In two weeks I will be moving from NYC to Venice Beach, CA. Along with my girlfriend, dog, and a ton of personal belongings will come my 1991 911 Turbo, 1990 Audi Coupe Quattro and a garage full of tools. With plans of making our place in California home for at least three years, I plan to properly set up the garage as workshop.

My previous garage in Queens, NY was always a bit of a mess and quite impossible to work in. I shared the two-car garage with a friend, but since it only had a 1 car door, it was always a pain to move the cars around. That said I am pretty excited about the new spot we are moving into and have already started planning what to do.

I've dubbed this project thread the modular garage since it's not the biggest space, I plan to build a garage that folds out when I pull the cars out. Plus, since this is only a rental, I do not plan to build anything here that is built in. Everything will be designed around being modular.

Anyway, here's a pic of the place to get started.

It looks like a decent sized space. I'll be interested in seeing your "modular" design. Sounds interesting.

19x19 is going to be a little cramped if you plan to park both cars inside. A collapsable bench and some high shelves or cabinets seem to be obvious choices. Search for the 12-guage garage thread here on GJ for some excellent ideas.

And since you are in SoCal you could always park the Audi outside. :shocking:

Do you two plan to drive across country? That will be one memorable trip!

I have two similar sized cars and a 22x22 space that I wish were a little bigger. I look forward to following your thread!

Its great that the walls are unfinished- allows you to add insulation or electrical easily if you want to.

The 965 is a pretty cool car.

Once you get moved in, you should bring the Porsche out to Willow Springs.

Yeah, I am sure I will. The 965 is still pretty new to me, I bought it early this year and just haven't been home enough to drive it (I work for a WRC team).

Jack, your garage has been a huge inspiration. Expect to see some copycat items showing up in my space.
