaller than 1 inch gets burned in the outdoor fire pit.

I sometimes miss living in the Northeast. Every now and then we get the fire pit going, but most of my activities involve cutting/chipping things down to size to fit in the green bin. Probably need to invest in more Milwaukee one handed OPE other than the m18 hackzall I have.

appreciate the response (y) thought maybe i missed a deal that was out there i didnt see. i prefer to purchase my milwaukee tools thru authorized dealers for the warranty so $180 was going rate that i saw. the surprise $60 discount was an added bonus. EDIT: missed the comment about getting a single 6.0 for the same price of the 2 pack....because that makes total sense slapping on to a "compact" impact :ROFLMAO:

You can get 2 6.0's for $120 @ $10 an amp hour on the package deals, but I hear you something smaller is better on the compact impact. Milwaukee really makes us pay up.

Instead of the pruner, looks like I really want the pole lopper Ryobi makes (of course).

Also noticing that the M18 dual battery shop vacs are coming into inventory Sept 14th. Thinking I might have to sell off one of my plugin shop vacs to make room for one.

The best pruning tool would be one that could be used as a handheld, or attached to a pole (and controlled from the grip, of course).

All this talk about CP3.0 batteries and then I ran into this at HD today. It looks like this deal just started: two CP3.0 batteries for $119. Maybe that's why Northern Tool had the same deal going on yesterday? I still think it is kind of a ripoff compared to other brands, even at the sale price :ROFLMAO:

Looks like HD is starting to run some promos of the lawnmower already by combining with other OPE. Granted the deals aren't so good yet. Thinking we just have to be patient.

The surge drivers are not as powerful as the mechanical ones if I recall correctly. The big deal with the surge drivers is how much quieter they are over a traditional mechanical impact. Personally I wouldn't trade my surge for a mechanical one unless I had a job that needs the extra oomph. If I needed more oomph, I'd go to a full on for reals impact wrench instead of an impact driver/drill unit. My gen 2 M12 drill/driver set have been able to (barely) do everything I've asked them to. I've got M18 kit for when I need a bigger/bader mama jama.

In short, yes if you want the higher power, no if you care about how loud the thing is.

I’ve been a Dewalt guy for a while since my dad was a woodworker. I picked up the M12 tools to have something smaller than the 20V stuff. Decided to go ahead and make the jump over to M18 as well. Slowly selling off my Dewalt stuff now. Totally worth it.E48BA22F-AFCB-4DD7-81C0-EAA56C0D32CB.jpeg

Anyone have the latest M12 impact driver yet? Worth a few bucks more over the Surge?

Wouldn't be surprised if the Surge will eventually be more expensive than the new M12 impact. Usually pricing comes down particularly on the m12 Fuel "regular" Impact to less than $100. Would be patient and wait if you can.

I think Rusty67 is saying you need both. I would wholeheartedly agree. If you have to prioritize surge is what I reach for first when driving screws into wood. The regular impact stays on my cart for auto/mechanical type things.

Welcome to team red! The M12 lineup is definitely where Milwaukee is winning the yellow vs red war. Every now and then we do wish something made in green (Ryobi) is made in red... but life isn't perfect.

Absolutely, the M12 line is destroying Dewalt for the 12v stuff, however, especially regarding the impacts and ratchets. I also think the M18 impact options are way better than Dewalt too. That’s what really convinced me to jump over to M18, I used my buddy’s 2767 and compared it to my Dewalt DCF899 and it was night and day.

Careful, 12 volt ratchets and impact wrenches is one area where Dewalt now objectively outperforms the m12 line. In fact the same is now true with the latest generation 18/20 volt line as well.

These are all recent developments and obviously there are preferences with regards to specifics about the tools, and Milwaukee probably leads the segment in terms of adoption, but in terms of pure specs, Dewalt has taken the lead.

For me, it's all the other m12 tools that makes the line compelling.

So it’s less for outright perfomance, and more for what’s available and where they fit and I think a lot of that has to do with battery size and placement. Especially for me working on cars, the M12 stubby 3/8 impact and 3/8 ratchet have the power and ergonomics I need in a size that fits where I need it to fit.

I agree with you regarding the battery placement and ergonomics, but when you say things like Milwaukee is "destroying" Dewalt, that sends a different message.

I can understand that but Id argue that the ergonomics and battery placement has as much to do with destroying Dewalt as outright performance. It’s not just the one thing that makes it better than the other.
